Brynna (Bryn) Yates
Age 16
female
District 5
Appearance:Brynna has a soft gracefulness about her. She's not tall, at 5'4, and she's a little bit overweight. She has an hourglass figure, with wide hips and very wide shoulders. Even though most of her clothes are hand-me-downs, everything seems to look good on her. She has big feet and long fingers and unusually small ears.
She has long, lovely, brown, curly hair that hangs down her back when she lets it. It gets very bushy in humid weather and very frizzy in dry weather, and she usually pulls it back into a loose, long braid down her back,
She has plump pink lips. If she's not with friends, they are usually set into a harsh but pretty smirk. She has cool, pale blue eyes which are often narrowed. In the summer, her light brown skin is generously sprinkled with faint brown freckles. Her eyebrows slant downwards towards her eyes, giving her face an intense look even when she's feeling passive. When she's angry, they go even lower over her eyes, making her eyes appear dark, and when she's surprised or laughing, they jump high on her forehead. They're very expressive and versatile.
Though her features individually appear slightly heavy, her face as a whole has a look of delicacy to it.
Personality:
Brynna loves to have a good time and she loves the excitement of risk and danger. She is very social and extroverted, and tends to pine without her friends, and especially without her boyfriend, Jaden, who she is very dependent on. She's very reckless and careless and doesn't think about consequences, so she gets in trouble a lot. She has a weak sense of self-preservation so this doesn't bother her, especially because it means it might make her parents worry or care about her for once.
It is extremely rare for Brynna to think before speaking or acting. She's rash. Her mouth has almost no filter; she's very blunt and has offended a lot of people. She is also very street-smart, thinking excellently on her feet. This means that if she feels like insulting or snapping at someone, which she often does, whatever comes out of her mouth is likely to be sharp and true enough to sting. However, her compliments are just as unplanned and hit home just as strongly. Brynna is very open and honest.
Growing up watching the Hunger Games made Brynna desensitized to violence. She can see kids murdering each other on TV and won't even wince. Pain, violence, gore, and death don't bother her much at all-- in fact, she doesn't care much about what happens to anyone she doesn't know. She cares fiercely and intensely for her friends and family, and especially for her boyfriend Jaden. She lashes out mercilessly at anyone she thinks has bothered or hurt them, and is jealously protective of them.
This is partly because she's subconsciously terrified of being alone and un-cared for. She doesn't want anything to take her friends away from her. This is partly why being popular is so important to her, and also partly why she needs Jaden so much.
Brynna feels unnoticed and un-valued by her parents, lost among her four siblings. This heightens her need for attention and motivates her to get into trouble and act out a lot. She wonders if they really care what she does. However, this also motivates her to impress them. She has become the top student in her class, which is something that didn't come easy to her at all. Brynna never liked reading or sitting still and she's not book smart, but she works with Slytherin-like determination for her good grades, slaving over homework that she finds very, very difficult. This makes her stressed out and exhausted and touchy sometimes.
History:
Brynna grew up in a large family. She's the second youngest of five kids, and she always felt a little bit lost among all her siblings. She feels like her parents never have time for her. She used to be the baby of the family, for a good four years, and never got over having the position of the seemingly most loved and adored and worried about kid in the house, being taken from her by her now 12 year old brother James. She never was bitter towards James about being born after her, though, and adored and pampered him just as much as the rest of the family did, if not more. James used to follow her around when he was little and spend loads of time with her. he was the only boy out of the five of them and she was his favorite sister. He was very spoiled. All of this led to her being wildly protective over him. She cannot even stand to let the thought of him being reaped cross her mind.
Brynna's family was never rich or well-to-do. Her parents were unusually hard working and frugal, and it was because of them that the family always had plenty to eat. Brynna dislikes her family's way of life. She feels like her parents are never around because they only come home from work at night, and she hates how frugal they are. She never had the chance to take her eye for fashion to its full potential, because all of her clothes are hand-me-downs. She's very glad she knows how to make whatever she can look good on her, and she always liked a sort of rough-and-tough look anyway, so she pretends that her faded, holey jeans that once belonged to her older sister are supposed to look how they do.
Brynna, not artistic or good at reading, was never the type to sit still and entertain herself. She always turned to other people to spend her time with. Even before she started school, she would wander away from home and make friends with all of the kids who lived near by, spending hours at other people's houses. This was one of the rare few times when she didn't want James to follow her around. Somehow, it never resulted in her learning to keep her mouth shut when it would be best. She got into a lot of fights with the kids, but she loves the adrenaline rush that comes with pitting herself against other people and testing herself. Arguing doesn't stress her out.
As she got older and got into school, her need for attention as well as her desire to impress her parents and herself led her to work hard at becoming the "queen bee" of the school. She has a large group of friends and she really, really values them. She eventually discovered the world of dating, and was somewhat disappointed at how shallow it all seemed, because she usually was completely devoted to the relationship. And then she met Jaden, and she's been with him longer than she's been with anyone else, and she can barely believe she met such a sweetheart. Not to mention that he's impossibly good looking as well. He is a huge part of what stops her from feeling lonely and un-cared for and she is very, very dependent on him.
