I was using this song for a post recently, and I thought it would make a nice spark for a D12 group of characters. The "plot" would be based on Appalachian folklore and folk belief.
"Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Remember me to the one who lives there,
For once she was a true love of mine."
The plot would feature four characters named Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme Scarborough. They might be siblings, otherwise related, or just connected by their main feature: All of them are somewhat strange or mysterious. People might believe they have some sort of supernatural wisdom or magical powers. Obviously they don't, but they still carry features that unnerve people around them by falling in line with old superstitions. Because of this, the four share a tiny home set apart from the rest of the people, and their interactions with the residents of D12 are delicate at best. They act like a family, even if they are not blood related.
(Also, these might not be their original names)
Parsley, 18
Parsley Scarborough works as a midwife. She was taught by her grandmother until the old woman passed away, and then took over her practice. People are spreading rumors about her work.
Sage
Taken by Kaplan
Ages and genders of the other three are up to the players. Some possibilities for features:
Evil Eye - having a split pupil, mismatched eyes, or otherwise an unnerving gaze, the person would be feared as being capable of cursing people by looking at them
Witchcraft - the character knows about "fending off" illnesses, bringing good or bad luck, performing "love magic" or finding lost things by means of age-old folk rituals. Most of them are useless, which the character may or may not know, but people are drawn to the at least as much as they fear them
Fairy doctor - the character has a knack for herbs and folk medicine, and rumor says they are communicating with fairies. They may or may not be spreading the rumor themselves, or actively fighting against it, while also practicing simple healing
Bad Luck - the person somehow ended up being notorious for bad luck. They may be a klutz, accident-prone, or just genuinely unlucky - but whatever the case, people now believe that it is dangerous to spend time around them. They may have some sign of bad luck they can't get rid of.
