[Day 1] Long Jump

Long Jump

Welcome to the long jump of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the backstop, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character setting up for their jumps, and then paste the code [*roll=195+600] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a three-digit number that will correspond to a distance, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 682 is read as 6.82 meters) Each participant will be measured by their best jump only, not their average distance or the sum of their jumps.

The competitor with the furthest distance wins this event. Distances for this event will be continually updated on this thread. After you have rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction to each jump if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your jumps whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

Ronnie Cheyne

Indulging in the atmosphere, the gathering of Districts reminded Ronnie of the tsunami relief, not that he really got involved with it. The only time he really went to the relief centre was to greet the victor of the seventy-second games and what a treat that was. (Except unfortunately he was not alone and had the company of his two cousins: the ugly brute and broken little kid.)

As soon as the sign ups for the Olympics were released, Ronnie was quick on squibbling his name down on an array of events. He had to put himself on stage somehow. Long jump, high jump, diving and the four hundred meter sprint. There was no intelligent strategy when choosing the events; they just sounded fun to him.

Seeing how far he could throw himself into a pit of sand, sounded rather amusing to him.

Readying himself as soon as the starters orders are raised, he pushes his body down the track, sprinting to the pit. Taking off at the white line, he blunders through the air.

L U X P E L O T T E

People were flocking in their hundreds. There's something entirely, completely, utterly, madly, truly crazy about the Panem Olympics—perhaps it's the fact people from other Districts are meeting with us. If anyone thought we were tough prior to this, seeing some of the muscle men and women One and Two have produced is sure to put their thoughts in their rightful place.

Because Ripred, some of them look like they could throw me right to the Capitol.

I sigh. This whole ordeal wasn't even what I wanted for myself. Expectations from parents meant that I had certain standards to live up to; the typical story of nurturing a child and seeing them grow from baby to brute came with a hope of glory. 

In this case, glory meant medals. The more events, the more medals—that's how they see it, at least.

Only the first day of competition and I'm thrown into the thick of it. Numerous different events to compete in, but countless eyes watching every right and wrong move I'm destined to take. In this case, a wrong move meant falling through the air instead of soaring.

Long jump; the Cheyne boy sets a pretty large distance which appears nearly impossible to beat. Although the word 'impossible' says 'I'm possible', I'd highly doubt the odds are in my favour during this event.

I smile as I step out onto the field. These other competitors probably have no idea what they're doing despite the simpleness of the task at hand. All you need to do is run, jump, and land as far away as you can. I wave at the crowd, grinning throughout my grand entrance. The crowd is loud and noisy, but exhilerating to be around.

I take my place at the start, taking a few deep breaths. My eyes travel along the path I would need to run across. I breath in through my nose, and out through my mouth before I begin to run.

I start out slow at first, but I begin tog et faster and faster and faster, speeding up until it's a full sprint. My legs carry my into the air as I reach the line and I soar, landing abruptly in the sand. I move away from the sandpit and complete the simple tasks two more times before averting my brown eyes up to the screen where my scores will be displayed.

They parade around like a lost group of children. Shown out to the people like pawns of the district. They represent the people who live in each area, eyes wide and excited, while other hide in their smile. Darkness looms over everyone and yet the adrenaline rush that it creates makes him squirm in joy. The Olympics was Enzo's idea. All three of them tried out for it, but Nemo fell short so quickly. It wasn't a surprise to the eldest who was in charge of the home now. Dead parents still haunt him at night, even though there is nothing he could do about it. The only way to make sure he's alive is to feel something real. Something that brings him to life, that was his reasoning for joining the games.

The unfortunate thing for the first day was he got drunk. So drunk the night before. Everything that could hurt, did hurt. There wasn't anything in his body that throbbed in the light. Enzo had told him to lighten up and sleep before getting to the olympics, but he couldn't sleep. Not with his parent's dead eyes staring back at him. It had been his fault why they died. If only they hadn't separated from them when the tsunami hit, but nothing could fix it now. The olympics were now. No more of the past to haunt him, instead he needed to focus as much as he could. WHen it was his turn to leap as far as he could. He tried his best and leaped. The air soaring by him. His distance, he didn't know and didn't care about too much.

When she shows up for her event, she is ready to win. She is a La Torre — fierce, fearless, unstoppable. And she intends to show that in the Olympics, if not today, then the next.

She gathers her strength and fire as she stands on the track, one knee forward in a lunge, poised to bolt off the moment the whistle sounds. Her fingers twitch as she stands there, palms beginning to bead with nervous sweat (she tries to push down the spineless feeling, but to no avail), and her heart is keeping time to every second that passes by.

Nervous, yes, for the first time in a long time she is nervous. As much as that sickens her, at least she is not afraid.

And then it sounds, piercing the air sharply, and Colt La Torre is gone, running at breakneck speed toward the hurtles.

[Sleepy Fluttershy]

In the jumping competitions, it's not really about the training. It all depends on the length of your legs and your technique. At least, I have always thought so. I glance at the other jumpers nervously. Many of them are higher than I am, so in my case, the length of my jump will be mostly depending on pure luck. The sprint will be no problem, because I am a good runner, but the rest is unpredictable. Maybe my trained leg muscles will turn out helpful, maybe I won't jump really far. I think that I most likely won't break a record, but it doesn't matter. 

My turn. I run... And jump with my eyes closed, my heart pounding in my ears and my mind concentrated on the techniques. Wherever I land, winning is not important, taking part is also great. My feet touch the ground somewhere and I open my eyes to take a look at the result.

Panem's Third Olympic Games

    The horrid acceptance of bitter tasting defeat was not something Fox excelled in. As far as she was concerned her performance at the Diving was nothing short of disastrous. Yet her trainer urged her on to leave it like a crumbling ruin within the past. Fox couldn't, it was a bright beacon of failure upon her lightly toned skin. Her beauty had been pierced by unacceptable performance. Now she had to regain her spotlight through an event she only recently got selected to compete within.  

     One by one her opponents leaped to achieve the greatest distance. Several of their scores peaked Fox's interest, yet in truth they all stood as threats before her. Now was her chance at redemption and to return to the glow of a warm spot light. All she had to do was use what genetics had given her along with her training.

    Fox was naturally long so she could only hope her body would assist in her event. However, as Fox now learned from her spell at the Diving, nothing was guaranteed. Everything had to be earned. So as she positioned herself for her first jump she let the sun bathe its rays over her. For now the world watched her, all she had to do was prove to them she was worthy of their attention. Make them notice you. Make them love you. Then she jumped.
