The Anthem - Day 4

The night sky is lit up with the Capitol seal, as the Anthem begins to play. It is a patronizing melody that you’ve come to distrust, and tonight, it makes you feel more sick to your stomach than it usually does. You know their intent: they mean to belittle you in the days leading up to, in all probability, your demise.

The song finishes, with the faces of the dead appearing one by one in the sky, in order by district:

That’s 2 more tributes down, leaving 12 others contending with you for the victory. There are 13 competing for life. Twelve more will have to die if you are to survive.

The Capitol seal appears briefly in the sky before the world goes back to blackness. But before you go off to sleep, a deep rumbling fills the arena. The ground beneath you shudders as the noise grows louder and louder. Just as you think it couldn’t possibly increase in volume without your ears bursting, it subsides, replaced instead with a much gentler sounding of rushing water. One of the islands in the arena has sunk.

You expect silence to return to the Arena, but it never does. Strong winds and pouring rain howl through the archipelago. As you attempt to journey from one island to the next, you are swept off course, all your gear, save for your weapon, torn from your possession. Battered by the wind and the waves, you find yourself all alone, coughing and spluttering on the beach of an island you did not intend to travel to. In fact, you’re not really sure where you are at all.
