Scylla Roxen Eighteen | Female | District Four |
I know I'm a mess and I wanna be someone
Someone that I like better
I can never forget
So don't remind me of it forever
Someone that I like better
I can never forget
So don't remind me of it forever
A waterfall of crimson gushed down the side of her face splattering against the rocky ground as rescuers carried her broken body found beneath the rubble to the hospital tent stationed somewhere in the midst of district four. Silent tears poured from her eyes leaving streaks of clear in the red. Hours upon hours had been spent trying to force Lulianna to leave the house, yet Scylla was unsuccessful forcing herself to take cover. Broken remnants of her heart fluttered inside her chest pounding against the giant shards of glass puncturing her fragile skin, but none of it compared to the sharp pain ricocheting throughout her entire body with each breath.
Blood trickled down her arms leaving the broken girl to swim in her own blood as the world slowly took her away - just let me die - but the beating of her heart never ceased. Ever since she was born into the horrible world of Panem, Scylla fought for her life. Nobody deserved being abandon by a family, and now she was all that was left. Her adoptive parents were nowhere to be found, and even her biological family was slowly slipping from her grasp. Mizar died in the games, Muscinda committed suicide so many years ago, and Lulianna refused to leave the house when the Capitol warned against the tsunami, but her mind wasn't on that of her sister. Scylla was looking forward to the day of finally rejoining Mizar, yet leaving the world without a cause didn't cross her mind.
"What's your name, kid?"
"Scylla."
"What's your last name?"
"Does it really matter?"
"If you want to meet with your family..."
"I don't have family."
All the man did was shrug his shoulders as they carried her on until they finally reached the medical tent, and the sight inside devoured her heart. Dark eyes locked on the faces of her fellow people belonging to district four. Broken bodies scattered across the tent. Lifeless eyes fixated on the ceiling. Moans and cries of the injured roared through her ears. This is worse than the hunger games.
President Snow only killed twenty-three children a year while mother nature devoured anyone willing to go against her, and Scylla found herself wondering how much time she truly had left.
A male nurse stood by her side holding bandages, gauze, sterile water, and other cleaning supplies on a tiny table. Her eyes focused on his looks taking them in. His blonde hair. His dark brown eyes. "Going to focus on your head first. Stitch up your forehead and your cheek. Unfortunately, there's nothing much I can do for your ribs except bind them together to stop the paradoxical motion. And your chest, well, I'll have to sedate you to remove the glass to make sure I don't make it any worse. Consider yourself lucky." A grim smile filled with sorrow twist across her face as the nurse slowly wiped the blood away from her face. But the moment the sterile water and antiseptic cream touched her wound, Scylla tried backing away while grunting in pain. "Just cleaning you up right now. You'll be needing some stitches, but that's nothing to fret." And finally she noted the way he talked realizing he wasn't from four.
"Have you seen any Roxen's come through here?" She asked mostly to distract herself. "Or any Lloyd's?"
"I have worked on a couple patients with the last name Lloyd, but no Roxen. Sorry." Her heart sank deep into the pits of her stomach. What if I'm the only one left? Living a life abandon by those she never felt love for destroyed her soul, and this was the first chance she had to make herself known to the rest of them, however, it appeared too late. Yet neither the doctor nor Scylla said another word until he finished wrapping the bandage around her torso trying to keep her lungs inflated. "Can I get you anything? A glass of water? Something to eat?"
"A bottle water please."
With a nod of the head he walked away.
Scylla looked around trying to find someone to help her when her eyes landed on a girl looking a lot like her sister. For a moment she pondered wondering if it was smart to ask. While her mind said no, her heart said yes because she needed to make sure she was alive. "Hey, have you seen Lulianna?"
