Writing Thinks "Says"
It feels like it's been forever since she's heard the victor's voice. The dance under the stars and moon still lingers on her waist and arms, tingling her skin in a feeling she's never felt. Oasis Tuson was on fire, burnt by a boy who she had watched murder, the girl from her district. Everyone had been sad, including Oasis, but something else told her Panem had chosen who was meant to win. The victor of the quell, Kirito Miristioma, ended up being someone she met in person, with her own two eyes in the district where water, their most valuable resource fought back against the people. Kirito's worry and kindness showed her what a victor truly is, a person whose broken inside and out, yet they keep fighting for reasons unknown. Curiosity was something she had considered it as, but the feeling was different. A new want that she had never dealt with before.
Since she had been helping Kirito out with surgeries in District Four, all she wanted was to make him smile everyday she could. The victor's smile was a contagious characteristic that sh enjoyed. Everytime she was near him, her eyes watched him and when she was caught staring, she averted her eyes and blushed the light blush that she has only seen on her when Kirito and herself decided to go on a walk and end up dancing in the moonlight. That night stuck with her as she would lay in bed trying to appreciate everything she could about it. Her brother, Rafael Tuson, had noticed her behavior. His brown eyes questioning her gaze towards the tent where the victor stayed. The glint in Rafe's eyes and a smile forms on her brother's face. A look of knowing hit his face and three words pop out of her rather annoying brother, "Who is it?" Her heart pounded against her chest, trying to break free and let out all of the emotion that she felt towards the one person that had caught her eye and made her lose her speech. A name flies from her voice, quicker that she thought it would, "Kirito Miristioma."
Her brother's eyes widen in surprise and a chuckle falls from his lips. The one who had dealt with this feeling that she had never felt in all of her life. His voice answers her question inside her head, "You have a crush on the victor of District Eleven. The one that killed the girl from our district? The one that you should have nothing to do with." Blush fills her cheeks as Rafe rushes a hand through his hair. The worry and concerned looks appear and disappear on her brother's face. His voice sounds tired to her, "Out of everyone, you fell for him?" Oasis let her shoulders fall slowly and small tears fall from her face, the voice that comes out of her throat makes her fall into a hole that she didn't want to exist, "It's not like it matters Rafe. After this, we'll head back to our districts and I'll be like you. Lost and never to be found. My heart broken like yours is. Rafe. I don't want to say goodbye to him..."
Arms wrapped around her body before she could open her eyes. A hand gently pushes away the tears that had fallen down her face. Rafe's voice fills the tent, "If that is truly what you want, I'll follow you. You know that. Besides, it'll be a new adventure and a brand new start for me. Maybe I'll move on from... You know." A small smile reaches the corners of her lips as she wraps her arms around her brother's stronger body. A plan was being formed as soon as Rafe had said the words. Surprise had filled her as Rafe planned so much of their escape to District Eleven. Rafe's plan was to leave and enter the districts late at night. Traveling within the forests that are scattered across the lands of Panem until they reach a field for District Eleven. There was only one problem. Oasis and Rafe had no idea where District Eleven was.
That's when their plan went into overdrive. A map hunt of all of Panem. A rare piece to find. Her happiness was within reach, but also too far away for her to grasp it completely. Not without help. All of her was ready t give up on trying to meet up with the victor. The memories of bruises that she'd get for going back to the district that held the one person who broke her. Memories of the ward that Rafe was stuck in before. The Tusons needed this more than anything else in all of Panem. A new start to a new life in a new place. Her hands searched the main tent that she say Kirito in all the time. The need for a map was essential to their plan. That's when her eyes caught the note. Handwriting that she was able to tell any day since she had met him. A map of Panem with an X marks the spot on the victor village in District Eleven. The note on the map was written in Kirito's handwriting said "One Day?" A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she rolled the map up and stuffed it in her shirt.
The night of the escape was gorgeous. A night that she would envision as the best decision she had ever made. The moon's light shined perfectly on the ocean. The brilliant waves crashing as she gulped the salty air into her head. District Four, a place where the ocean created new memories and a new Oasis. Her attention was adverted to Rafe's face. A smile formed on it. The first smile she had seen since Sonja Arcopello's death. A happy tear strolled down her face and her voice quiet, but calming, "Rafe, It's now or never." The moonlight shined across the both of them. Rafael's smile stayed upon his face. His hand grabbed her own, leaving her smiling back. His voice was calm and happy to be escaping the hell that was District six, "Let's go start a new life in District Eleven sis." Hand in hand, they both marched out of the District and towards their new home. District Eleven. The district full of new wonders.
That's how she got to where they were now. The fields outside of District Eleven. They waved to Rafe and her like welcoming hands. A new fire burned within her body. The last few days had been rough for her and her brother. The wild was exactly what it was, wild. They had only the stuff they could pack in their bags, which was little to nothing. Rafe had tried hunting a few days before they exited the woods, but that had gone about as right as it could. They went hungry for the past few days, but they kept moving. Dirt was littered all over her clothes and body. Rafe's muscles were disappearing slowly and his face looked smaller. It had been a few days since they had any food. The hardships of the wild had taken their toll on the Tusons. Oasis had a few scratches from encounters with thorns. Rafe had cut up his hand trying to cut through some brush. Both of the Tusons felt pain, but the hope of a new life beyond District Six filled them both with a determination that couldn't be stopped.
Oasis' voice was rough and anyone could tell she was in pain and hungry, "Rafe, we're almost there. The map says District Eleven should be only a few miles away." Rafe only nods at Oasis, tiresome eyes laid upon her body. Rafael had more of a toll on his body than her own. At one point, she was sure he was going to pass out, but Rafe continued on for her sake. It was her idea and she knew he didn't agree with her all the way, but enough to follow her. No one in District Six would miss them. Oasis and Rafe were both sure of that. They had talked about everything they could have on the trip to the District past District six. The plan to leave from District Four was safer than their own district. That's the only reasoning Rafe had for Oasis, but she agreed wholeheartedly.
District Eleven looked alive. The place had orchards and fields that seemed to go on forever. Oasis and Rafe had made it to the District of crops. After they had taken a little bit of a side track to get themselves and clothes cleaned to fit in the district more, they had went straight to the district. The only thing was that they fit in already. Children that they had seen had dirt covering them from playing in the fields. Food seemed to be an abundance for the district, but eating the food didn't seem to be the norm in District Eleven. Oasis took everything in with her tired eyes. The district seemed to be more outdoorsy than her own hospital filled district. Fields of crops were everywhere. Anything and everything were in the fields. Oasis and Rafe tempted to steal a crop or two decided against stealing it. Oasis had told Rafe that Kirito would have something they could have. Rafe only nodded to his sister, looking like he was about to pass out.
The victor's village seemed peaceful. Three of the homes contained a victor within and their families. Oasis could name them all from the little amount of talking that Kirito and her had. Rafe called her crazy a few days ago for even thinking about following Kirito to District Eleven was smart. His voice filled her head like a voice of reasoning, "He's just a guy Oasis. Are you sure he's going to just accept us right away? What about his family? The victors in Victor's village, any of them could report us for fleeing District Six." Oasis had listened to everything Rafe had said days earlier, but it was already too late. Her mind had been made up since she had seen the map. Kirito cared just as much as she did. Everything would be okay. I can do this. The voice in her head told her over and over. Everything was going to be okay. Oasis and Kirito would figure it out together.
Her hand softly goes to the door. Her heart begins pumping out of her chest as the anticipation is going to kill her. Rafael stands quietly behind her, a presence that she needed to keep her grounded if things didn't go right. The door slowly opens and tears flow softly down her tired and rather broken eyes. Kirito Miristioma stands in the doorway. It was too much for her not to do. Rafe's stare goes onto the both of them. Oasis is falling. He body feels weak, but she falls into his arms. A line from a song that her mother had once sung to her flows into her head, One day, I'll fall into your arms and never let go.
