“Momma, can I play outside now?” My younger brother Lenox asked in a whiney voice.
“Did you get the loaf of bread from the market like I asked?” My mom raised her eyebrow.
“Oh… Yeah I did, lemme just… I'll be right back!” He quickly scooted out of the room just quick enough that my mom didn't smack the back of his head.
“He better not eat any on the way home. That's all we have for a week, right?” I asked the rather peeved looking woman.
“For bread, yes. But I bought some cheese earlier this morning. That should last for at least two weeks.” My face lit up at the word “cheese”. Anything that has to do with decent food, you know I'll be involved. “Now, girls, run along and play outside. You've done your chores for the day.”

“So what do you wanna do?” I asked looking at Fidan. We'd been sitting in the grass for ten minutes and the silence became unbearable.
“I think I'm going to see what Ashley is up to.” She said as she lifted herself from our grassy, green blanket.
“Ashley? You mean that little friend of yours? I thought you guys were having a fight.” I asked her with pleading eyes that said “Please don't go; I will die of boredom”.
It didn't affect her at all and she started walking away saying, “Yeah, well, we're friends again.” I rolled my eyes at the back of her head. Why do kids have to be so difficult?
I laid back down into our uncut grass lawn and closed my eyes. When I'm bored I just sit back and listen. For quite a few minutes of listening to my surroundings, there was this odd bird call coming from my tree. Whatever bird that is, doesn't sound too happy. As it kept making that horrible screeching noise, I couldn't focus on anything else so I decided to investigate.
As I crept carefully towards the tree as not to scare it, it stopped. It was so sudden that it must have been caused by my approaching closer. “Don't mind me, little birdie, I'm just here to check up on you…” I said in my head. As I stayed as still as I could for about 3 minutes, I decided it must have flown away. I started walking normally towards it when there it was. An old, greying tabby cat. She had a soft black color with flecks of white through her coat, especially around the snout area. She wasn't wearing a collar so I figured it was a stray.
“Hello.” I said slightly dazed and surprised that a cat could make such an… Interesting noise. And yes, I figured out the cat was the source of the disturbing screech. As it trotted away from me, probably as dazed as I am, I whispered, “Goodbye”.
