In the shadows of District Six, one family lurks, unseen by the general public, but well-known to those who deal in darkness. The Hart family is composed of thirteen key members, although they’ve recently taken in a fourteenth. Whereas most of them are blood-related, they rarely feel any emotion towards their family members. They seek to become the most powerful group in the district, and to that end, even kin is disposable. Those lost to the family can be easily be replaced, and those who stray for the patriarch’s will be terminated without mercy. To him, they are little more than a number, a means to an end.
This callous indifference extends to the clan members, each of whom knows that their only purpose is to further their family's one true goal and turn District 6 into the kingdom of the Harts. This does not mean that they serve their leader blindly, however, and some members surely feel a closer bond to one or two others than they do the patriarch's cause. The seeds of dissent are stirring, but for now their roots have not spread far enough to give them true credibility, and fear of what might happen to those who disobey continues to keep everyone in line.
Each member takes on a crucial role without the family, serving the family’s needs in a unique way. Although their personalities and strengths vary, one thing is clear – those who dare cross the group do not live long enough to even regret their decision.
Family Members
I - Xemnas (M|43)
The family patriarch. He has no sense of morality, treating all of those around him as nothing more than tools that he needs to accomplish his master plan of district dominance. He has been planning to take over the district since he was a teenager, shaped by hard times into the monster he is now. At his age, Xemnas only gets his hands dirty in rare cases and prefers to merely administer operations while the rest of the family goes on various missions for him. Nevertheless, one word from him tends to put even the most unruly of his group in line. They know that behind his normally calm exterior lies an anger and ferocity that know no bounds.
II - Xigbar (M|19)
Xemnas’ eldest son and the most loyal member of the family. He is a big man, toned and strong, and yet he seems to move like a shadow, quick and untraceable. He normally stands by his father’s side, the two sharing a trust that the patriarch can’t extend to the others. However, in cases when only the stealthiest robbery can bring a much-needed resource in the Hart family’s hands, it is Xigbar who goes off in the dead of night to retrieve it. Although no crimes have been pinned on him, those he robs have started referring to him as “The Ghost Thief.” Amongst the family, however, he is known more for his knife-throwing skills, which, combined with his speed, have earned him the nickname “The Freeshooter.”
III - Xaldin (M|18)
An illegitimate child, Xaldin has been raised alongside Xigbar and is closer to the eldest Hart child than to anyone else. In fact, he could care less about anyone else’s desires, even Xemnas’. He stays with the Hart family, because of Xigbar’s unwavering loyalty, but although the patriarch raised him, he never won over Xaldin’s devotion. To everyone else in the family, Xaldin appears as a giant, unfazed by all around him. Xaldin, like Xigbar, is acrobatic, though much less quick than the latter. He tends to focus more on his fists to get things done, though in rougher situations, spears work too. Like his father, he hides a temper capable of unleashing a whirlwind rage.
IV - Vexen (F|18)
A cold-hearted girl who knows just wish buttons to push to get what she wants. Perceptive, she studies her victims before closing in on them, captivating them with her body and charm. Often, she pretends to feign disinterest, making her victims think she’s playing hard to get, when in reality she knows that by the next morning, they’ll have been nothing but another target. Getting attached is simply not an option for her, especially when she considers everyone else to be beneath her. Men, women - they are nothing but sources of secrets or obstacles in her father’s path. Those useless to their cause are not worth her time, whereas those who may sway the tide are to be eliminated without prejudice.
V - Lexaeus (M|18)
Although not from the main branch of the family, Lexaeus is truly a sight to behold, and a force to be reckoned with. His size alone is enough to frighten those who come across him in public. Looking significantly older than he is, and owning an inch of width for every inch of his 6’8” height, Lexaeus is the family enforcer. He’s not overly bright and tends to be honest to the point of being blunt, but he enjoys the straightforward assignments. Break some bones, leave some bruises – that’s all light work for Lexaeus. He has yet to kill, as the opportunity to do so tends to go to the main members of the family, but he looks forward to the day when he is finally allowed to so. He just hopes he won’t get cold feet.
VI - Zexion (M|16)
The bookkeeper of the group and the son of Luxord. He avoids getting his hands dirty and would rather stick to numbers and books. Growing up a child protegy, Zexion could have been a great figure, but being born a Hart gave him no choice but to stick with the family. He sometimes wonders if he could amount to something more, but he knows what happens to those who cross his uncle, and he is smart enough to do the math and realize his odds of surviving an altercation aren’t high. His quick wit might help him for a while against a weak and foolish opponent, but his family’s power is all-consuming, and there would be no getting out for Zexion.
VII - Saix/Isa (F|17)
Saix is the family’s wild card. She used to be completely unpredictable, where the toss of a coin would have better luck deciding her usefulness on a given day than any member of the family. The truth is that normally, she is a quiet girl, quite timid in fact. She helps out the other members with menial tasks and is pleasant to be around. However, on some days, she is as wild as a feral dog, losing all control over her actions and acting out violently. Recently, the family realized that by providing the girl with alcohol, particularly a drink called moonshine, once a month, the outbursts could be controlled. That’s when Isa would come out and reign free for 24 hours, before receding yet again. The “treatment” has contained the beast, but it has also left the girl with an urge to let her free, though that might just be Isa’s whispers in Saix’s head.
VIII - Axel (M|16)
With hair and a will that resemble a raging fire, Axel is the family’s young arsonist. He is quite the cocky young man, always eager to prove his worth to others. Whereas most of the family prefers to operate in the shadows, Axel has no problems with others knowing his name. He does not fear capture, though that doesn’t mean he lacks caution. When he meets people out in the open, however, he has no worries about introducing himself. In fact, he’s got his opening greeting down to an exact science – “The name’s Axel. Got it memorized?” Although loyal to the family, Axel is closest to the two youngest members, Roxas and Xion. Despite, like most of the family, being emotionally deficient, he sees the two younger children as his humanity, and he would do anything possible to take care of them.
IX - Demyx (F|15)
With a mouth that produces words like water, Demyx is the smoothest talker in the group, able to convince a person looking for one drink to buy a round for the whole house or to betray their best interests… if she can be bothered. Demyx is easily the laziest of the crew when it comes to taking on assignments, preferring to play her guitar or bartend for the fun of it instead. Only the fear of the patriarch’s wrath keeps her from completely shirking her duties. Otherwise, she’d just let Larxene, her twin, do all of the work. The other girl, from Demyx’s perspective, is much more suited for this line of business. But because she must, Demyx works her tongue in any way she can to extract information, and occasionally slips in one of Marluxia’s concoctions into her client’s beverages, when the situation calls for a deadlier solution.
X - Luxord (M|40)
A dealer of whispers and secrets, Luxord is Xemnas’ younger brother and a notorious gambler. Though is it really gambling if you always win? Luxord has a way with cards and dice, some way of getting them to always fall out in his favor. He owns the bar where several family members work, and where many in the district stop by for a late night drink. Often he stays behind the scenes, but every once in a while he pops out under the guise of an employee, particularly on Casino Nights, where he rakes in plenty of money, and secrets, for the house. Life has been kind to Luxord, and he sees no reason to try anything new when everything’s been going so well for him. He is a strong believer in fate and tends to speak in cryptic riddles, treating life as if nobody truly has control over their decisions.
XI - Marluxia (F|16)
The family’s poison expert, Marluxia has always been fascinated with botany. She was intrigued from a young age by the way even the most beautiful of roses could deliver a powerful sting with its sharp thrones. She spent her early days studying flowers, which eventually turned into a study of toxins. Marluxia’s specialty is slow-acting poisons, which she often provides for Demyx. Her favorite fatal addition is called “Dahlia’s Kiss,” which at first adds a pleasant flowery aroma to any drink, but which is guaranteed to leave the victim stiff and purple as the flower from which the poison gets its name within 24 hours. She cares little for human life, but harm one of her plants, and you will find yourself filled with another flower’s juices.
XII - Larxene (F|15)
Larxene, twin to Demyx, could be no more different from the other girl. Where Demyx is lazy, Larxene is perhaps the most eager of the family to perform tasks for Xemnas. Her general demeanor is one of a very eager girl, happy with everything in her life. She tends to smile and laugh a lot, appearing giddy and clueless about her surroundings. Yet beneath that innocent exterior lies the heart of a killer, waiting to get back at anyone who gets in her way with a swift stab of a knife. Although her targets fail to see past her ruse, her family knows how devious Larxene truly is, most of all Demyx, and so they keep their distance from the girl. The only one who feels comfortable around her is Xemnas, but only because he feels so self-assured of his power that he feel s any attempts to usurp him would surely fail.
XIII - Roxas (M|14)
The youngest trueborn child in the Hart family clan, Roxas is the greatest lockpick around. No security measures can stop him from getting his greedy little hands on someone else’s prized possessions. He is close to Axel and Xion, and he is the one who takes a stand for the young girl when other members of the group seek to undermine her place among them. Together, the trio enjoys pursuing their own interests instead of those of the family. Xemnas knows this, and he watches over them to make sure they don’t stray out of line, particularly because, unbeknownst to anyone else, least of all Roxas, he wants the young boy to ultimately be his successor when the time comes. However, if Roxas continue to live selfishly, only going on missions when necessary, that is one plan Xemnas may be forced to change.
XIV - Xion (F|13)
Xion is the newest member of the group, and the one despised by even those who aren’t trueborn Harts, although her role as the one who disposes of the evidence is necessary to ensure the family’s continued success. Xion was discovered several years ago by Xigbar, who found the little girl sleeping in the basement of Xemnas’s residence. The house was meant to be impenetrable, on constant guard by several other Harts, and yet she had gotten, and stayed, inside for an uncertain amount of time. Xigbar brought the girl to Xemnas, anticipating an order to execute the intruder, and so he was shocked when Xemnas noted her potential and decided to add her to the Hart family. The patriarch lectured his eldest son on the usefulness of a small thief who could surpass even their defenses. She would be useful in times when Xigbar wasn’t. This greatly annoyed the eldest son, as well as Luxord, Lexaeus and Xaldin, who were supposed to ensure the house’s safety that day. They felt insecure about their positions within the family as a result of this, and their emotions turned into a hatred for the girl, a sentiment soon shared by the other family members, save for Xemnas, Axel and Roxas. The latter two became her close companions, working on her timid nature to build her confidence, knowing she would need to confidently defend herself if she wanted to survive.
