Thinking Writing Says Hears Lyrics
Secrets were meant to be hidden. Words and ideas held away from the general people to think about it. The money saved up from multiple sources. The room felt empty to the man who had the plan and was finally going through with his plan. The daredevil had spent years in that room. Memories of times when the man almost cracked his head open and broken bones. The little memories were the best, but the house had a haunting feel to it. The dinners with Jabber Jay always burned into the man's head. Memories of Storm Jay sitting by a window reading a book that the daredevil wouldn't understand at all. Memories of Fawn wrapping up his wounds. Memories of Stellar getting scolded by Ma for not practicing his skills with numbers. Memories of Wess making his organized schedules. Memories of Red being innocent. Memories of Mist and him going on adventures. Memories of Violet being the perfect youngest sibling. All of those memories were just that, memories.
The house felt empty. Jabber was the first one to leave. No one expected it. One day he was there and the next the boy was reaped for the Hunger Games. Mick had scolded himself for not jumping in and saving his cousin who was pretty much a brother to him. Jabber had passed away just days later. After that tragedy, another decided to take root. Storm was the next one to leave. A boy who had the biggest imagination. A boy who had the smarts to do anything he wanted. The boy was reaped, taken from their hands. The shadows of the arena swallowing him up and spitting him out like garbage. Storm was dead. Mick had been heartbroken by that tragedy. Mick wanted to hide away from the world, but couldn't. If he hid, Fawn would have surely been the next one to be a tragedy.
The room was empty. Everything had been taken out of it. Beds and furniture were all gone. Disappearing like a magic act. All that was left was an empty room full of broken memories. Memories that made Mick want to crash down like an avalanche. Hide himself away in a corner and never to be seen again, but there's always a calm after the storm. Many of the siblings survived the reapings. Wess, Stellar, and Fawn. Most of them had moved out, taking their items and getting a house of their own. One by one they left. Wess and Stellar. Next was himself. Items already out of the house. A slow, but steady moving out. Money to buy a new house had came sooner than he had thought. Even having extra for himself.
The new place was small, but homey. A place of his own where he could set the rules, where he could live and call his own. A place that had taken Mick years to get, but finally it was his own. Ma and Pa had cried as Mick had told them his plans. Ma had given him a hug and Pa had cried a little bit which was unusual for him. Everything was going perfectly. The house had been so beautiful. Mick loved the place with all of his heart.
Setting up the place was easy. Mick had bought some furniture with the extra money. The living room had been set up in a way that was rather open, giving more of an open atmosphere to the place. The bathroom was perfect. His room had been set up in a way that he wanted it to be. The kitchen held supplies that Mick could use to cook. It was his home, yet something was missing. A loneliness set itself up and swallowed Mick up. Depression was kicking in and Mick just felt like crying when he was home all night. A broken man living in the dark and lonely house. The memories haunting him in his sleep. Dreams turn into nightmares. Sleep soon becomes nonexistent. A few days of staying awake and feeling rather down is when Mick does it.
Money saved up for a special day. Everything prepared for the day. A bed set in the extra room. People came in to investigate him first before anything. The house was set perfectly for the secret that Mick was keeping. The investigators left with only a few words from their lips, "It looks good, Mr. Jay." Mick only smiled as he let them out. Everything was running smoothly. His heartbeat increasing rapidly. A new excitement had hit Mick hard in the stomach. Self consciousness had hit him hard already. The house was set up and Mick was ready to get the next leg in his life going.
One thing he needed to do that was left was get a job. It was tough work looking around, but Mick eventually found one as a factory worker. It was rather dull, but it allowed Mick to make some money to live off of. The job kept giving him a steady amount of money. Enough for himself and another. Mick felt giddy in a way. The house was ready, the money was there, and Mick was ready to become the one thing he wanted to be the most. A father. A father who his kids would look up to in a way that made Mick seem like a great role model. A father who was there for his kids in all situations. Mick wanted to be the greatest father he could be.
The orphanage felt dark. A place for children who had lost it all. Mick hated it. If he could, he would have taken all of the children, but he decided already. It had only taken him a little bit to decide his child. A twelve year old girl whose parents had passed away when she was three. The girl was a very quiet and shy kid, yet held a certain fire to her. She reminded Mick of Red the most. His brother who had been a mess, but at the same time, was one of the best brothers Mick had. The girl had a bit of Storm in her too. Books seemed to be her thing. The girl read and read all that she could. Mick had bought books weeks ago for the girl. Mick was waiting in the office as the orphanage workers went to get her.
A shout could be heard. "NO! You can't take me away from him." The voice was easy for Mick to recognize. It was his kid. His kid was upset. Mick felt his heart sink. The girl didn't want to go with him. Mick was an awful man to her. A man who was a stranger. A man who she thought was taking him away. Mick felt tears come to his eyes, but instantly came out of the room and around the corner. The scene was awful in front of him. The orphanage worker held his daughter, pulling her away from a boy. The boy was crying. His daughter screamed out. "I want my twin. I can't just leave him!" Mick felt his heart rush. His daughter had a twin. Twins should never be separated. Mick had learned this from Mist and Storm. The two some times were inseparable and sometimes they were separated. Mick could remember when they were just babies, ma used to keep them together. It was adorable.
Mick broke free from his memories. His voice was loud and determined. "Excuse me!" The orphanage workers turned to Mick. Mick felt his heartbeat faster. His kids were standing right there. A smile forms on his face. His kids. "I'm gonna be adopting both of them." The twins looked at each other and then to Mick. A smile filled both of their faces. His daughter was so beautiful. His son was so handsome. Mick felt tears come to his face. The twins quickly hug their new father, accepting him into their life. The orphanage worker just walks past them as Mick follows with his children close by. A smile fills all of their faces. The paperwork was easy, until the names came up. The two twins had no names. It was his job to name them. Mick thought it was weird how two twelve year olds didn't have a name, but Mick just ignored it. If the twins wanted to tell him, they would have told him.
The orphanage worker just sat waiting as Mick contemplated names for the two. A name popped up for the girl. She reminded him of Red, so he might as well relate it to that. Mick smiled and said, "My daughter's name shall be Ruby Jay." Mick looked to his daughter who smiled at him and said, "I like it! I sound cool!" Mick just chuckled at her. Ideas for the boy were a bit harder. Mick had no idea about his personality. His brother Storm was a big part of his life. Since Storm and Red got along so well, it gave Mick an idea. Mick went with the idea, hoping that somewhere in some afterlife, Storm was proud. The name came out fast, faster than Mick expected. "My son's name will be Avalanche Jay." The boy smiled at the name and the paper work was done.
Mick had bought an extra bed that day. The two kids kept running around happily with Mick. Mick just watched them with love. They were his kids and only his. Avalanche and Ruby ran up to Mick, a shrill in their voices as they screamed, "MICK! MICK! Can we go get Ice cream please!" Mick just smiled and spoke softly, "Yes! Let's go get you both ice cream." The twins both grab Mick's hand. The sun was still out and it was gonna be a long day full of getting to know his kids, but the daredevil was excited. Memories may haunt him, but new ones would be in store. There are some surprises that are worth waiting for.
