I. I N T R O D U C T I O N Travelling throughout the district- the young and the old come to catch a glimpse of the spectacles that lie beyond closed tent curtains! Springing up beneath the black and purple washed sky, the circus tent shines within starlight as it appears from no where. A circus meant for all- one second it's there, when yesterday it simply was not. Citizens of the district come from near to witness the deformities, the grotesque, the entertainment all at a very low price. Through tough years of training torture, abuse, experimentation the entertainers hold cheshire smiles on their marked faces at all times. "It's fun. Join us.", they say. However, hidden down one could see the truth in their gouged out eyes, their acid and burnt faces, scar ridden flesh. 'You don't want to come to the circus.'

What you plan to do with them: Basically, like, Majestic is seen as the least deformed, but he takes grudges as deep as they come. Maybe some kind of development of anger towards the circus and failed attempts of trying to bring it down driving him deeper and deeper into a depressive state? He only wants to protect the two people he cares for in the circus, Czar and Mystic, and nothing will stop his manic attempts to get them out, even if they themselves want to stay. I feel like the deformity is large amounts of burns covering the body? Like enough to actually affect Majestic, but not enough to cripple him permanently. The burns cover parts of his face, and it's covered through makeup; he hates the idea of being covered up, a falsity of what he actually is. He does not love anyone, he just lusts (Czar), or respects or cares for (Mystic). If you need any more info, just shout ^^

Mama always did say I was her favorite.

Of course that was only after I had forced my brothers to dig their own graves in the backyard. ("Can't we stop diggin' now?") ("Why we doin' this?") I shot them with Papa's shotgun once they had dug deep enough; I made Mama fill in the holes. She whined like our pet beagle had when I lit the dog house on fire a few years ago. Quiet at first, then louder as flames caught is his fur, melted his flesh.

("The apple doesn't fall far from the tree,") they say.

("Like father, like daughter,") they say.

At least I'm not a whimpering mess like Mama. Weak, docile, frail—just a few things I will never be. I pointed the shotgun at her head that day—("Sweety, please, you've always been my favorite.")—and she begged.

"Liar."

So I sort of see her as a twisted sociopathic teenager that resembles everything that can go wrong in a teenager’s life. So she would definitely be filled of angst and sort of lost in her world. She will probably also have a childish behavior and she probably never really learned how to grow up. She would have been with the circus as far as her memory goes and that is what has driven her over the edge. She would have mixed feeling towards the circus as seeing those are where her scars and burns come from. I’d say she would have a split persona, due to her mask. The one that identifies with her clown mask, and the one she would have when the mask is off. Her on mask persona will be the more child-like persona, the one that is stuck in her own world. Her true face is when the mask is off, the murderous girl who enjoys watching other people suffer the way she used to suffer as a child. Other than that I would give her a weird obsession with balloon animals.

It took years of training. Piercing her flesh over and over again like she was a voodoo doll, and that was only part of it. Training began with the cuts - words written into her flesh with knives

They are scars. Deformities. She became a human notebook, words branded mostly into her back and her legs. She is disciplined. To deal with pain and trauma, one must learn to cope. So she did. Her focus reaches beyond comprehension. She visits other worlds with her mind, often unaware of her own surroundings as if she were hypnotizing herself.

She is the calm before the storm, and the storm itself. She will take your money and your time - hell, even your patience - but not your bullshit. The abuse doesn't mean she will be submissive. It just means she has nothing to lose if she makes anyone angry.

Mystic was a magician long before the circus found her.

As a child, all she wanted was to disappear. Her face, back and arms were covered in the red sores and craters which screamed the story of the pox she'd had as a baby. Even though the infection had long passed, people still steered well clear of her in the District, as if it was in fact the ugly that was contagious. At school, the other children painted their faces with red paint or their mothers' lipstick and dragged themselves around zombie-style until the girl ran away and hid. Hiding was always better. And so she practiced being silent and the art of misdirection - every day for years she would read all the books she could find on the Great Illusionists, the Magic Circle; picking up the small hand tricks subconsciously as she studied every method of vanishing without a trace while being there all along. However, she soon learnt that being invisible wasn't always better than letting people know you were there. The words the people called her were so much worse when they thought she was far away. The teachers at school complained that the repulsion they felt was distracting them from teaching the other students, that the girl didn't belong with normal children, that her parents, honestly, should never have let her out after the disease passed - or perhaps even shouldn't have tried so hard to save her from it.

The worst came for Mystic when she was crawling through the walls in her house. Insects and small, splintered faces never scared her - after all what could any of them do to her that was worse than what she already had? Her parents' voices were gentle in tone, but their words were the final string suspending Mystic's sanity, and when she heard them her mind broke as violently as her heart. "I can't love her," her mother said, "and how could anyone else ever love her either?" If Mystic had heard hatred in her mother's voice, perhaps it would have been easier to bear - but all she heard was sorrow, and pity. The pity was worst. Crawling up to her bedroom, Mystic realised that the trick she needed to accomplish wasn't to make herself disappear, but just to vanish her deformity. Which is why she locked herself in the bathroom and began dragging her nails across her face. In place of the sores, thick red lines began to bloom like neat rows of flowers. After remaining silent for so long (with no one to talk to except herself, and she hated her own company as much as anyone else did) the screams which tore out of her throat were rough and wailing. Blood began to block her vision as she gouged at her scalp and forehead, dripping off her chin and running down her throat. By the time she noticed her father's straight razor, and picked it up the finish the job on her cheeks and her arms, her head was roaring, but she could still hear her parents urgently shouting and banging at the bathroom door. They got in once she was already finished, lying on the floor weakly, her face a red mask, her hair matted copper - not a sore in sight. In their place were deep canyons, striped like a tiger's around her cheeks where the razor had been neater, bending shakily on her forehead like rivers where her nails had done a deeper job. As her sight faded to black and her hearing became uteral, she could hear her mother wailing "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" But Mystic only smiled. A magician never reveals her tricks.

When she regained consciousness, she opened her eyes to find another pair staring back down at her, which she would soon understand belonged to Majestic. Touching her face, she felt it covered in a dense layer of white powder which felt worryingly like lead, covering the terrible secret Mystic kept underneath it. She was ushered into the tent, and once the realisation dawned on her that she was here because her parents didn't want her, and that a Freak Show would be the only place that would, she silently proved she could trick the senses into seeing things that weren't there and bend the mind into thinking even itself was something it wasn't, in order to earn a place to stay. Finally, her profession was named, and finally people loved her for it - including Majestic, who Mystic truly believed loved her with scars and all. She also grew a strong affiliation to Fright, who also covered her face in make-up, and the two would sometimes help each other put it on before a show. She coloured her hair pink on recommendation from her lover, because no one could manage to wash the blood, which had tinted it almost red anyway, out of it. Although she barely speaks, the reassurance that there are people around her who finally truly love her is enough to keep her from spiralling into something even more terrible again. Although who's to say what will happen if she ever finds out about her lover's affair?
