THE LEGEND
The documentary footage clicked and growled as the reel hurled round. A single ray of white light shot onto the projection board like the touch of a god through parted clouds. The room fell silent. Students, lecturers and outsiders alike looked on with wonder, feeling a curious warmth flutter inside them like a flame.
"Millenia before the Dark Days, greed had a common place in the world..."
He sat at the back of the room and considered the old-time narration of the video; how many thought of themselves when the word greed crackled about in the darkness? The couple next to him - donning jewel encrusted suit jackets - certainly didn't.
"Ancient stories tell of a king, as noble and bold as the rest, who decided that even the royal hoard of gold and diamond was too little..."
Yes-- even an entire nation's wealth wouldn't be enough for such a man. A man entitled to it all could never be satisfied. That, after all, was why they all sat before this screen in this dusty room; each of them was dissatified.
"... and the regal King Midas died due to his vice. Every piece of food he tried to each, every rose, each of the three daughters he touched were frozen in gold, and in time..."
Gasps floated across the surface of the crowded room. The grainy footage before them was dark for a moment, then, in an instant, a flashlight illuminated the insides a cave. As the faceless adventurers glanced around, their light peaked against several bright objects. The camera grew closer as they did and the harsh, metallic truth fell upon everyone's mesmerised glare.
"This is the only surviving footage of the discovery of King Midas' Gold."
All was silent for a time after the reel spun to its end. It was a frenkled girl with a husky voice who dared first to speak.
"Professor," she began,to catch the dark-eyed woman's attention. "I, like the video said, the treasure was lost again before the Dark Days-"
The crowd sensed the oncoming question and hovered about it like moths at neon.
"-do we know where it is now?"
"We don't," the professor declared. "The Gold is truly lost."
THE SUMMARY
This plot is inspired by the great fictional treasure hunters; Indiana Jones, Lara Croft & Nathan Drake among others. The storyline follows several individuals in the search for the golden trove of King Midas - which includes the metallic remains of his daughters - that has been shown on tape in the Captiol after a video was recently uncovered. Professions say that, if the tape is even genuine, the gold is long lost.
Many disagree.
Characters are split into two main 'factions'; good treasure hunters vs. bad treasure hunters (aka Indy vs the Nazis!). The 'good' characters are searching for the treasure for more positive reason than 'bad', but that doesn't need to restirct the morality of the character too much.
Most of the characters will be Capitolites, but some may be wanderers. The plot will be played out between the Capitol & the 'other lands'.
Other characters may also participate. These may be considered as extras in the plot. They can also be treasure hunters but are more likely not to be. Wanderers will likely fall into this category as the film showing the treasure was shown in the Capitol (but not necessarily!). Basically anyone can be part of this final group.
