[Day 5] Weightlifting

WEIGHTLIFTING

Welcome to the weightlifting tournament of the third Panem Olympic Games! The weight room is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to begin, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character preparing to list, and then paste the code [*roll=150+100] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a three-digit number that will correspond to a weight in lbs, which is read EXACTLY AS IS. (Eg. 135 is 135 lbs, no decimals added.

The competitor with the highest weight wins this event. You will have three tries to lift, and your highest weight lifted will be taken.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

Weightlifting

Marcasite Obsidian, brother to a tribute of the 72nd Hunger Games, Andesite Obsidian, was about to compete in a competition of his own. This competition, however, wouldn't result in death for anyone in it. That was the part about it that made Marc a bit more interested in trying it out. This was weightlifting; a test of his physical strength. For a sixteen year old boy, he was surprisingly strong, so he told himself he'd do well, whether that turned out to be true or not. Although, there were quite a few people lined up that appeared to be stronger-looking than he was, so he did have some doubt in his mind about how good his performance would be.

When he got to the weights, he prepared himself to lift. He was prepared, and hoped that he could show that he wasn't a weak individual. One, two, three- lift!

Two gold medals out of the two events that I've been in. It's hard to believe. Never once did I imagine myself as the person to win. All my life I've been the scrawny, good for nothing Krearns. A child who didn't deserve to live because of my views on life. Mother and Father haven't heard from my lips my desires, and maybe now I can get them to understand the fears and anxieties lingering inside. Nobody wants their family to abandon them, and that's something I'm terrified of. If they found out -

I refuse to think about it.

Weightlifting probably isn't something I'm good at. I have no muscles because I don't train much. Fighting is wrong, and becoming stronger to kill people only makes matters worse, but I will try. I've spent the last few days trying to put on as much muscles as I can. To be completely honest, the only reason I signed up for this event is to watch the manly men strut around the stage before flexing their muscles as they lift the weights into the air. Yet I still have a chance to prove myself. A chance to lift as much as I possibly can. Maybe then I can get someone to notice me.

My eyes close as I walk onto the stage, and I stop in front of the weights wondering how a scrawny person like myself could manage to lift any of these. Wiping the sweat from my hands, I grab a hold of the weights remembering to lift with my legs and not my back.

Weightlifting. The event I've been waiting for all week to do. My leg 4x100 relay should have been much better, but it wasn't. However, this I've been training for ever since I started training for the games. This was my event. I'm gonna do well in this. Better not let myself down again. I get behind my weight and look at the competitions. Scoffing, I get ready to lift. I bet I can beat all of them. They're no match for me. Wiggling my fingers around the weight one final time, I get ready to lift and show everyone else how it should be done.

The olympics had been going on for days. And all Greggor wanted to do was bring his daughter around the place, show her the funner things in life. If funner was a word, but he was actually competing in the weightlifting event. After years of sorrows, this was something he wanted to do for himself and his little girl. Greggor wanted to prove his worth to her just like the others did. Greggor wasn't exactly the best father out there, but he wasn't the worst. As he stares into the crowd, he smiles the wide smile he had. Competing wasn't his style, but he would enjoy it even if he truly didn't like winning or losing, since both caused enemies and why should he have enemies.

As he stretches his arms and legs, he can only think of the smile on his daughter's face when he's done competing in the event. The way she'll hug him as soon as he's done with the event, but that was only his fantasy, she could easily do a million other things that'll make him go teary eyed and yet feel proud of his daughter. She was the epitome of beauty and the only person that brought color to his gray life. Greggor heads out, ready and stretched to life the weights given to him. He smiles to the crowd, gives a deep sigh and lifts with his heart. His delicate and broken heart that could withstand anything as long as his daughter was still living a happy and prosperous life.

But if training has taught me anything, it is that efforts take time. Long days and hard hours amount to success, not a simple wish or moment spent doing this in order to achieve that.

A career would probably be put off by such minuscule misfortune. But I am no career, and in my mind's eye I can see that the world is bigger than swords and spikes and spears; it is so much deeper and wider and it is this realisation that means I do not have to wear arrogance to camouflage my insecurity.

Because there is a line drawn between arrogance and confidence—I know that I do not need to disguise any weaknesses I have as strength, for my thirst and hunger speaks for itself and pushes me closer to the edge.

But meeting the edge is not the definition of a winner, no, for being a winner takes courage and so does falling.

Careers do not fall, but this girl does. I am no career; I am so much more.

Weightlifting. Is my fucking trainer a moron? I'm a boxer, not a weightlifter. Was he having a fucking joke? I search the crowd for his face, determined to flip him off with both of my chalk-covered hands should he decide to show himself in the masses. When I can't find him, however, I hack up a gob of spit and hurl it angrily from between my teeth to the floor. If I had had any say - if we were treated more like athletes and less like cattle - I would be in wrestling at the very least. But no. Here I am, with a series of bars in front of me that already look damn near impossible to pick up, waiting for my name to be called so I can embarrass myself in front of the whole damn nation. Lord help me if I ever become a tribute. They'll remember this moment, and I'll be slaughtered on sight.

There are several notable names amongst the competitors today, so I suppose I, in my anonymity, am already as a disadvantage. I spot a Krearns, a Hammerfell, and at least one Fray standing around me. I wonder if Justice is somewhere in the audience, and then feel both embarrassment and sourness as my face begins to get hot. Hopefully, the way my  heart has just started to pick up pace will help me get through this ordeal with some dignity.

The bar is cold to the touch as my name is called, and the crowd's cheering swells even though they don't know who I am. I smile wryly, recognising the applause for what it is - inane excitement simply for being here, watching the Victors of the coming years competing so one day they can say "I saw them. I knew this would be their destiny." I can't help but roll my eyes, the smile fading as quickly as it grew. Let my hatred for the public manifest itself as power, and let me at least succeed in the easiest of these three feats.

It didn’t take a genius to notice the lack of female representation in the weight lifting event. Biology made it difficult for certain individuals to train their bodies up for this, but Mirage was among the minority willing to try. She wanted to crush the competition into dust, not for a medal and not for glory – just for fun. She didn’t think would take home gold, but why not try? She was a career, and this was as close to a competition as she was willing to stray.

Not all careers want to be in the Games.

So she tied her hair back and lifted for the gods.

A scrawny kid lifted a lot of weight. He set the bar high, but I know I can beat him. At least I thought I could until people got on the stage and showed him up. My work is done, but I refuse to let these twigs own me. I'm stronger than them. I'm better than them. And I'm about to prove it. I wipe the sweat from my palms as I take my place on the stage. It's my turn to be in the spotlight. Me. Nobody can steal it from me. I'm here to claim the honor and glory. I'm hear to send a message. I will take the crown when it's my turn, and nobody will steal it from me. I squat wrapping my hands around the weight, and then I lift.

Ryan Findergah

After taking the gold medal in wrestling, he was determined to achieve another medal. He had proved himself in one event, but medalling in two events would give him an undeniable status. If he hadn't been threatening before, the knowledge that he was the best wrestler and one of the strongest people in the olympics - and thus in District one, two, and four - would secure his prowess. Surely she would pay attention to him then.

Moving to stand before the weights, he flexed his hands and shook his shoulders. He would prove himself, and then they would all know him for what he was: a winner.

Hell dab, screaming and violent punches; I love the Olympics. This shit is my jam, all these beefy testosterone parties, I swear I've gained 5 pounds just by fuckin' around in the gyms around here. Purple Puma kicking asses and taking names -- I don't think I'm ever leaving. Regular District Four ain't NOTHING compared to this! I kicked a chair last night and didn't have Priscilla yell at me; this is that shit I could grow to love.
