Marina awoke to her mother pounding her fist against her door, shouting that she had missed her alarm. Immediately, the girl shot up. She was going to be late to school, and that certainly wouldn't go over well! The brunette rose from her bed and got ready as quickly as she possibly could. Skipping breakfast, she put her shoes on and headed out the door, then running down the street in the direction of the school building.

When Marina arrived at school, she was barely on time. Had she taken the time to eat breakfast, she would have been late for sure. Entering her first class, she sat down in her seat next to a girl that she didn't know all too well, and didn't know the name of. Marina was always a good student, so she was paying attention as the teacher began class almost immediately after she had gotten there.

The teacher was going over the history of the Games, such as how and why they were started. Of course, just about everyone in Panem knew why the Games were in place at that point. They were originally to show the Capitol's power over the Districts after the rebellion. Now, however, they seemed more like they were just a yearly death pageant for the entertainment of Capitolites.

Each student was given an assignment for class that day. They were to do a project on a past tribute of their choice from any District or Games. Included in the project had to be things such as who killed them if they didn't win the Games, and interesting facts about them during their time in the Games.

The tribute that Marina had selected was Andesite Obsidian from the 72nd Hunger Games. There wasn't much to go on with him, as he died first, but she liked a challenge, since most of her schoolwork was so easy for her.

After the students were given time to work on their projects for a bit during the class, the teacher went back to the lesson. Of course, when it came to just about any class, there was always someoen who felt the need to crack a joke. Although, it certainly wasn't Marina.

District 4 ♕ 17

As per usual, Chloriphina Sills was using her history class time to pun storm. Although Language arts is her favorite subject, history is a close second. The opportunity for puns is always tremendous. Especially today.
Today her teacher was discussing the history of the games. As far as punning opportunities(or pun-portunities) go, the topic could not be more perfect. Chloriphina Sills is a girl who believes that morbid humor is the best form of comedy
"Ok class For an upcoming assignment, you will all be doing a project on past tributes." The teacher says," You will pick one tribute to write about. Maybe write about a character that you've missed. There are many a tribute that I myself have missed".
This is the moment Lori had been waiting for. In her eyes, time slows down and all she sees is her opportunity to pun.
She throws up her hand, but doesn't wait to speak," excuse me, sir, but I was just wondering if your aim was getting any better?" She then makes her most devilish innocent child face. The teacher starts out confused and then the emotions showing on his face slowly change.[\font]

It had taken Marina a moment to understand the joke that the girl sitting not too far from her had made, and a small smile crossed Marina's face. She tried to hide it from the teacher and didn't want to laugh, since she didn't want to get in trouble. The other girl had asked the teacher if her aim was getting better, which was something that Marina didn't quite understand at first. That is, until she realized that their teacher had something about missing the tributes.

Missed. Aim. Haha. thought Marina. It was a cheesy joke, but she still thought it was a little bit humorous. When the class ended and the bell rang, rather than leaving the classroom immediately, Marina went over to the girl who had made the joke. She was pretty sure that the girl's name was Chloriphina, but she normally heard her get called Lori. Therefore, Marina went with the safe bet and when trying to get her attention, called her Lori. Maybe she could make another friend.

"Hey, Lori! I'm Marina. I noticed that you like to make jokes." Marina said to the girl with a slight laugh and a smile on her face. "It was actually kind of funny, what you said. I'm sort of slow at figuring out jokes, so it took me a minute, but you're actually rather clever with what you say." Marina complimented Lori.

The brunette pushed her hair out of her face, and glanced back over to the teacher who was now at his desk. It appeared that when the joke was said, the man teaching the class had a slight look of confusion on his face, however, it turned to a small sign of amusement shortly after. The class had gone rather well, and the past tribute that Marina had decided to focus her project on was Iris Flower-Oak from the 73rd Hunger Games. Iris had come in second place in the Games, and aside from her own District's tributes, that had been who Marina was rooting for from the start.

It was good, though, to get her mind off of schoolwork with a joke from someone in the class. Humor was a nice relief from the stress that school and projects often caused for Marina. Lori seemed like a good potential friend, and Marina hoped that she could get to know her a bit better. It was often quite difficult for Marina to make friends, but she was never sure why. Hopefully this opportunity for a new friendship wouldn't pass her by. This girl was funny, after all, and it would be good to have some daily, or at least rather frequent bouts of humor in her life.

Pleased that the teacher had Been amused her clever word play, Lori replied to the girl who had complimented her, "Hey Marina! It's nice to meet you". Lori then laughed and said "Im glad you liked my pun, but not as glad as I am that the teacher liked it. Did you see his face, at first? I thought he was going to murder me."

She quickly glances at Marina to see her response but, the girl seemed to be thinking of something else. Lori thought that the girl was probably thinking about their school assignment, which, Lori realized, she should also probably be doing. Maybe she should just go home, since this was her last class of the day, and work on it.

But they had days to do their assignment, and Lori was good at last minute writing. Friend making however was not something she was good at and now may be her only chance.

Lori seemed pleased to be acquainted with Marina, as her laughter showed that she was satisfied with the situation. The girl had said that she was glad that Marina had liked her pun. That was a good thing. Marina often worried that people just didn't want her to talk to them. Therefore, it was nice that Lori had appreciated the compliment on her joke. Then, the blonde girl continued, saying that she was especially glad that the teacher liked it, due to the way he initially reacted with the look on his face. In her words, she'd thought he was going to murder her. Marina thought that Lori's wording was a bit funny.

Although, when Marina as going to say something, she ended up getting distracted by something else in the room, and lost her train of thought. She'd seen something moving outside the window that caught her attention. Then, though, she realized that she'd stopped paying attention to Lori, and returned her thoughts to their conversation that they had been having before. She spoke to Lori again.

"Oh, haha, sorry, I got distracted," she apologized. Then, she continued, "Yeah, I wouldn't have had the guts to joke around with the look he had on his face, to be honest with you. You're pretty funny."

Then, Marina paused for a moment. Class was over, and they had a project to do. They were allowed to choose their partners, so she figured she may as well ask Lori. It would be a good chance to make a new friend.

"Hey, do you want to work together on the project? We could head over to my house and work on it, since class is over now," the girl suggested. She hoped that her new acquaintance would be up for it, and that she didn't come off as asking too suddenly.
