Panetta awoke with a yawn, stretching her arms upward. She slowly put her feet on the cold wood of her attic room and stood up. She walked into the washing room, which was basically a corner of her room with a hose, and washed herself with the freezing cold water. Panetta dried herself with a small towel and dressed in her usual outfit; a t-shirt, jeans, no shoes. She ran her fingers through her messy brown hair and walked downstairs. Lucky for her, her uncle wasn't awake yet. She took a slice of bread from the food cabinet and ran out the door onto the streets.
Panetta smiled as her hair flowed in the wind. She lived in the part of town where the air was fresher and there weren't as many factories. She came to a halt when she came to her school and sighed, holding her breath as to not smell the terrible stench in the air. Panetta walked inside, closing the door softly behind her. She put on her tough face and marched into her classroom, slumping into her seat right as the bell rang. The 12-year-old leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, not even paying attention to the lesson being presented until the teacher called out her name.
Panetta opened one eye and closed it again, not even acknowledging the teacher's presence at her desk. She felt a stinging pain in her arm as her teacher smacked her arm with a ruler and opened her eyes, putting her chair back on the ground and pretending to pay attention.
