Appearance:
Rudy wears nothing but black: black jeans, black hoodies, converse painted black-- even his skin is black, though that has less to do with paint and more to do with genetics. On his clothes, he likes to have pictures of skulls, depressing messages, or loudmouth bands that he knows nothing about. He's tall and skinny-- standing at 6'2 and weighing about 140 pounds. He's also toned and a little muscular from spending his time out under the sun swimming for hours on end.
Rudy has thick brown hair which he keeps in a lopsided afro. On his off days, Rudy tends to be very dirty. He runs barefoot in and out of the water and into warm sand which sticks to him and gets in his hair along with the seaweed. New friends of his are always surprised to see him go from perfectly planned outfits to basically nothing but dirt in the summertime. Rudy has a sort of feminine-esque face-- expressive, dainty eyebrows, full cupid's bow lips, almond shaped eyes, and thick eyelashes. He has a dimple that comes out when he frowns (which is very rarely) and an easy grin.
Personality:
Rudy is extremely open minded. He can change his mind very easily-- not that his mind gets made up very often, as he's not a very opinionated person. He likes to pretend he has opinions, but mostly just because he enjoys watching people get riled up over nothing. That said, he is a jokester (and sometimes a prankster) who is easily amused and has a sort of carefree way of looking at life. It's not at all in his nature to judge others-- he's very laid back. Because of his accepting personality, Rudy is a very good listener and knows the deepest secrets of all of his friends-- some people would use this knowledge to their advantage, but it would never occur to Rudy to blackmail someone. There isn't a sly or cunning bone is his body.
Rudy is not very steadfast in any of his various beliefs and tends to be a poser, going in and out of phases. At sixteen, he is very much into the emo world. It doesn't suit his happy, carefree nature at all-- but Rudy thinks being an emo is very fun and cool. Given that he sometimes dresses in black with skulls all over himself, Rudy tends to give the impression that he is rebellious. It's not that he thinks his parents and teachers are tyrants as much as it is that he just doesn't take them or their rules very seriously. He enjoys living by the seat of his pants and feels that the greatest pleasure in life is doing something people don't believe you can do and then laughing in their faces once you've accomplished it.
Rudy goes from being full of energy to being completely bored and lazy. He can swim very far very quickly and is an expert at all things to do in the water, but he doesn't have the time or energy for school or books and has never possessed the natural thirst for knowledge that most children have. Rudy prefers learning things on a need-to-know basis, and then forgetting them until they become useful again. He's not very concerned about his future, and would rather live in the moment than spend his time worrying about a career. That said, he tends to make bad decisions because he is short sighted and never bothers to consider consequences.
History:
Rudy has a little sister named Cyra who is even more of a prankster than he is. She is responsible for at least 50% of the trouble he gets into. He and Cyra get along together very well. They are close to the point where it sometimes seems that they can read each other's minds. Although Cyra gets Rudy into trouble a lot, she also brings out a more responsible side of him. Having a little sister to look out for helps him to think more about things in the long run-- at least where her wellbeing is concerned.
Rudy also has an adopted 'twin' brother called Toby. Though Toby is younger than Rudy by a few months, he is definitely the more responsible of the two and has saved Rudy from himself more times than he can count. Rudy gets very annoyed at Toby sometimes (constantly being nagged about your future can get very annoying) and to get back at him he enjoys pulling pranks.Toby can be extremely gullible, something Rudy really loves about him.
At school, Rudy's lack of respect for authority has made him very popular with the students, though definitely not with the teachers. His laziness and disregard for rules has landed him in summer school more than once and has also set him back a grade. This obviously has made his parents very concerned about his future-- they want him to become something more than just another one of district four's fishermen. They tend to compare his future to his siblings'-- Cyra loves learning and has big dreams for her future and Toby is downright obsessive when it comes to grades, but Rudy acts like he could care less about what happens to him. Fortunately, Rudy doesn't really mind being compared to his siblings-- he doesn't think anything of it. Actually, he doesn't seem to think much about anything! his parents would say, which is exactly the problem.
