Adrenalin had fueled Mel, all the way to the small dark island in the distance. Her brother had once told her that in extreme cases the decisions you make automatically can turn out better then taking the time to think properly. She wasn't so sure about that this morning but at the time the tiny ink stained in the distance had seemed like the perfect place to lay low until the damage from the bloodbath subsided a bit.
Upon arriving on the shore she had found a new injury, a crossbow bolt sticking out of her bicep. She had wanted nothing more then to scream out as the act of noticing it had sent the pain to her brain. She may have been on camera though and she would have to play it tough, show everyone how she got that nine. She had grinned at the thing sticking out of her arm and before she lost her nerve yanked it out.
Before the black dots flooding her vision had taken over her sight she waved the bolt at the sky.
"Got myself a bolt" she said.
She clutched the bleeding wound with her left arm only to have it scream in protest. It looked like it had been broken somewhere between her elbow and wrist. Mel had wished she had taken that first aid station, but struggled on. She had moved away from the beach, just in case one of her attackers had decided to follow her.
In the time it had taken to get what Mel considered a safe distance away she was completely covered in the black dust covering the island. Mel took off her life vest to make sure both it and her got fully covered in it. The perfect camouflage.
Laying down on her stomach staring out at the water there was no discerning her from the rest of the island. She stayed this way until the anthem. In that time she had seen a group of tributes with a raft make there way to the island next to hers. She had also had a perfect view of the sinking of the cornucopia along with it's island. She added both these pieces of information to her memory and began adjusting her plans accordingly. She also did some brainstorming as to what the gamemakers might have in store for her.
She had been brought out of her thoughts only by the playing of the anthem. Rolling over on her back, this had been the moment when she had regretted learning the names of all the tributes. Alba, Estrella, Hilderic, and Papero. Only four bloodbath deaths, tomorrow would not be a good day.
She had drifted off to sleep like that, clutching the bolt in her hand, her bow and arrows under her painful left arm, the rope crossed over her chest going from her right shoulder to her left hip. for comfort she used her life vest as a pillow.
She woke up before dawn, constantly aware of the tributes with the raft inhabiting the island next to her. The hard marble ground had leached away most her warmth away, not that she really cared in this sweltering temperature. She wanted to move on right away and put some distance between her and the group nearby but had to make sure she didn't overlook anything on this tiny island.
She started with the plant life, which was all as dark as the ground. She found some berries nearby and squished them in her hands. The insides where as dark as the outside and these had defiantly not been covered as edible when she trained. She would go so far at to say they were deadly, which brought a smile to her lips.
She stripped the bush of it's deadly fruit and piled them into the bottom of her quiver of arrows crushing and cutting them with the points of her arrows. Now confident that she now carriedeight poison arrows, she moved on to explore the island for anything else that might be useful.
