[Day 3] Decathlon: Discus Throw

DECATHLON: DISCUS THROW

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the third Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character setting up for their throw, and then paste the code [*roll=825+4100] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a distance, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 4509 is read as 45.09 meters) Each participant will be measured by their best throw only, not their average distance or the sum of their throws.

The competitor with the furthest distance wins this event. Distances for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After you have rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction to each throw if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your throws whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

You turned away when I looked you in the eye,
And hesitated when I asked if you were alright,

The chains holding me back and finally been broken. A key unlocked it, and my parents aren't around to tie it back. A soft smile twists across my face spreading from ear to ear. When I go home, I'll have to listen to them, to hear them complain about how their good for nothing child succeeded in the Olympic games. I'll hear them talk about how Renegade would've done better, that it's not the actual hunger games. It doesn't matter. All that matters is that I'm giving my best, and I'm performing to the top of my ability.

My eyes turn towards the coach trying to remember what all I was taught. His lessons went according to plan in the individual shot put yesterday, and I'm sure they'll do the same today. He offers a nod of the head, and I'm moving forward. Every emotion flees my body. Sweat rolls from my brow. Hair standing on end, eyes wide, I finally take my place. My hand wraps around the disc, and I'm ready to go, ready to perform to the best of my ability.

I take a deep breath trying to calm my nerves - it isn't like everyone in Panem is watching. My cheeks burn bright as I spin around. Not once, not twice, but a third time gaining as much momentum as possible.

I pray the disc doesn't fall at my feet or fly behind me in the wrong direction because everyone would laugh at me, and I wouldn't be able to show my face anywhere in public ever again.

Again her performance was dismal, knocking down one of the hurdles and gaining a penalty point. What was the matter with her? Had she become swarmed in her strong headed persona that she was losing all of her consistency? Although she was being consistent enough to do incredibly rubbish in all of her events. Newt would no longer be the useless member in her family, it’d be her. All these years teasing Newt for being a failure were catching up to her, was this ripred’s punishment? Well if ripred is punishing her, she isn’t going to learn from their lessons but fight it. She wasn’t going to be defeated by some god, it was now or never, she had to step up her game quickly.

Another throwing event , the discuss gave her some hope, she could learn from what she had done wrong in the javelin and put that into this event. Projectiles will always be her thing and a little hiccup will not deter her from that skill. Glancing to the crowd, she could hear her name float around in their conversations. They weren’t discussing her famous family but her failed to attempts to win at least one event, the disappointment of the famous family in District Four. He job was to bring more fame to the family name and well, she was helping to ruin it.

Picking up the discus, she went through her ritual of imagining of she would execute the throw. Everything precise to the very detail, how much would she spin her body around? When was the right time to release the discus? Hidden within the net that surrounded her, she finally conjured up a plan that she hoped would bring her out of the dark.

Day 2 had been a great day for Enzo, watching his cousin look at him in annoyance made his day the best in a long while. The world was running out of good days, especially for a Krearns. The world had watched Someith do well and get so close to winning, yet fall. Their name wasn't rubbed through the dirt, but there was still no respect completely for their name, only pride and praise. Respect had to be earned by winning the games, just like it had to be earned by getting a medal in the Olympics. Everett had failed in Beach Volleyball, he was nothing more than a weakling brother who shared their name and parents. Nemo could have done better than Everett in a game of getting a ball to go over the net and score points. Everett was failing their name, first getting beaten by a Hammerfell and then failing at a simple game of volleyball. Enzo laughed at him once he heard from Everett of what happened. Nemo had asked him politely to stop, even though Enzo wasn't going to stop, not ever.

As he stands waiting to throw the discus as far as he could, he can only think of Nevah's annoyance. He had beat her in three of the four events so far. A medal couldn't make me him happier than he was right then. Nevah was annoyed with his great performance, but the question was could he hold it up. He probably couldn't since he was a failure in his own eyes. Nemo though sat in the stands waiting for his turn. Everett probably by his side with some sort of food to keep them full and focused on his own performance. Whatever he got out in the event wouldn't matter. Nemo would still cheer in excitement and tell him he did well, and that meant the world to Enzo. Nevah may think he's weak or terrible, but in his own heart he knew that as long as Nemo thought he was the greatest, that'd be enough for him.

He steps up for his turn. The discus feels heavy in his grasp. He's been practicing the form and stance he needed to do for it since he had been getting ready. Stretches and energized movements making him loose and ready to throw. Everything in the event was chaos, the people, the crowd, the event, the discus. None of it was anything he would ever want to do, but he was going to do it anyways, even if it meant him failing and dropping so many places down. Once it was time, he threw like his life depended on.

She'd more than lost the last few events; she'd lost her motivation. Even a pep talk with her mentor wasn't enough to set Cirque to rights. She knew she'd fallen too far behind to medal, and if she wasn't going to medal, what even was the point in participating? She glared at anyone who approached her at dinner and breakfast, even Yusei. How could she talk to him when she sucked so very badly?

Day 3 was always going to be her worst day. Her arms weren't strong enough for the discus throw and while she had legs for the Hurdles, she didn't have the rhythm. With her newfound glare fixed in place, she waited for her name to be announced, and then flung one discus after the other, hardly caring at all where they landed.

(Except that she cared very much).

The discuss throw feels like it should be simple, but I know it's probably much harder than it seems. I'm sure it's no harder than throwing a javelin because that was easy, but I didn't do as well as I needed. I've been asked many times why I'm doing this, and my answer has remained the same. It's for my family. They may be gone, but I still live for them. I've made mistakes, but I do my best to learn from them. I've made many. I exhale softly as I lift the disc. I hold it in my hand trying to get an accurate weight of it, and then I spin around like I was shown, and I throw hoping I do well because this is a performance I can't fail.

Ready, aim, fire.

Like a gun. Simple process in the head, sure, but it is the execution which will put me in the history books. Like most of the other events (hurdles excluded), it seemed simple enough. 

Enough.

Perhaps this false security I give myself isn't really needed after all. Telling myself that I'll achieve great things just so that I can avoid the wrath of my parents is no way of truly motivating oneself; it's so much deeper and harder to do.

Discus throw and I set my hopes high with a ready, aim, fire but I know it's wrong of me to do so. 

This has all made me realise how much I yearn for comfort; to be wrapped within my bed sheets fearing the dark and to fall into the arm's of a stranger just to feel love. Feigned love is the best kind, because there is no attachment.

Attachment--maybe that's just it. Letting go in order to break free; it makes sense.
