[Day 1] Diving: 10m Platform

DIVING: 10M PLATFORM

Welcome to the Individual Diving tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The diving pool is located in the aquatics center, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you all warm up with your coaches before your turn comes to dive, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready for their dives, and then paste the code [*roll=10] without the asterisks THREE TIMES (you are taking three dives) into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. You will roll a number 1-10 on each dice, and that represents your execution score out of ten. In addition to this, each dive will have a different difficulty score, which will be added to your execution scores to get your actual score for each dive. In the end, all these will be added up to determine your overall score.

The difficulty degrees of each dive are as follows:

Dive 1 - 5.0
Dive 2 - 5.8
Dive 3 - 6.5


Feel free to roleplay your character performing each dive/their reaction to each dive/etc after you roll.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your dives whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

Ronnie Cheyne

Living in the water District has its perks, such as having a platter full of fish and the genes of a fish. Ronnie hates fish. Diving from cliff edges was a thing of his and doing it in front of an audience for their own amusement with the chance of getting a piece of metal around his neck, Ronnie would not let the chance slip through his hands.It also came with the perks of seeing other competitors in tight little trunks and swimwear, a great sight for his sore eyes.

Although right now he has to focus on his dives, rather than swooning over the Hammerfell that he will be competing against.

Climbing up to the board, the cheers of the crowd hurry him up the steps, the home crowd has really been roaring for the District Four representatives. Peeking over the edge for a short glimpse, Ronnie exhales, tossing himself into the pool.

Clouse Greenfield stepped up to the platform, eagerly awaiting the moment when skin would touch water and he would be surrounded by the blissful blue of the pool. He hoped Brutus was in the stands, though more likely than not, he was off pummeling someone into the ground in one of his own events. Today was wrestling, wasn't it?

Luckily, the twins weren't facing each other. It was much easier to compete knowing that one's success wouldn't come at the cost of the other's. When deciding their events, the two had easily decided to give Brutus the more violent events, whereas Clouse had eagerly taken on the aquatic ones.

Now, Clouse's moment had come. He stretched stretched, jumped up and down a few times, then ran forward and dove down into the welcoming waters.

The water is vast, a huge turquoise mouth eager to swallow me up. I have never seen so much of it, wide, deep, warm, waiting for a dive. Its surface is still and flat, electric with potential, like the audience sitting above it, poised with that same potential as they itch to applaud. It's in me as well, I can feel it in my taut diaphragm, my hot cheeks, my twitching, tingling extremities. I ache to climb the latter, and then I ache to fall; to shatter the perfect surface of the water, to release the baited breath of the spectators, to exhaust the tension in my muscles, breaking all those potentials at once.

I am more afraid of the landing than the tumble, which I know cannot be said for all my competitors. I have spend my whole teenagehood learning to fall not only with grace but with security, a skill I have had to use multiple times. It was the way I climbed and fell, turning through the air like a bird of prey swooping for a meal, that first got the attention of one of the most prestigious Career families in the District. Or at least, at the time. I don't associate myself with the Morenos by choice anymore, but seeing as their surname is mine by law, it was those parents, not my theatrical family, who received the invitation to come and watch me perform those same feats here. It strikes me as incredible that, even though these Games are not the ones we consider our national pride, us competitors are still seen as mere objects, unable to make our own choices - even in the friends we wish to accompany us from home.

As my name rings over the tannoy, I begin my path to the ladder. The audience goes wild, a combination of cheers for the sport, hisses for the surname, and confused applause for the odd, small girl with the tousled blue hair who even the Career trainers from One have never heard of. A surprise, I hope, considering how nimbly I scale the ladder. If only they could score me for that. My head doesn't swim at the top, in fact vertigo barely stirs at all. Instead of the water below, the diving board above, I envisage a metal rigging, hung heavy with stage lights like a tree in Autumn, and below me nothing more than sheets of billowing chiffon - a stage ocean. All I have to remember is that, however I tumble, I'm going to land on my hands.

Lunar phases cycle to each morning.

Sometimes, I can taste the sugar in my veins, the crystal aftermath of headaches heavy on my breath. Dawn breaks – and I fucking choke. The morning catches in my throat. And sometimes I forget why I do this to myself, why the sunlight stings my eyes, why a waterlogged head sloshes around me with each step. And then I remember,

I have never been good at losing.

Maybe I don’t push hard enough. Maybe I don’t want it bad enough. Maybe it’s because falling hurts more sober, and I can only do this again and again if the night is soft and hazy, mornings shoved away to become that pounding ache.

But there is no stopping. No quitting. Never losing.
Or, maybe I’m just really fucking dramatic and I should dive already.

Ten metres high on the diving board, there’s ten metres to fall. There’s ten metres to fuck up. And I know the competitors are watching, competitors with giant fucking names and histories in the Games. I know my parents are watching. I am a career, and I know someday, everyone is supposed to be watching.

But that’s the goal, at least.

I breathe. Count seconds. In District Four, there’s never anywhere to go but the water.

Katrina was nervous, though she never would have admitted it. She was built for speed and endurance, not fancy tricks. But with having missed sign-ups for the decathlon, she had had to pick several other events to compete in. Diving wasn't difficult, but competitively, she didn't feel like it was one of her strong points. She ascended the ladder and chided herself for psyching herself out.  She was from dsitrict four, wasn't she? She lived and breathed the water. She was a career,wasn't she? She lived and breathed for competition. Heaven help anyone that was in her way. There was a Moreno and a Hammerfell, both names from other districts she knew well. If she had gotten a chance to, she would have said something about them needing to get ready to lose, just like their families did in the games.  

Maybe it was cruel, but in competition, you needed every edge you could get. So who gave a flying fuck about a rival's feelings? Katrina gave the crowd her biggest smile, and after an experimental jump, she was off, heading down to the water, making a mental note to ensure that if the first dive was good, then the other two needed to be great.

I'm alive.

I remember a time when that simple phrase didn't feel real. I was lying on a hard cot in one of the medical tents knocking on death's door. All hope was gone, and my own mother didn't even think I would survive. But from the magical hands of a wonderful doctor, and the grace of god, I am still alive. I survived when nobody thought I would.

Yet recovering wasn't easy.

But I pushed myself through it because I wanted to survive. I wanted to do things on my own instead of having other people have to help me, and I learned that the water helped me heal. Not only had it taken away all that I worked for, but it gave me a new beginning.

I'm still not sure why I agreed to participate in the Olympics. Perhaps it isn't for myself. Nothing compares to secretly watching the men as they swim around in their spandex. Yet I realize I'll never be one of them. I'll never have a chance because I'm just a scrawny, good for nothing, Krearns. I'm nothing compared to Jay, Mason, or Someith. They're legends. Much braver than I'll ever be.

I sigh softly as I climb up the ladder onto the platform, and my eyes scan around turning from person to person. Muffled roars echo through my ears - it's time, however, I don't know what I'm doing.

I just hope something good comes from it.

Panem's Third Olympic Games

    Time twists into a forgotten forefront as Fox stands watching her fellow divers take their three perilous plunges. Visions of a time long ago end with her neck laced in breath taking silver, but for Fox it was not enough. These Games Fox finds herself determined with more passion than before to claim the gold she just narrowly missed. To claim the fame she tried so hard to achieve. So much of her training was being compiled into this very moment yet all she could think to herself was: Remain beautiful. 

    Above all Fox was a fanatic about the divine beauty of things, her training was always in the finest fashion. Her spins, twirls and twists, they all were done with the upmost refinement and precision. Back home Fox settled for nothing short of stunning, and here she would carry the same values. Here she had begun to make a name for herself, and it would be here she etched it into the history of Panem. Fox Arctic one of the most beautiful athletes that ever existed.

    When the time came and Fox found herself standing upon the platform once again she didn't even think. She let the glitter of her icy blue diving suit dazzle the crowd as her snow white smile illuminated the entire center. All the years had led back to this moment, and Fox refused to let it be scraped away into the wind like she had seen so many others before her do. Then she let herself fly in the most beautiful way she could make her body do. She was a swan a top a world in need of her elegance.

Another chance. I know diving isn't exactly my forte, but I have to give it a shot. How hard can it be? Standing on a platform performing different type of diving moves? I just have to beat out all the other participants gathered around, and I know I can do it. My entire life has been devoted to proving that I am the king, and the better I do here in the Olympics, the more I can show that. But it's still not the same as wearing a crown when the hunger games end. It'll never be the same, and I'll never forgive the boy for stealing my place. I shake my head before climbing the stairs, and once I'm on the platform, I know it's time to shine once more.

Diving 10m Platform

I hadn't done as well as I had hoped when it came to swimming earlier on in the day, so I was banking on doing better in diving to get my satisfaction from the Olympics. I was in my swimsuit and ready to go. Although, I was a bit nervous this time, as I knew that there was always the chance that I would mess up terribly. When I talked to one of my friends before the Olympics started, she told me I would do fantastically, and so far, that hadn't been true.

When my name rang through the area, I took my place. No one really knew the name, so there weren't as many cheers as some other people had gotten, however, I knew that my family and friends were part of the few cheers that had existed. I had my hair tied back in a pony tail, and I was in my place, ready to dive.

Does, Says, Thinks

Swimming was something you were good at. You had proven that earlier today with the medal you had won in the 100m Freestyle. Diving, however, was not something you had thought you were proficient in. Now, waiting to make your dives, you felt this more than ever. There were so many better divers than you, and a number of them were here. The goal, though, was to practice and to try and to improve. Next time the olympics came around you would be back and you would aim to do even better then. For now, you would be fine with having made it here, and winning a medal to boot.

The ocean, rough as it always was, was so much more forgiving when you dove into it. Here, though, ten meters above the pool, you gazed into still clear water and hoped you weren't about to splash the judges. There was no help for it, though, at this point. You couldn't back out now.

With one deep breath, you sprang from the platform and twisted your body to perform the first dive. From here, it was only two more times.

The world spins for a moment, a breathless moment where you feel like your flying, and then the water rushes up to greet you and swallow you whole.

The surface of the water rips open and you are home.
