[Day 5] Swimming: Backstroke

SWIMMING: 100M BACKSTROKE

Welcome to the 100m Backstroke tournament of the third Panem Olympic Games! The swimming pool is located within the aquatics center, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the pool for your race, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready to begin the race, and then paste the code [*roll=1200+6200] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 5000 is read as 50.00 seconds)

The competitor with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

None of her teammates had even come close to her time in the relay, but they’d still managed to come out on top. Granted, maybe it was because some of the other teams had members that didn’t show, but a win was a win, and it was another gold medal under her belt, so she didn’t care about the specifics. Maybe she’d even look for whassisface and find a way to celebrate. The one with the long name that she hadn’t bothered to remember had contributed more to their little team than the other kid or Mayor Perch (hell, she’d been convinced that the Mayor’s abysmal time was going to sink their chances at the gold), so she was willing to give him a small benefit of the doubt that he wasn’t a complete waste of space and might even be halfway interesting.

Of course, before that, she needed to finish off the backstroke event. It was the last one she was competing in, so afterwards she’d have a lot of time to kill until the medal ceremony. Luckily for her teammates, that’s didn’t include actual killing. Katrina huffed and readied herself alongside the other competitors, belatedly recognizing one of them as the other kid that had been on her team, the one that had done better than the mayor but worse than the one she was thinking about looking for. Perhaps she’d find a reason to throttle him once the event was over; which reminded her, she still had to find Crayola Krearns and sock her in the face.

With that cheerful thought in mind, she launched herself to the sound of the shot, looking forward to some downtime, and hopefully, another medal.

Charm Jinx
Swimming: Backstroke

There was absolutely no way that Charm would allow her brother, Spear Jinx, to have done better than her, even though it was in a different Olympic event. Neither of them had won medals so far, and day five was their last chance. She didn't want him to win a medal if she didn't. It was time for Charm's last day at the Olympics, and since this was her last event, she wanted to do really well. If she didn't do her absolute best, she knew she'd be kicking herself about it later. She wasn't too concerned about getting the gold, although that would have been nice. Instead, she was more concerned in just doing the absolute best she possibly could, pushing herself to her limits.

Charm had always been a good swimmer, growing up in District Four. She did a lot of swimming in her free time, whether it was for enjoyment or for training. Today, doing the backstroke in competition didn't seem like it could be all to bad. She did sign up for it, after all. When the buzzer sounded for her to go, she splashed into the water and went off as fast as she knew how.

Aloes Lumiere

This is the second swimming event I'm taking part in. Backstroke is nice. At least I'll have a great opportunity to stare at the ceiling while I swim and count sheep, because I may not focus on breathing much, as my head will stick out of water.
I must do my absolute best and bring my district another medal. I must... but it's just so hard to concentrate on what I must do. I sigh quietly and hope that the habit of dreaming won't get in my way in this event.


I hear the shot, jump into the water and start swimming.

Water events have been on my side. The diving followed by the medley. Honestly I didn't think my time spent swimming in the ocean waves would pay off, but in the end it did. Today is the last day, the last chance to bring home another medal. Two have been claimed by me, but not just any medal. No, I bringing home two golds, and I can't wait to show the rest of the world that I'm not finished yet. For the first events, I was extremely nervous, but now a calm demeanor replaces the fear. Yet the sweat still saturates the palm of my hands as I look around at the competition. It's amazing just standing here knowing that I've done something good with my life. All the stereotypes can go away because I'm stronger than anyone has ever given me credit for. I might not be like Jay or Someith, but I feel I've definitely proven I'm worthy of being a Krearns.

A soft grin plasters to my face as I take my place on the starting platform. Just like before, all I want is a performance I'll cherish for ever. One I won't regret. Looking from person to person, I turn to the crowd throwing my hands up in the air matching the joyful cheers. And the moment the buzzer sounds, I'm diving into the water hoping to do my district and family proud.

A silver isn't good enough. I should be happy with it because I beat out many from district four, yet I can't bring myself to enjoy the prize. I should be the one carrying the gold, not the Krearns boy. And I see him standing in line for this event. I won't let him win again. I can't. I'll never live it down. I take a deep breath as I take my place. I look around from person to person, and I know this is a piece of cake. I can win this. I'll prove to them that district two is better than the other districts. The buzzer sounds, and I dive into the water hoping to do better than I did before.

I am not useless.

Perhaps if I repeat that to myself repeatedly it will make it true. Perhaps it comes from the idea of finally having some sort of belief in myself, or perhaps it’s just the naïve fairy tale you tell six year olds and I managed to grasp onto the straws holding my worth together. I am not useless, I am not useless. Keep telling myself that and it may become true, hopefully. I find myself tuning out the sounds of crowds and other competitors, I couldn’t even look at the scoreboard, made me feel sick when I saw the name Hammerfell etched next to mine on the screen. It doesn't matter who I'm racing, in the end useless is useless.

I take a breath, the tension practically tangible, in the silence I am as weightless as a feather.

When the pistol sounds everything begins drowning all over again.

Clouse took a deep breath for the final time as he stepped into the stadium for his final swimming event at the Olympic games. He was happy with his performance so far in the games, even though his past efforts had not given him the best results he was looking for. He was competing in his own district, which he knew was known for their excellent swimmers, and wanted to just show that that fact was true. He undressed down to his speedo and braced himself as he put on his goggles and swim cap. He stepped onto the diving board and started waking up his muscles as he waited for the final starting bell.

“On your mark” he stopped and knelt down.

“Get set” he took a final breath.
