[Day 5] Archery

ARCHERY

Welcome to the Individual Archery tournament of the third Panem Olympic Games! The archery complex is located alongside the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you all warm up with your coaches before your turn comes to shoot, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready for their shots, and then paste the code [*roll=10] without the asterisks THREE TIMES (you are taking three shots) into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. You will roll a number 1-10 on each dice, and that represents the number of points you got from your shot/where your arrow landed on the following target:

At the end of your shots, each of the points you scored will be added up, and I will continually update this post with the scores. After you roll, feel free to edit your post and roleplay your character actually making the shots and their reaction to it. But all of this should occur in ONE post, not multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

What was he thinking? Signing up for an event like this? Putting himself in the spotlight, having hundreds, if not thousands of strangers with their beady eyes on him. Why couldn’t he just say no to his father about the whole idea? His father had nagged him and his sister Genoa to sign up for an event and well Genoa of course, with her firm stubborn determination said…no. Why was Lochiel so incompetent that he could never say no? Through his stupidity, he has had himself hauled off to an entirely new District, without any familiar faces to guide him the way. His father didn’t even bother to accompany him; he only has his sister for moral support.

Fingering the bow, nerves begin to fill his veins. Why did you do this? Just calm down, pretend you’re at home. Glancing up at the crowds, he swallows a fair amount of saliva as the mass of spectators begin to worry him. All them people with their opinions, all them people to pull an embarrassing performance in front of. Biting his bottom lip, Lochiel sits slumped on a bench, waiting his turn.

As soon as his name is called over the tannoy system, his heart leaps into his throat as he forces his legs to carry him to the spot. Plucking an arrow up from the wrack, he loads his bow, pray to ripred that he doesn’t make a mess of everything.

It was such a lovely day. The birds were chirping. The wind was blowing ever so slightly. And the sun was shining! Its light hit every one of her competitors' arrows, and Molly found herself transfixed, staring unashamed at the pointy weapons flew through the arrows, casting sun shadows across her face. She could barely contain her joy as shiny after shiny glinted in the light. 

Molly knew she was there to compete, but all she wanted to do was take the arrows home with her, where she could look at them in the light whenever she wanted to. Alas, they were meant for the target before her, not her travel bag. As she notched the first arrow, Molly giggled to herself as the light it reflected landed right on her left eye. 

She let it fly and wasted no time introducing the rest of her arsenal to the target in the distance.

Luanna Xena
Archery

Luanna was excited to compete in archery. She had always been good at it when she was training in the training center back in District One. It was definitely a strong suit of hers, so she felt confident. She didn't let her confidence distract her, however. This was a competition, so she had to do her best, and not just expect everything to go as planned. When she got to her place as her name was called, Luanna went through the steps of proper shooting in her mind as she did it.

Extend your arm that's holding the bow, bringing the bow to the proper position. Nock your arrow, the index fletch in the proper position. Make sure your bow arm is turned out slightly so the string doesn't hit it when you shoot. Place your fingers on the string properly, and draw the bow string back to your anchor point. Close your non dominant eye for better focus if need be. Aim and release.

When Luanna saw how she did, she was somewhat disappointed. She had gotten a nine on the first shot, yes, which was good, but the following one and two made her feel pathetic. There was no way she was going to win any medals with that kind of score, and it frustrated her. Luckily, she didn't let her frustration show.

J A I M E

It's been months since his kingdom of glass had fallen to the waves that took it all away. The mangled bodies of his other sister, his mother, and his father still hide themselves within his mind, haunting his dreams with horrors and failures. They had been fine the day before, but as soon as the ocean wanted it's revenge on the district for sending it's queen to her death, nothing would ever be fine. Jaime Cheyne was nothing more than a lonely prince fumbling through life as a new boy who knew what greatness he had inside of himself. This was his new life living with other Cheynes, sleeping on couches for the fact that he didn't have a real bed anymore. Jaime Cheyne wasn't alone, but he wished that he had been given the chance to be alone, especially if it meant that Ronnie could have died in a painful way in the tsunami. The prince saw him as a disgusting man, but at the same time, he had watched Ronnie win medal after medal.

Archery. It wasn't exactly Jaime's absolute favorite event to have been able to do, but it was one that he was trained in. Something that had been given to him and he prospered in it for the times that he used a bow. Elegance of using the bow made his skin shiver in what little joy he could muster. Archery was something of beauty that had been given to their world. A calmness of it all. Jaime wasn't exactly the calmest person in the world, more of a hot head according to other Cheynes, but he still had a certain calm to himself. As he pulls back the string all he can see in the yellow is the face of Atticus Manor, the victor who he wanted to kill. As he aims, he tries to hit the very middle of the target, imagining Atticus' death from an arrow to the eye. The blood that would pool and the crown of thorns that Jaime wore grew and grew, until he releases the arrow, letting it fly. He did this again and again, heart beating in tune to his calmed anger.

The day had finally came upon her. The day her name will ascend to the top of the rankings. She had waited for it, enduring narcissistic District 4 girls and the stenches of those sweaty, loser careers from 1. She is a marble statue, dividing her from the other tributes. The steel grip on the handle of her bow tightened even more as the thoughts surged into their mind like an electrical charge, accompanied by a dosage of adrenaline. She is ready.

How hard can it be? I've watched people in the training center use a bow and arrow. While I haven't tried it out myself, I'm sure it's easy. Everything is easy. All I have to do is aim straight. Hah. I got this. Strutting through the area, I stop when I'm standing just shy of the bows. One of them has to be the perfect match for me. I lift a couple into the air measuring the strength, and I find the right one. My eyes narrow as I take my place behind the range, and I focus my gaze on the target. I place an arrow in the bow, and I aim carefully. I have to remember to be careful because I've seen the arrow fly back and hit people in the face in the training center, and I definitely don't want that to happen to me.
