[Day 5] Artistic Gymnastics

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

Welcome to the Artistic Gymnastics tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The gymnastics complex is located inside the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you all warm up with your coaches before your turn comes to perform, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready for their performance on each apparatus, and then paste the code [*roll range=1-10] without the asterisks after you make each of the four moves. You can do them in any order you'd like (vault, beam, uneven bars, floor) but be sure you're performing the assigned move and rolling the die after you do each one. You will roll a number 1-10 on each die, and that represents the number of points you get for your execution score for the move. Your execution score will be added to the difficulty score (which I will assign for each move) and that will be your score for that apparatus. After you've rolled for each move, all of your scores will be added together to determine who has the highest all-around score. After you roll, again feel free to roleplay as you go along.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

Everything was slowly going back to normal for Mina. Since the aftermath of the tsunami, she never thought she’d ever recover from it. Her father and three brothers, taken from her so quickly, it took a while for Mina to comprehend it . Why them? she forever questioned. It could have been anyone but why them? Really, they never stood a chance against that natural pit of disaster, she just hopes it happened quickly for them, she knew her father didn’t really enjoy pain and it would have only been kind to him if it was instant. But can death really be kind to anyone? Death takes away the good, Death doesn’t just pain the dead but those who the dead leave behind…like her mother. Mina doesn’t believe her mother will ever come out of a state of grief and really, she can understand. She may have come across as a brute strong woman towards Mina but that was just a thin layer that was protecting the softness within.

Taking part in the Olympics as always been one of Mina’s great ambitions and especially in the gymnastics. After such a year, she never thought it’d happen but here she is. She just wishes her one best friend could be competition in the events too. Teagan had won a silver in previous year but the nature called and bound him to wheelchair, why does mother nature have to be so cruel? Vowing to come home with a medal for Teagan and her mother, Mina is adamant on getting her hands on at least a bronze medal. She can’t let them down, not at this moment…

Cassidy had been waiting for this moment since she had first received her invitation to compete in the Olympics. "It's only natural that they would reach out," she'd thought. "I'm a naturally born star."

She'd been watching her fellow competitors for days, and all she could see was a complete lack of tact and grace. So many of them were nothing but grunts and brutes, if that. Only here and there did she find someone worthy of even an understudy's role in the grand spectactle called "The Life of Cassidy Adalor," much less a starring role. 

"All eyes, at the end of the day," she mused, "are on me, and me alone." As she took her place on the floor, ready to compete, all she could think about was showing them why she was the main character in all of their stories.

When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood’s run stale

She wanted to find her brother. Ozzy left home when Myst was young, and her entire life goal was to find him. To show him that his ways were wrong. Training for the games was all she knew, and now she took a break to test her ability in the Olympics. Maybe her brother was here. Maybe he was showing off the skills he found away from home, but somewhere in the back of her mind, she doubted it. Ozzy was weak, broken, and Mysteria wanted nothing more than to prove she was better, that she was stronger - not even a limp would hold her back.

Hearing the crowd chanting her name as she made her way to the stage, Myst couldn't help the smile spreading across her face. Where had time gone? Would training make a difference? She didn't know because the Olympics had nothing to do with the games. Many would win a medal while only one would survive the arena, and there wasn't a doubt in her mind that she was strong enough.

Every hair stood on end as she made her way to the center of the floor. Her eyes darted from the judges to the people in the crowd. It was time, and she would give them a show of a lifetime. She wasn't a loser. She would not lose this because she had earned it. She had trained for it. Losing would make her a traitor to her family because they only raised winners. And to lose now would only prove her brother was right, and that training was for the weak.

Well, this year was bound to be completely different than the last Olympics. She ought to be returning to a sycophant crowd screaming her name. Instead, everyone wanted to talk to her about Justice Fucking Fray. As though she wasn't the current world record holder in artistic gymnastics. As though she hadn't returned year after year to best herself at the floor events. As though her cousin's bloody hands were more noteworthy than her graceful ones.

Labyrinth returned to the Olympic Stadium with a purpose.

Only someone else had finally entered to snatch the glory from her fingertips.

     There's a fluttering of something within you; butterfly wings scraping against the walls of your stomach, while the acid inside of you burns them away — and you find a certain kind of beauty within that. Gentle things are horrible things, and you don't know which of the two you mostly are. And is the thing itself horrible, or just the circumstances of its existence? Again, you're not sure. But at what point after the soft girl hardens herself does she become the monster in all of the fairy-tales that she read as a child? Is that necessarily worse than being the damsel? 

     You crack your knuckles, steel fingers sliding against bones of flint, and the sparks that fly off from that union threaten to scorch your skin and engulf your entirety in flames. But when the princess sheds her dress for a pair of unfurled wings and claws, why should she fear the fire? Why should she contemplate the meaning of her life — whether it was great, or less than that? You live; that's all you can do. You breathe and you fall and you break, and sometimes, you rise.

     And when you take your position, shaking away thoughts of family and failure and focusing only on yourself, you realize that you are doing one of the two.

     Rising,

     or falling.

     And neither means that this is the end for you.
