TRIGGER WARNING
The sun's bright luminescence shone through Cinder's eyelids. The young girl was awoken by this around six in the morning. Stretching and yawning, she then stood up and got out of her bed. She headed down the hallway of her one story home to reach the kitchen and make breakfast. The twelve year old girl was forced to do this every morning while her family slept in. They never really treated her right, but at least this wasn't something too bad.
When she began preparing breakfast, she had to be sure not to mess anything up. The food couldn't be even the slightest bit burnt. Nothing could be overcooked or undercooked, or she'd be punished. After the food was ready, she informed her sleeping family members who came downstairs to eat, not even thanking the young girl. She was to eat last, after everyone else was finished, and if there was no food left, she would not eat breakfast, which was part of the reason she was such a small girl.
The family finished eating, aside from Cinder, who was left with nothing but a small slice of bread that morning, which she ate some of and held onto the rest for later. Her family headed out for their jobs, and Cinder was lucky enough to have the day off from having to do anything outside of the house. Heading over to the front door after her family had left about twenty minutes prior, she put on her shoes, grabbed a small basket that she put her bread and a small amount of cash in, and headed outside.
Walking around the district for a while, she eventually arrived at a small market where people from around the district would sell things such as food and other items. She browsed around the the market, looking at the various items that the vendors had with them. She looked through a small contained of jewelry, deciding that perhaps she would treat herself to something special without her family knowing. Picking up a necklace, she examined it. The pendant was a glass slipper, and the chain it was on was a beautiful silver color. Turning to the older man that was selling it, she asked him how much he would like for it.
The man glanced in her basket to see what she had, and asked for a small portion of the money, which she gave to him. He handed her the necklace and she thanked him sincerely. Unclasping the necklace, she placed it around her neck and clasped it once more. Tucking the pendant into her shirt so it wasn't visible, she continued to look around.
While she was there, Cinder didn't purchase anything else. Judging by where the sun was in the sky, however, Cinder knew she should go home. It was getting later in the day, and if her family were there when she got home, she'd be facing severe consequences, or perhaps even a small beating, which happened to her on occasion.
Arriving back at her house, Cinder entered the small cottage-like, wooden home. Closing the door behind her, she then removed her shoes and brought the basket the had with the remaining money and bread up to her room, hiding it where her family would not find it. Immediately after, she got to cleaning around the house, as her cruel step-mother would punish her severely if she didn't do it. Cinder would scrub the floors and clean every inch of the house. Her bed was made, and she had to make the bed of the rest of her family members as well. After she was finished, her family arrived moments later. That night, however, one of her step sisters noticed the necklace that Cinder had. She was beaten by her step-mother for having left the house. The only reason she was allowed to keep the necklace she obtained, however, was because her father managed to make an agreement with her step-mother about it.
