[Day 1] Decathlon: High Jump

DECATHLON: HIGH JUMP

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is somewhat more difficult than the other events. Feel free to roleplay your character making their jumps, warming up, etc as you would normally. However, instead of pasting a single code in once, you will be pasting different codes in for success/failure at different heights. You will have three chances to clear each height.


Everyone clears the 1.50m jump automatically. You get three tries to clear each following jump, with the odds getting worse for success each time. You will need to edit your post each time for multiple jumps / to add the next jump. BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR JUMPS. Here are the odds:

The competitor with the highest successful jump wins this event. Heights for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

Nevah has had a rather exciting year, even amongst all the devastation that has wrecked her District. While everyone was helping rebuild each other’s homes, she has been perfecting her techniques in everything. News of the Olympics games persuaded her to push her training forwards; it was her time to represent the family properly. In the past, her relatives have brought medals home but this time it was her chance to bring a great bundle along home with her. Newt seems to have the idea but Nevah finds it cute that he is even trying. Just leave it to me darling, make sure you don’t get chlorine in that ‘eye’ Something that she had told him before the events began.

Obviously Nevah had to sign up for the biggest event of the games, the decathlon. She really enjoyed using projectiles in the centre and the javelin and discuss allowed her to show off her skill. However today she has to show off her weaker aspects, the high jump. Nevah isn’t exactly the tallest competitor, which gives her a slight disadvantage although she has been described as a spring lamb before, not that she has ever seen a live lamb in her life.

As soon as her name is blasted through the stadium, Nevah stands at the line, warming up her muscles. Reciting back to herself as she prepares mentally, Nevah quickly imagines how she is to jump and use all the not so perfected techniques; the scenario being projected in her head. “You can’t show yourself up, especially in front of Enzo.” She whispers to herself.

Running towards the apparatus, it’s only her that she can blame if she totally flops (although Newt seems the ideal candidate to put the blame on.) She has three chances to get herself over the jump, she can do it in one.

12.61s—and I thought the only way was up. All the time has brought me is more pressure. If I am going to have any chance to medal in this ten event contest, I have to perform.

Not just try and, well, fail.

An announcer calls my name through a microphone and I'm motioned towards the high jump zone. Bar set at 1.55m and slowly getting higher, I squint at the obstacle and decide upon a decent speed and trajectory, hoping it would be sufficient enough to make it over.

The audience keep their eyes peeled and I feel the weight of Four on my shoulders. I'd never felt this before, only in that one nightmare I'd had where I woke up in a sweat and forced myself to sleep it off within the safety of my bed covers—but that wasn't real.

It was just a figment of my imagination which wasn't real and remains false. Still, it somehow manages to be real enough to leave a scar on my mind. I can't forget it, no matter how hard I try.

Axe to eye, shiver down my spine but I'm still awake and alive.

I shake off the memory, allowing me to continue with the competition. I throw up an arm and line it up with the bar, before leaning back and running at it.

I'd scraped a couple points by the skin of my teeth in the sprint, so what do I have to lose?

You turned away when I looked you in the eye,
And hesitated when I asked if you were alright,
Seems like you're fighting for you life,

Throughout my entire life, I've been turned away. Never good enough. Never strong enough. I'm just a worthless being - my parents and sister make sure I know it ever single day simply because I refuse to train for the hunger games. My training is turned elsewhere. I want to help people. Just seeing a broken child smile once more means the world to me, yet it's something many won't understand until they've been there.

My family is the reason I signed up for this. I have to prove them wrong. This is my one chance to prove that I'm worth more than they're giving me credit for. Perhaps if I can come home holding a medal in my hands, they'll leave me alone.

I doubt it.

A heavy sigh falls from my lips as I look around the huge stadium built specifically for this. The stands are filled with people. I can hear them clapping, chanting, calling for something to celebrate. Cameras record every movement. I wonder what people will think when they see me attempt to not make a fool of myself. All I can do is do my best, but what if my best isn't good enough? What if I go home empty handed and my family makes fun of me?

Mom and dad didn't believe I was coming.

But here I am.

And all I can do now is prove them wrong.

I take my place before inhaling the largest breath as I possibly can, and when I exhale, I know it's time to begin. My eyes glare at the bar realizing it's all about height and angle.

Jumping is easy.

Clearing the bar, on the other hand, is difficult.

♚CIRQUE ISOSCELES♚

She'd been dreading this event, although she felt reasonably buoyed by her time in the 100m Sprint. Not enough for first, but not shabby either, and in the Decathlon, every event counted. The one thing she really hated about the High Jump was the down time: she had to watch all of the competitors ahead of her go, one by one, as they cycled through the heights. It was boring and nerve inducing, somehow. After only a few jumps, Lux Pelotte established herself as the girl to beat.

And Cirque Isosceles had come to compete.

This is a WIP depending on Royal Sass ; ) and how Cirque does tbh!

Yusei Rhee Eighteen | Male | District One

Though I went into the sprint thinking I'd do horrible, I churned out a good time. Not sure how good I did. No matter. I can feel the audience's stares. They saw me have a good time in the sprint. They'll be keeping their eye on me in this event to see if I can keep up my luck or if it'll falter. I don't want too much attention on me. I'm only here to see if I can get her to notice me again. I saw her fail the jump early on along with another competitor. Another happened to get by a good amount of the jumps. I can only hope that I perform well enough. My heart beats faster and faster as I get ready to take off. With one last breath, I run.

"Says"

Excitement went through all of District Four. News of an olympics had spread like wildfire through everyday life. People screaming of their favorites to be at the olympics. Lyons, Hammerfells, Morenos, La Torre, and so many other names. His last name included, but there wasn't anything specific to it. Nothing interesting except that he heard a girl scream that she wanted to see the Krearns and all of their craziness. No one was crazy. Only Mason had been. Crazy and mental. Seeing visions of dead people like they were there with him. Enzo wasn't like that. He was normal in every way, except for the fact that he was a Krearns. A name with expectations and never good ones, unless you were Nevah fucking Krearns. Then it was all about Nevah. "Did you hear? Nevah Krearns is competing this year in the decathlon!" No one spoke of him, the boy whose leg had shattered.

As High Jump was the next event for him, everything inside of him flared in flames and anger. Nevah was nothing, but a girl who had talent and skills. Nothing he couldn't beat with sheer will power. Everything worked like a clock in the event. One by one they went up to the block, ready to go and yet here he was. Stretching before his turn. Height wasn't his weakness in anyway, unless it was in the fact that he was average. Only two males were in the Decathlon. Yusei and Enzo, two males that had to compete against all the females. The world was changing, just like Enzo was stretching the muscles and ligaments in his body. Preparing for the challenge ahead of himself.

"Enzo Krearns!" The crowd cheers in the way that they always do, his ears block it off within an instance. He reaches the block and mentally prepares himself for the jumps. His voice inside screams for him to do well in front of her. In front of Nevah Krearns, the girl that was praised everywhere she went. This was it for Enzo. THis was something he had to do, even if he failed. Enzo prepares himself. Three tries, one event, multiple heights. Let the Games begin.

She'd done reasonably.


Kicking herself in the ass, Jequirity made a close second in the 100m Sprints, only seconds after some white privileged male she'd assumed reigned from One. Though, she certainly performed far better than more of the majority, and for that the crowd applauded with cheers, screams, flowers, showered the young shawty in affection she truly deserved. For once in her life, she proved that a black woman with persistence originating from a background filled with hatred, prejudice and stereotypes could achieve more than others expectations.


"You're not my fucking daughter, you piece of shit!", her father cursed through alcoholic breath that ached the household. She was the oldest sister of the bunch, and the only one with her own vastly unique features. A black lions mane formed around from her hair and dark pigmented skin. It was clear from what the obvious human eye could tell - she didn't belong. Her Aryan siblings, laid blonde hair, and electric blue eyes that could shock the whole ocean of Four. 


"Yeah? Well you can go fuck yourself - sad ass excuse for a human and a mediocre stay at home father at that.", she spit. He swung. An outstretched palm grazed against her dark cheek. She screamed. Her throat burned and lungs formed a fire. A heart of stone forged from the fires. It was the next day and he'd sobered up, the rest was history. Her mother told her to pretend it hadn't happened, and she hadn't. Her mother loved her dearly, but Jequirity realized - she was apart of the problem.


Given the opportunity, she grabbed for it and the reach was vital.

She isn't sure if she can do this — but that doesn't really matter anymore, does it? It's not like she could back out of the event now, as she stands on the track waiting for the whistle, or just stand there and refuse to compete. (If she did, her parents would — she stops the thought there.) That would be even worse than failing, so she decides, with a grimace, that she'll just have to wade through it.

Cain sighs, half-hearted and tense, as she counts the number of hurdles laid out along the track. Too many is the number she comes up with. She shakes her head, trying to get rid of the negativity, but that's something that always seems to stay with her. Even when her honor in her family depends on it, as it does now.

When the whistle sounds, her heart leaps in her chest and she bolts forward, mustering all of her strength and determination.
