How To Train Your Dragon | {Dragon/Charm/Spear}

It was an early morning in the Jinx family household. At about six in the morning, Charm had awoken and headed downstairs. After the usual conversation over breakfast with the family, it had been decided that Charm would be taking Dragon and Spear with her training that day. Actually, to be more exact, she and Spear would be taking Dragon training. He needed to learn more in case he ever ended up in the Games. Heading to the training center with two of her blond-haired little brothers, Charm skipped as she walked. She had a smile on her face, as she often did when she was excited to get to the day's work of training. Training was her stress relief. If there was ever something bothering her, she would often go slashing at things with her sword. She often kept her sword at her bedside at night, and would take it with her in the morning when she went to go training. The only time she couldn't and didn't have it with her was at school, and it made her feel empty without it. They arrived at the training center with Spear complaining and Charm eager to get started with the day. "Oh, shut up Spear. You're always complaining about something. We need to get started and help out Dragon." Charm scolded him. "Alright, let's get started. What weapon would you like to use, Dragon?" Charm awaited Dragon's response, all the while holding tightly on to her prized sword. The gems on the ring on her finger appeared to be glowing in the flouresent lighting in the training area. She was shaking with excitement as she waited, and couldn't wait to be able to train Dragon for the first time. In all honesty, they should have started before he was of reaping age, but now that he was thirteen years old, it was better late than never.

NOTES I think I'll alternate between Charm and Spear, ocassionally putting them in the same post. Sorry for the short start!

DRAGON JINX Dragon was almost bursting with excited energy. He had run ahead of Charm and Spear into the training center and now grinned up at his older sister, bouncing up and down on his toes. He took one look at the magnificent sword glinting in Charm's hand, wickedly sharp, and said confidently, "I want a sword!" He looked around the training center with wide eyes, grinning. Nothing would be better than -finally- learning to fight. He had waited his entire life for this. He would finally really be one of the Jinxes, because everyone knew that Jinxes could fight. Everyone knew how impressive his family was, and that one day, it would be a Jinx winning the Hunger Games for District 4. There was nothing Dragon wanted more than to be that Jinx. He would be the one to make sure everyone respected him and his family, and if they didn't, he would have the skills to make them regret it. His grin widened. He would finally stand out among the Jinxes-- he was tired of being just another blond kid with respectable parents and cool older siblings. He wanted people to know his name. Dragon Jinx. He would live up to that name. "A really big sword," he added, glancing around the training center for weapons. He couldn't wait to get started, and he walked around the training center, running his hands over everything as he walked by it, already in love with the place. He would even skip swimming trips to come train here, this place was so cool. He called out to Charm as he kept walking, "And can we come back and keep training tomorrow? And the day after that?" Dragon was sure he would learn quickly. He'd be the best Career his age in no time, especially with Charm and Spear to teach him. Maybe eventually he'd even be able to beat his older siblings in a fight. Now that would be fun to tell his classmates about. Of course he would be great at fighting. He was a Jinx. It would come naturally to him. His hands were itching to get a hold of a weapon and get started already. "Can we start now?" he asked Charm and Spear impatiently, looking back and forth between them. "Where am I gonna get my sword from?" His eyes scanned the training center for weapons. Waking up early was not something that Spear found particularly pleasing. He didn't like having to get up and go somewhere first thing in the morning. Luckily, though, it wasn't school this time. It was a chance for him to go training, which he loved to do. There was one thing he didn't like about today's training, however. Today, he and his sister, Charm, would be taking one of their younger brothers, Dragon, to train for the first time. Dragon, as far as Spear knew, had never even held a weapon. Therefore, when they got to the training center and Charm asked him what type of weapon he wanted, Spear was shocked at the reply. He wanted a big sword. Spear couldn't imagine actually giving the boy a big sword, as that meant it would have to be bigger than the one that Charm had (which wasn't considered all that large). Charm always seemed to have her sword with her when she wasn't at school, although, Spear could've sworn she'd brought it with her before and had it temporarily confiscated from her. Regardless, Spear wasn't the most comfortable with giving his younger brother, Dragon, such a big and dangerous weapon to start with. Therefore, he decided to suggest something of a bit of a smaller scale. "What about a knife instead, Dragon? I think it's best if you start small, to be honest with you." Spear said. "After all, you've never really handled a weapon of any sort." continued the older of the two blonde boys. Glancing in the direction of Charm for support on his comment, he hoped that she wouldn't cave in and just do what Dragon wanted to do. He really thought it was too dangerous, and he wasn't even someone who normally looked out for others. Generally, Spear would just let him go with it, but today, there seemed to be an oddly high amount of nerves for Spear when associating his little brother with a big sword.

Charm was excited to start training with Dragon, and it was nice to have Spear out of the house for once with her, as he often ignored her or gave her the evil eye, as he generally liked to be alone and away from the family if he could be. Charm was much more social than he was. After having asked what type of weapon Dragon wanted to use, Charm let out a content laugh when he said he wanted a big sword. She was glad to see that he may be like her in his weapon preference. Spear, however, didn't seem as happy, and for once was acting like the protective older brother, suggesting a knife instead. Charm, though, didn't think it was an issue for Dragon to go straight for the big weapons. After all, that's what Charm did when she first started training, and she had only been ten years old at the time. "Oh, come on, Spear. Give him a chance!" Charm insisted. Spear remained quiet after that comment, clearly deciding it was best not to argue. Then the brunette girl turned to the younger of the two boys. "Yes, Dragon, we'll get you a nice, big sword to try out!" her enthusiasm showed through with the comment. The next question that Dragon asked was if they could train every day, and his excitement certainly was uncontained. Charm let out another laugh, and this time ruffled the young boy's hair. "We'll train as much as we can, okay? Now, let's get you that sword." Charm said, then journeying over towards the selection of weapons.

DRAGON JINX "What about a knife instead, Dragon? I think it's best if you start small, to be honest with you." Spear said. "After all, you've never really handled a weapon of any sort." Dragon was back near his older siblings in a second at that. "What, you think I'm not good enough to handle it?" he said loudly. "I can do it! I know I can!" Dragon crossed his arms and glared daggers at Spear. A knife. Starting small. He snorted in derision. As if. Dragon was going to have a big, impressive sword and there was no way he was letting his older brother get in his way.  "Oh, come on, Spear. Give him a chance!" Charm said. "Yes, Dragon, we'll get you a nice, big sword to try out!" she continued. When he stepped back he looked back Spear. "See?" he said smugly to Spear, smirking. "I'm gonna use a sword."  Charm laughed and ruffled his hair at his next question and Dragon rolled his eyes and pushed her hand away, though he was still smiling because she was letting him use a sword. "M'not a baby, Charm," he grumbled. "We'll train as much as we can, okay?" she said. "Now let's get you that sword." She walked towards the selection of weapons and Dragon was right behind her. How had he missed these before? They were amazing. He wanted to pick up all of them and take them home, so many of them were so shiny, they looked so deadly, so real. Everyone would have to take him seriously if he had one of these bad boys.   He stepped closer and looked at them closely, and almost immediately, something caught his eye. It was a broadsword, elegant but harsh, with the two protruding pieces of the cross guard curving upward slightly, away from where his hand would go and towards the gleaming metal blade, which was about as long as his arm. Dragon reached for it immediately, his eyes bright with excitement. As his hand closed around the leather-wrapped hilt, he noticed something that made him laugh out loud-- in thin, delicate lines near the base of the blade, there was the engraving of a dragon! He lifted the sword quickly, surprised at its weight, and turned to show Charm. "Look! I have to have this one! It's meant for me!"

Dragon's sassiness towards Spear when he recommended a knife made Charm let out a laugh. She thought it was quite funny to see Dragon get sassy and defensive like that, as he often did. The boy even made a smart remark to his older brother when Charm had said that he could use a sword. When she had ruffled his hair, however, he didn't seem too happy, complaining to her that he was 'not a baby'. Charm smirked a bit, finding his response a bit funny. When the three Jinxes reached the swords, Spear trailing behind a little bit, dragging his feet while clearly in a cranky mood over what was going on, Dragon immediately rushed to the swords, examining one until he seemed to find one that he really liked. Charm could see the excitement in the young boy's eyes when he saw the broadsword. In all honesty, Charm thought the sword was beautiful. There was no doubt in her mind that Spear would think it was too big and dangerous for the young boy, but she knew that she could train him with it just fine. The sword was slightly bigger than the one that Charm had in her possession, and at the end was a dragon on the handle. It looked rather elegant to Charm, and she really liked swords that had detailing on the handle, almost wishing hers were like that. "That sword looks perfect for you, Dragon! Let's practice on some of the mannequins!" Charm exclaimed. Then, she whispered to him, "Maybe I can get them to sell it to me. I made a lot of money this week that they might be willing to take for it." That was when Spear rolled his eyes and Charm elbowed him in the gut, causing him to double over in pain. Luckily, Spear had good pain tolerance and was back to normal, or as normal as Spear could be, in just a few moments, giving Charm an evil glare.

DRAGON JINX "Thanks, Charm!" Dragon replied. It was great to have Charm Jinx as his sister-- he doubted anyone would deny her what she wanted when she asked for it, especially if she brought her sword when she went to talk to the technical owner of his sword. She could look pretty intimidating when she wanted to. In Dragon's mind, the sword was already his, and her buying it for him was just a technicality. Then he went right over to the mannequins, after smirking when Charm elbowed Spear in the gut. As he walked over to a cloth-filled-with-straw mannequin, taller than he was, and looked up to it, his arm was already starting to get used to the weight of the sword. He hefted it, tossing it back from one hand to another while looking up into the faceless head of the mannequin, trying to get a feel for how it moved in his hand. He glanced back at Charm. Her stance was relaxed as she held her sword; it looked almost like a gleaming, deadly extension of her arm. It looked so cool. Dragon tried to hold his sword like that. All of that took about half a minute, and then he got tired of just standing there with his sword and not doing anything with it, took a step back, and swung his sword wildly at the neck of the mannequin. The sharp edge struck the cloth with a very satisfying ripping sound, and Dragon grinned as straw burst out and drifted to the floor. "Ha ha!" he exclaimed, turning back towards his siblings and raising his sword above his head. It only wobbled a little bit when he did this. "How was that?" he asked, looking for approval in their faces. He wanted nothing more than to be a real Jinx, someone who could fight. He wanted to gain the skill to win the Games. He couldn't wait for all of the awesome things he would learn from his siblings. And Griffin and Serpent could learn them too, and they could practice together, and before they knew it Dragon would be the Jinx victor of District Four. He couldn't wait.

Spear was a bit surprised when Charm actually went through with what she said when she told Dragon she'd try to get the sword for him. She had told Spear to help out Dragon, and she then went over to talk to the man that she knew owned the weapons there. Spear thought to himself, 'Why do I have to train the kid? I don't use swords, I use knives and spears...' Reluctantly, the fifteen year old boy kept an eye on his brother and was ready to give him pointers if he were capable of doing so when necessary. Dragon had sliced a little bit into one of the straw dummies, and Spear who was standing there confidently with his arms crossed, smiled. The young boy had raised his sword above his head in triumph. "Careful, Dragon." Spear told him. The younger boy then asked his older brother how he did, and Spear replied, "You did a good job but you have to try to use a bit more of the blade so you're not just cutting into it. You would need to make the cut deeper to do enough damage, okay?" Spear watched as Charm returned to join he and Dragon, a broad smile on her face. She looked confident, like she had accomplished something, and Spear could certainly assume as to what it was. His guess was that Charm had gotten the sword for Dragon. She went over to whisper something to Dragon, and then went over to Spear and whispered something to him as well. "Get yourself a weapon that you like. It's yours. The guy said that I just have to help train some of the younger kids here every weekend and I've earned one weapon for you and one for Dragon. Enjoy." She gave him a smile when she stepped away from him and then headed back over to help Dragon out.

Charm had headed over to where the man who owned the weapons was, and decided to speak up to take her chance with what she wanted. "May I help you, Charm?" the man asked. Charm went to the training center so often that the two were on a first name basis. "Yes, Jacob, I have a question for you, if you don't mind." she replied. "Fire away." the man insisted. "Well, I'm wondering if you'd have a way I could earn or buy that sword with the dragon on the handle from you. My younger brother seems to have taken quite the liking to it, after all." she asked him. The man stood there for a moment, pondering what his response should be, and then spoke up. "I'll make a deal with you, Charm." he said. "If you come in here every weekend to help me train the little ones, I'll give you that sword, and one thing for Spear." Charm was surprised at how easy it as for her to get what she had wanted. Then again, she was able to convince people of things rather easily, without even trying all that hard. "Thank you very much!" Charm told. Then, she headed back over to Dragon and Spear. She whispered the news to Spear, as well as Dragon. Specifically, when she spoke to Dragon, she said, "It's all yours, buddy!"
