[Day 5] Decathlon: Long Jump

DECATHLON: LONG JUMP

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character setting up for their jumps, and then paste the code [*roll=195+600] without the asterisks into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a three-digit number that will correspond to a distance, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 682 is read as 6.82 meters) Each participant will be measured by their best jump only, not their average distance or the sum of their jumps.

The competitor with the furthest distance wins this event. Distances for this event will be continually updated on this thread. After you have rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction to each jump if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your jumps whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

The last day of the olympics and the last chance to catch up. Enzo had dropped and risen and dropped over and over again. All he could do was be frustrated with himself day after day. Something about himself was breaking inside of him and he hated it. Nemo always told him that frustration was why he wasn't doing so well, but how could he believe his little brother. His little brother wasn't exactly a master at anything. He never trained as hard as Enzo and Everett had, so instead of listening to Nemo he turned to Everett for advice. Everett had told him he needed to calm down and just focus, which was solid advice, but not the advice he had been looking for. All he could think of was beating Nevah from the start and now all he wanted was a medal. Everett had proved that he could do something in pole vaulting. Enzo wanted a medal like his cousin Ty had been gaining. It's the only thing he wanted and to see Nevah's grin wiped off her face.

Long jump was something he thought he could possibly do well in. High jump had gone better than he expected it to, so Long jump couldn't be that bad for him. Enzo had been stretching and stretching. His muscles ached from every event he had done, but his olympics was almost complete, all he had to do were the last two events. Enzo prepared for the long jump and he felt prepared. He glares at Nevah one more time for good luck, before smiling like a fool and heading out to the jumping area. Warmed up, stretched, and ready to go. Enzo runs towards the pit. His heart races and everyone was watching what a Krearns could do. Enzo wasn't the best, but he wasn't the worst. He would show them all what he could truly do.

I've dug myself too deep.

Way too deep.

And this competition boils like my blood in the night. Treachery intruding in my once pleasant nights; I become heated with the thought of giving life up in order to become a hero.

I'm not a hero, not a winner, not a champion, not glorious, not decorated. All that I am is a collection of worries and hopes which, when together, are nothing but a big old mess.

I thought being in the Olympics would provide me with some sense of stability—something to work towards when it's all over. But my parents are hungry for nothing less than luxury. They thought that naming their daughter after the concept would be enough but nothing can fill the hole in their stomach—not my words, not my shouts or screams.

Nothing.

I start at the track, hands on my hips. A line is drawn at the side of the sand pit which marks the attempts of Enzo Krearns. I run to the line, leap and land.

Sand in my eyes; I've dug myself way too deep.

You turned away when I looked you in the eye,

My heart sits heavily inside my chest as I think back to the shot put performance yesterday. It was terrible, pathetic. I have no excuse for it since I carry a gold from the individual event. I don't know what happened, but I do know it's eating me alive. My family would want that. They would want me to fail. To feel like I'm falling apart and behind, yet I still have two more events to finish today. Pole vault and long jump. Both terrify me as so much ride on the finished. I have so much standing before me, but I'm falling apart. I can hear Renegade laughing at me in the background. I can hear my mother telling me I'm not good enough, and the sad thing is I believe it's true right now. I shouldn't think this way, not when I have to prepare to preform.

I take a deep breath doing all I can to calm my shaky hands as I walk to the track and field. It's my last chance.

Breathe.

It doesn't matter what my family thinks, yet most of the time I find myself slipping into the depths I've locked away so long ago. My prize isn't a medal. All I want is a chance to show myself that I am worthy. That I deserve to live.

I stop in front of the long jump, and I allow myself the chance to loosen my muscles. I stretch them out knowing I can't afford an injury this close to the finish. When it's time, I take my place, and I keep my head held high.

Just make yourself happy. That's the prize.

Tied with Enzo in the pole vault…such an embarrassment it was for Nevah. She does not even equal to him, the only similarities they have are some facial features and the name that trails behind their first. This isn’t how the decathlon is going to end…joint place with Enzo, no! Nevah just has one more chance now, one more chance to obtain that much needed medal and one more chance to win the rivalry with her cousin. She is the only useful Krearns, she is the one that is going to bring recognition to the famous District Four family name in this Olympic games.

She’s been training in that centre for the majority of her life, for something like this, she can’t put them many hours to waste.

Warming up her muscles, she watches Enzo take on the long jump, his scores being fairly decent although they quickly beaten by the two girls that followed. Grinning at the scoreboard, she takes her turn at the starting line.

Just three jumps, only one can help her get on top of that scoreboard…

The long jump seems simple. I don't know what I'm capable of doing, though. I just know I have to go out and give my all. I want to make them proud to say they're my family. This is my way of keeping them alive. I hurt their memory for so long, but I refuse to bring them shame anymore. I watch as they all take off running. I watch as they jump into the sand. Some of them are making huge jumps, and I want to congratulate them, but I'll wait until after the decathlon is over. Everyone here is a great competitor, and I'm glad I'm apart of it. I take my place when it's time, and I run forward hoping my momentum carries me.

This was it, the last day to prove herself to Panem, and more importantly, to Yusei Rhee. That was the problem with dreaming about a fellow competitor; there was simply no way to move forward. Either she bested him or he best her - they both couldn't win. In the end, it was much easier to simply ignore him.

Of course, the universe wouldn't let her off the hook so easily. He immediately preceded her in the long jump, looking lean and handsome in the morning light. She stretched and let herself admire him as he flew over the sands.

"My turn," she whispered before catapulting herself into the sun.
