Thump. My heart beats heavily against my ribs. Thump. The pulse travels to my throat, and I swear I may dispose of it through puking. Thump. Perhaps that may be a good thing though, to truly be heartless. Isn’t that what Edyn desired from me? To be even colder then she is? Fear ruptures my own confidence in myself; but I’m fully aware that I must rid of that burdensome feeling, just as Edyn has rid of us. Nails dig into my palm, while frustrated breathing continues to seep from my nose as if I were a Mutt slapped into the Arena from the Capitol.
‘I will not be Edyn,’ replays in my head to supply annoyance and determination. Her guidance would have been preferred, but I will convince myself that it is not needed. Already I sit at the head of the room, in the divine handcrafted chair that provides as the only luxurious furniture in this home. If she belonged here, she wouldn’t have ran off. But damn did she decide to leave me in charge at the worst situation.
It’s the blonde Female, whom strongly stands a couple paces ahead, which concerns me the most. Five others are scattered behind her, making it evident over the two leaders within this room. The unmanageable aspect is the breathtaking features that grace her. The friends enforcing her presence pertain no threat; they can be dealt with. Already a strong impression radiates from her though, immediately informing me of the challenge that has most certainly arrived...and how I must come off just as powerful.
This is my Foster Home. Edyn may have welcomed in newcomers with open arms, but I will not be her. How would she deal with a group of six upper-class kids anyways? Because hopefully she’ll approve of my tactics. “Greetings.” My tone is stern, and my eyes remain on their Leader. Why does she have to be such eye-candy? “Please, don’t get comfortable.” A risk such as her cannot, and will not, be staying.
Slowly her seductive stroll is breaching my way, and I regain the rhythm of my heart once more. Instantly my hand flies up to gesture to the others that she is no hazard. Cute little rich girl like her, now a Foster with only a few friends and no family, I can easily handle her. A coy grin laces my lips as I watch her fist land on top of my own hand, her minty breath swirling about my vision.
“Oh believe me we don’t plan on it, no matter how much you want me to.” Now why the hell would I want that? Either way her voice is like cinnamon, with a tasty flavor and a bitter sensation.
From the corner of my eye I spot Edyn’s Adviser, questioning me if she should step in simply by her stare. Subtly my head declines any offer of assistance. Surely I must avoid being undermined on my first day of being in charge, but I also need to establish my new title. “Well fantastic then, at least we can agree on something.” My own voice twists and intertwines with satisfaction and sarcasm. Unfortunately, it’s not as though they could choose to be reassigned to another foster house. Hopefully with this sort of compliance though, the issues won’t be as extreme as I predicted.
Except then our Foster Parents rejoin. “We’ve arranged your new room assignments.” Ms. Helena announces, while her eyes unnervingly rest upon my own. Her focus always did fall towards Edyn the majority of the time. Is this how it felt? Because it seems as though she’s internally questioning whether I’ll be able to fill my older Sister’s shoes, rather then fearing what we were going to argue against next as she did in the past. “Eryn…” And here it goes.
“Since Edyn has left, you’ll be sharing a room with Rayne.” Her name wasn’t told to me until now, but I know exactly whom it is. But for now my eyes bore into Ms. Helena, refusing to accept this news. What would Edyn say? We were never put into a position like this. I wasn’t given the chance to learn from her for a situation such as this. Then I remember; I will not be like her.
My expression vividly illustrates my distaste for this decision. “I will not share a room with her.” My words come out harsh and to the point, completely ignoring the other feelings Rayne provided.
