[Day 2] Decathlon: Javelin

DECATHLON: JAVELIN THROW

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character setting up for their throws, and then paste the code [*roll=980+6500] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a distance, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 6882 is read as 68.82 meters) Each participant will be measured by their best throw only, not their average distance or the sum of their throws.

The competitor with the furthest distance wins this event. Distances for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After you have rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction to each throw if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your throws whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

An absolute disaster. What is wrong with me? That four hundred metre sprint and I end up coming up well over the minute…If there was anyone I could blame, it would be Newt but I doubt he was even watching. Maybe it’s the heat, the orange orb in the sky; sucking all of the energy out of me…I never liked running anyway. But there are still so many events to go in the decathlon and I still have time to prove myself and get my family’s name into the spotlight for all the right reasons. I can’t lose my chill now, just one silly performance…I can pick it up.

And what a great event to pick it up in, the javelin. Projectiles, I claim to be my talent. So many times I have thrown blunts at Newt and hit the bulls-eye. I have even proven to the half blind twit that hitting the target is possible with just half vision, covering my eye and getting the knife stuck deep into the target. He is a complete and utter lump of uselessness. I can’t believe we shared the womb with each other at the same time; obviously I got all the best nutrients during our time in there. That’s why I came out after him, I scraped up all the best things needed to develop once he vacated.

Picking up the javelin, I look down the field. Three attempts I get and there are no excuses as to why I can’t get three good throws. I’ll just have to put the blame on Newt if I do, for disrupting my training…

Oblivion Reigns Eighteen| Female | District One

You turned away when I looked you in the eye,
And hesitated when I asked if you were alright,
Seems like you're fighting for you life,
But why? oh why?

All I've ever wanted is a chance to redeem myself. A chance to show that I can amount to something in the world, but every time I came close my parents pushed me down. They told me I'm not good enough while Renegade laughed in the corner. Many nights I cried myself to sleep because I thought my parents should love me. I thought they should care about me. No parent should ever push a child down so far into a deep valley with no way out. It was hopeless. The road was dark, yet I clawed my way into the light of the mountains. I still have more to climb, and I know the walk isn't easy, but it has been entirely worth my time.

Doing well here would hopefully allow my parents to leave me alone, and maybe Renegade would show some respect, but I doubt she ever will. She has made it clear that she hates me, and all I can do now is live for myself with no desire to please anyone else in the world.

A soft sigh leaves my lips as I lift a javelin into the air. I can do anything that I set my mind to. I repeat to myself over and over knowing how hard it'll be to overcome the obstacles standing in my way. But I won't let it knock me down. The corners of my lips twist into a smile as I feel the balance of the tiny spear resting in my hands. This is for fun, but I know, and I've seen how deadly the javelin can be when used as a weapon.

I take my place, and I block out the sounds of the crowd. I inhale a large breath allowing the air to fill my lungs, and when I exhale I step forward. It's time to put on a show.

L U X P E L O T T E

Various events are underway on the track, but on the field, my mind is set on throwing this javelin as far as possible.

Throwing seemed simple enough. It was similar to the crucial components of high jump; speed and trajectory were a lethal combination and would see the spear-like object fly through the air and edge me into first place. 

Yet like every event I'd competed in, it seemed a case of 'easier said than done'.

The Krearns girl sets out the mark to beat, her furthest throw marked and measured, coming back at 72.16m. It was her final throw that managed to pay off the most, and it seems almost a shame when Oblivion Reigns pulls a whopping 74.53m out of the bag and steals the lead.

It's another case of trying to achieve the impossible.

Taking my place on the small track, I thread the javelin between my fingers and eye up the sky. Running towards the thin white line drawn between the track and the field, my knees are higher than my expectations, but lower than those of my district.

And then, I let it go and watch it soar. 

"Fly," I whisper, frowning as it begins to sink towards the turf.

"Says"

Javelins. This was something that the Krearns had some skill in. Jay had gotten third in the original one. An accomplishment, but not the greatest accomplishment to have gotten. Jay could have gotten farther in the games, but only pure talent gets you so far. The world had taken him out of the picture. Enzo was the next generation. The true greatness of the Krearns that lived on. His name would be placed across the world as the greatest person in all of Panem. People would come from all over to face him in battle. To face him until they died. Enzo Krearns was the man who was stronger than anyone else. Nevah wasn't strong enough to beat him. Her sprint had been awful. Worse than his first one that he had failed. His laugh after the race brought a glare, but it didn't matter. Nemo had been proud. He caught his smile faster than anything else.

Everett was busy doing Beach Volleyball. A surprising event for his older brother. It must had been from the fact that his older brother had secrets of his own. Enzo couldn't focus on that now. He needed to do what he had to do. Enzo watched Nevah go, the javelin not going as far as the javelin Oblivion had thrown. A chuckle escapes his lips. The world had something against Nevah that day. As her javelin hadn't sailed as much as Oblivion's. Enzo would beat Nevah again, even if it was his last try. Enzo would beat Nevah and prove he was the best Krearns that there was. The only Krearns capable of killing twenty three tributes and ending lives of children. The laugh upon his lips, the world would cheer for his name. That's when the words of the announcer calls his name. His turn. The world was watching. Nemo was watching. Nevah was watching. And Enzo wouldn't fail, not again.

As he steps up to the place, preparing himself. A few quick stretches and rubbing his hands together to keep them warm and ready to launch the javelin with pure power. Strength didn't come from outside, it came from inside. Everyone was watching, waiting to see how Enzo would beat Nevah. How Enzo would survive another round and launch the javelin catching up to the rest. His failure was his strength. He runs up holding the javelin carefully in his hand. He launches it with all the strength he can. Nemo was watching. Nevah was watching. The world was watching. This was the moment of glory or failure. Enzo would survive either one, no matter what happened.

To say that her Day One performance has been disappointing would be the biggest understatement of the year. She couldn't eat dinner, tossed and turned in her bunk. Nothing made sense. How could she have come in dead last in one event and middle of the pack in another? Before dawn she was at the breakfast table, trying desperately to make up the calories. Her plate was a study in carbohydrates: a bran muffin, croissant, whole wheat toast with jam and whole grain cereal. She ate without tasting, shoveling it all in.

If she had any chance today to redeem herself, it was in the sprint, not the throw. She stretched and willed herself to find a more positive head space before she picked up the javelin.

But she never found it.

I did well yesterday. I had to because I wanted to make my family proud. Somewhere beyond the world I live in, I know they are watching me, and I know they want me to do what I can to keep going in the direction I've chosen for life. It's not about winning a medal from this, yeah, it would be nice, but I don't know how I feel about it. I just want to give it all I have and see what happens, and that's what I did yesterday. In the high jump, and the running. I never gave up because I know that I'm strong. I know what I'm capable of. But today is a new day, and I can't go out being cocky thinking I'm going to win - someone could beat me, and where would a cocky attitude get me? Everyone deserves an equal chance, and I want to just go out and have fun. I lift a javelin trying to get a feel for it. It's like a staff except one end is sharp, and it's definitely much lighter, but I can see how I can use it. A soft grin twist across my face as I take my place trying to ignore the chants of the crowd. I'm not doing this for them. I'm doing this for me.

Moving to the next event, Jequirity smiled and waved to passerby's who'd paid their compliments for her performance. 3 whole seconds faster than the girl who'd placed after in the 400m Sprint, she knew her late night training had paid off in the long run. The passion filled her bones, and though she ached in every inch of her body it wasn't enough to settle the spark. She fluffed her lion's mane and prowled to the Javelins, watching one by one as the other athletes picked one up, threw, and repeated. She knew this event could go either way for her, she hadn't trained specifically for Javelins.

"Jequirity", they announced, and she strutted to the first javelin and concentrated.
