[Day 5] Pole Vault

POLE VAULT

Welcome to the pole vault event of the third Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is somewhat more difficult than the other events. Feel free to roleplay your character making their vaults, warming up, etc as you would normally. However, instead of pasting a single code in once, you will be pasting different codes in for success/failure at different heights. You will have three chances to clear each height.


Everyone clears the 4.60m jump automatically. You get three tries to clear each following vault, with the odds getting worse for success each time. You will need to edit your post each time for multiple vaults / to add the next jump. BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR VAULTS. Here are the odds:

The competitor with the highest successful vault wins this event. Heights for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

He was already a champion. Jonny had masterfully defeated all those who had crossed him so far. He was undefeated, truly the best District One could hope for. And though he did not need to, he would prove it again.

He'd never practiced pole vaulting, had never seen the need. But taking part in the event was an excellent way to show himself off to the audience one last time before taking the gold at the next day's ceremony. There was no doubt in his mind that he would be one of the most memorable parts of these Olympic games and that people would be talking about him for a long time to come. "Such grace," they would say. "There really is nobody better than a Trumton."

Smiling at the thought, Jonny took off at a run, eager to make his mark yet again.

Sana Fleur
Pole Vault

In Sana's mind, the pole vault had a very interesting concept to it. Perhaps it was because she was such a naturally curious person that made her decide to try it out in the Olympics. She hadn't won any medals prior to this, but she thought that it would be nice if she did with this particular event. Winning was never a major concern that the girl had, no, but she thought it would be nice. Whenever she won something, which, unfortunately, was not very often, she felt really good about herself and whatever she had accomplished. Normally, the things that she won had to do with academics. Maybe this time around would be a bit different.

When it was Sana's turn to go, she went to the starting point. It was time to start, and she was off.

They only know him for his name. Krearns. Krearns was a name that he was stuck with no matter what he tried to do to get rid of it. It wasn't all that bad for him, people avoided him like an infectious disease, but there were looks of pity. Pity for how their family was. Jay and Mason hadn't succeed and Someith was the only one who truly showed what their name held. A power to their name that had caused mass numbers of death within his games. Everett would never be like any of their famous names. All he was and could be was Everett Krearns, man who lost his parents and raises his two siblings. It had been rough, but getting into the swing of things was working out well for him.

As the olympics went on with his crippling defeat in wrestling and beach volley ball. Everett knew he had to do something else, so when pole vaulting was an event he saw, he signed up for it and made it somehow. As he stands pole in hand. His heart races as he hopes to compete like Jay did and win a medal for the Krearns family. They needed it more than ever against some of the craziest careers he's ever seen. Everett noticed the one person who he had been so close to defeating Torka Hammerfell, the guy he almost beat while drunk or hungover. He couldn't remember much of it, but all he knew was that this was his second chance and he had to make it count. His heart beats, his hands grab the pole and soon enough he's going. Eyes stare at him and he calms himself, Everett wasn't the greatest, but he was still a Krearns and Krearns never quit.

And time after time, I find myself finding comfort in my name.

Being a Fray girl gives you status and attention and there is a certain expectation to perform to continue the greatness of the family name. Perhaps I stare blankly at the sharp four letters because I am too afraid to lose my security and realise that I am, really, just like any other career.

But there's this thing—emotion—which I am sure separates me from the rest. It has to, because in my head there are all these feelings which cut deep when I work against them. Careers can't understand this (at least, I don't think they can) because they are nothing but arrogance and ego.

Never made of sympathy or comprehension; never made of the things I am.

I look around. I had been deemed a champion in the rowing but that wasn't down to my name or my training.

It was down to forcing myself to face expectations, and here, I have to do the same.

When your dreams all fail

Pathetic was the only word to describe her gymnastics performance. Mysteria was nothing more than a weakling walking behind the cocky attitude holding her together, and she was for sure the laughing joke of district four. Yet she had one more chance to redeem herself. One last chance to prove she was strong. To prove that everyone is best off training. Over her time here, Myst has watched the events, and she watched those scrawny good for nothing kids take home a prize that belonged in her hands. Nobody should've done better than her. But there she stood with a frown on her face realizing she wasn't the best to live. Someone was better than her. She took a deep, relaxing breath allowing the air to flow gently into her lungs while she took a step back to exam herself. Going out knowing she would win obviously didn't work, and she wouldn't do that in the pole vault.

She would go out limping as much as possible only to prove the people wrong. It was her chance to redeem herself.

Myst watched as the competitors ran forward before launching themselves high into the air. She could do it, she knew she could, but she wasn't going to show off. All she had to go was go out and win. The gold was her's and nobody would steal it away.

I'm watching people fail, and it's taking every ounce of strength I have to not roll around on the ground laughing at them. This is easy. It's a piece of cake. Anyone can plant a pole in the ground and launch over a pole. I know I can. If I lose, oh well no big deal. But it won't happen. Turning from one person to the next, I grab my pole yawning as I wait my turn. I'm growing tired of waiting. Tired of watching people go before me, but it gives me a mark to beat. My lips twist into a cocky grin when it's my turn. And I know what I have to do. Making a fool of myself won't happen, and I'm about to show these idiots how this is done.

Benit felt like a huge idiot. The day prior, he had slept through one of his events, getting disqualified right away. At least he had participated in one, and in that one he failed horribly. Anger burned through him. He was ready to use the flexible pole to jump higher than the rest of his opponents, and he hoped he wouldn’t smack the bar at all. He couldn’t wait to outperform all of his measly opponents. He stretched one final time before his turn. He chalked up the end of his rod. He placed his feet at the starting line and started running placing his pole in the middle of the cross, he pulled up, and soared.
