Never in my entire life have I felt so hopeless. I tried volunteering for my brother. I love my brother, and I would die for him, but they wouldn't let me. They held me back. Kept me from going up. Tears run down my face as I plop myself down in one of the chairs in Kirito's house. Nothing makes sense anymore. I promised Iain he would be safe. I promised him nothing would happen to him. I lied to my brother, and I failed to protect him. We were supposed to have plant soup tonight. Iain was supposed to create it, and I cooked a cherry pie for him. At least he got a piece before he was sent to the Capitol. Iain I hope you can forgive me my brother. I hope you forgive me. Wiping the tears away, k slam my good hand into the table beside me. Glasses and cups temporarily jump into the air before landing with a thud back on the table. I don't want to ever think of plants again. Never want to have plant soup. Anything anymore. If my brother dies in the games, I'll be joining him. I remember Ikaia watching Kirito journey through the arena. I know how painful it was for him. But I don't know what to think anymore. All my hope is lost. I'm not giving up on my brother, but I know his odds aren't good. Lifting a glass from the table, I smash it against the ground. My world collapsed, and I'm spiraling downhill. Nothing makes sense. Nothing will change what happened. My word isn't any good anymore. Falling towards the floor, I bring my hands to my head as I become a sobbing mess. And at this point I don't care who sees me.

His heart ached. An endless fire soared through his veins as the world ceased to exist for only a moment. Iain has charged him, left him with his last will in case he fell in the games. But right now wasn't the time to think about it. Ikaia remembered the pain and agony he felt the moment Kirito's name was called. He remembered the amount of pain he felt when the peacekeepers ripped him from the arms of his twin as the door slammed shut in front of him. Not once did he imagine he would feel the pain once more. Sweet, innocent Iain shattered a broken heart into thousands of tiny shards over and over. Ikaia was used to pain, and to the feelings of hopelessness, but this one was different. He knew President Snow had set out to make an example of district eleven, yet using his cousin, and a thirteen year old girl was one of the worst possible ways of doing so. In the eyes of the Capitol Iain and Carrita meant nothing. Their lives thrown away as a stupid sacrifice; however, Snow had another thing coming. Sighing to himself, Ikaia walked through the door to the victor's house. His heart leaped into his throat the moment he saw his cousin curled in a ball on the shards of glass spread across the floor. A lump formed in the back of his throat. The thundering of his heart roared through his ears as he slowly made his way over towards Tobias. If he learned one thing from Kirito, it was to be calm and gentle. Sitting down beside him, Ikaia placed a hand on Tobias' back. "Shh. Shh. I'm right here Tobias. I'm right here, and I promise to never leave you."

Ikaia. I feel his hand on my back before the words fall from his lips. Ikaia is one person who can understand the pain. He watched Kirito in the games. Fighting relentlessly. At one point I thought Kirito was going to die. I thought he wouldn't survive, but here he is today. Alive and escorting my brother to the Capitol. I know Iain isn't a fighter. I know he wouldn't ever hurt anything, but I have to believe he can survive. I have to believe he can make it back alive despite the horrible odds. It wouldn't surprise me if President Snow request the game makers to have his plate explode before the games even begin. It's a horrible thought. One that I quickly shake out of my mind. I don't want to watch Iain in the games. I don't want to watch him die. He can still live. If Kirito can do it, my brother can do it too. I have to hold onto the hope. I have to stay strong. But I'm not strong. I'm broken. A man who can't even think anymore. I love Iain. I love my brother more than anything in the world. And the way it all changed so fast makes it a horrible situation. I should be at the Capitol. Not Iain. Me. Slamming my fist into the ground, I try to stop the tears from falling. I try to pull myself together. Not for Ikaia. Not for me. But for Iain. If he saw me right now, I'm sure he wouldn't be proud. "Ikaia, what's the point of trying? How did you do it? How did you survive watching Kirito in the games? How?" I ask as I turn my gaze towards him showing the amount of tears falling down my face. "I can't even stand to think I won't get to say goodnight to him tonight. I can't tuck him in. Nothing." My heart breaks into tiny pieces as I sob.

Seeing Tobias break down destroyed Ikaia from the inside out. A storm raged throughout his entire body. Waves of agony devoured his soul threatening to break the tiny boy in half as he stared blankly at the grey floor. Ikaia wasn't the best at helping people because his entire life was spent gathering the plants while Kirito did the rest. Ikaia worked behind the scenes always making sure everything was set perfectly before his twin went to work, but right now his twin wasn't here to save him. Ikaia was alone trapped in a building with a broken man carrying the weight of the world. Yet reality slapped him across the face the moment Tobias turned to face him. Red stained eyes. Red, puffy cheeks. Tears slid down his face rapidly, yet the entire moment was lost the moment Tobias spoke. Ikaia had given up hope the moment Kirito's name was called for the reaping a couple years ago. He felt the agony. The pain. The sorrow as his body fought within himself doing everything in its path to find the will to live. But not once did he ever question himself trying to find the point in trying. Tobias was broken. Shattered into millions of pieces as he prepared for the worst journey of his entire life, and Ikaia wouldn't leave his side. Every second Tobias was awake, Ikaia would stand beside him keeping him company because he needed it when Kirito was in the games, but nobody was there to help him. Sighing, Ikaia took a deep breath allowing the air to fill his body. But when he exhaled, the words flowed freely. "I kept hope, Tobias. Even in the darkest of nights I found something to hold on to. It was hard lying in bed without him. It was the hardest moment of my life, but I couldn't give up. Kirito would've wanted me to remain strong." Ikaia paused for only a moment allowing silence to surround him. "And Iain would want the same from you, Tobias. You can't give up. As long as he's breathing and has a pulse, there's always a chance."

Silence fill the air around me. Silence tears my world apart. Silence is deadly, but the moment the silence runs through me, I watch as Ikaia tries to find the words to say. I don't know what he's capable of doing anymore because nothing will ever make this any better. I remember the first time ever holding Iain in my arms after his birth. I remember the joy I felt as he smiled at me. I have loved him from the time he made his entrance into the world, and I will continue to love him for the rest of my life. Had I known his fate rested in the hands of the Capitol, I would've done more to save him. Ikaia talks about keeping hope. Even in the dark hours he found something to hold on to. And he acknowledged it was hard to sleep. That it was hard to lie in bed knowing his brother was fighting in the games. And he states it was the hardest moment of his life, but he never gave up. I know Ikaia would've killed himself had Kirito died in the games. I saw him tie the noose to that tree about halfway through. Ikaia is strong. He's always been strong having to live through the life he's been given. "And Iain would want the same from you, Tobias. You can't give up. As long as he's still breathing and has a pulse, there's always a chance." It's true. Those words. As long as he's breathing, as long as his heart is still beating, Iain can find the strength inside to keep going. But it never changes anything right now. Iain is so young. So fragile. He walks with a limp, but he's one of the strongest people I know because he's never let that hold him back. "Ikaia, don't leave me. Please stay with me. I wish I would've been there for you, and I'm sorry. But please don't let me face this alone."

A fire grew inside him spreading rapidly through his veins scorching every innocent fiber in the process. Snow was quickly destroying the innocent left inside. Devouring the heart of an honest person until nothing was left but a hollow shell of a puppet controlled by the Capitol. Ikaia was his own being. Someone who wanted to live his own life with Kirito by his side, but the games happened. The games ruined the relationship. Shattering the bond the twins formed until nothing remained, yet Ikaia promised Iain he wouldn't leave Kirito ever again, and that was one promise he planned on keeping along with the promise of never leaving Tobias behind. Watching the emotions overtake his cousin was painful. The agony. The pain. Everything, but it wouldn't compare to the upcoming days of watching Iain as the tributes tried to slaughter him. Iain wasn't a murderer, and Ikaia knew that, yet he held onto the hope that somehow Iain would survive. "Ikaia, don't leave me. Please stay with me. I wish I would've been there for you, and I'm sorry. But please don't let me face this alone." Hearing Tobias beg shattered what remained inside him. Ikaia felt his heart plummet further and further into the pits of his stomach with every passing breath especially when Tobias apologized for not being there when Kirito journeyed through the games. It tore him apart. Slaughtering his soul as he stared into the eyes of Tobias. For the first time since he entered the house, Ikaia found himself at a loss of words because right now Tobias shouldn't apologize for not being around, Ikaia should apologize for not saving his brother. But in a split second, he caught himself wavering as his body shook in fear. A brigade of tears threaten to fall down his face, but somehow Ikaia managed to stop them. His mind raced, and his heart pranced inside his chest as he tried to find the proper words to say. Inhaling sharply, he allowed himself a moment to think. To break free from the grasp the puppet master had on him as the words finally fell in place. "Tobias, I'll always be here. I'm not going to leave you alone. I promise. I promise I'll always be here. No matter what."

I won't ever forgive myself for not saving my brother. Iain trusted me. I promised him I would save him no matter what. I promised I wouldn't leave him behind. From the moment we made the mess in the kitchen, I swore I wouldn't let anything happen to him, but I have failed him in so many ways. I should've tried harder to volunteer for him. I should've pushed forward fighting against the peacekeepers because I know they heard me. Iain heard me, and he was standing far away from me. I don't understand why they wouldn't let me. I don't get it. Snow wants to set an example. I tell myself over and over again as anger slowly creeps through my veins. Snow wants him dead to punish the victors. But he's not only punishing them. President Snow has punished me along with the rest of my family. Hearing Ikaia promise to stay with me no matter what makes me feel better, but it can't replace the endless amount of pain radiating from my body. All my life I've dedicated it to making sure Iain was taken care of. I gave him my food when he was still hungry. I made sure he always had enough to eat and drink. I made sure his favorite meals were always cooked when mom and dad wasn't around to cook them. I watched him grow from a toddler into a fourteen year old man. Iain grew up much faster than he should've especially now. Iain has taught me so much. He taught me that no matter what happens in life there's always something worth living for. He taught me to never underestimate people with disabilities; despite Iain's lame leg, he was always capable of growing stronger and stronger. Sure, he wasn't able to climb trees or anything, but it never stopped him from being outside playing and having fun. And now in the blink of an eye, it all has changed. Sighing quietly to myself, I wrap my arms around Ikaia before sobbing violently into his shoulder. I never wanted this to happen. I never wanted this to break away from the reality of the world. I never asked for this pain. Ikaia never asked for Kirito to journey through the games. He never asked for it. Nobody did. I can't find the words to say as the tears flow rapidly down my face. I can't find nothing to do. Nothing to make this life make sense anymore because as soon as I think I have it figured out, something changes. "Ikaia, I don't know what to do." I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do.
