Julianna Reekie
"Come back. Even as a shadow. Even as a dream."
When she looks in the mirror...
If Julianna were to look in the mirror, the young girl would see long, straight, brown hair, reaching down her back. Her green-blue eyes would stare back at her, and her pale, beautiful skin would be quite noticeable. Many others see her as beautiful, and she doesn't deny it, but she wishes she looked more like her sisters. They're not just seen as beautiful, but stunning in appearance. Julianna often wishes she looked like them, and could live up to the looks she wants to have.
The young girl thinks that perhaps the reason that she's not seen to be as attractive as her sisters is because of the way she dresses. She doesn't dress poorly or like a slob, but she wears simple, practical clothing. Rarely does she ever wear jewelry, as she just finds it to get in the way. Julianna has a few things that she doesn't particularly like about her appearance, too. She doesn't like the way her hair gets frizzy and is hard to untangle, and she hates her flat feet that make it so she can't walk straight. Her finger nails are often jagged, as she has a habit of chewing on them, and she is often bruised on her arms and legs, due to being rather clumsy.
Julianna has a skinny build, without much muscle to her. She's flat-chested, although that's not too unusual for someone her age, and she isn't one that weighs very much. The girl reaches only five feet and three inches in height, which is something that she isn't very happy about, and hopes that she'll grow taller. Her hair is often down, and the most she does with it on a daily basis other than brushing it is normally just putting a few braids in it. She's satisfied with how this looks, luckily, as her thick hair makes it difficult for her to do much more when it comes to styling it.
What others see...
Timid, nervous and emotionally frail would be words that one may use to describe the thirteen-year-old known as Julianna Reekie. Since she turned twelve, she's been terrified of the possibility of ending up in the Games. Even before then, she was frightened by the fact that one of her siblings or relatives could end up in the Games. Yes, some weren't of reaping age, but those that were made her nervous. The one thing that truly scared her, though, was at the reaping of the 74th Games with her cousin, Rachel Violette, volunteered for the death match that was the Hunger Games.
Julianna couldn't imagine why her cousin would possibly want to go into the Hunger Games. Granted, she was a career, but Julianna always saw Rachel as too kind to actually fight someone to the death. Then, Rachel ended up being killed while mourning one of her fallen allies, and this struck even more fear and sadness into the young girl. She realized that even the most determined people, such as Rachel, could be killed in a matter of seconds. She also realized that that could have been her, had she been reaped and no one volunteered. Although, in a District like Two, volunteers were extremely common.
In situations that don't involve the Games, Julianna is still quite a quiet and emotionally sensitive girl. She gets upset easily, and doesn't like criticism. Often, jealousy, such as jealousy of her siblings and the attention they get, is her downfall. She starts to hate on herself, feeling like she's useless and that she can't live up to the standards she's set for herself. Luckily, Julianna isn't one to get very angry. Instead, she's more likely to get sad or upset, and shut out other people in her life, even if that's not necessarily a good thing, either.
Flashbacks...
Growing up was never difficult for Julianna, even if she liked to think it was. Often called 'Juli' by her friends and family, she's always been well-loved. The family has never had trouble with money. This means that Juli has never had to purchase tesserae. She also grew up with quite a good number of friends, meaning that she was rarely lonely, and certainly never had an absence of attention. Although, she did get quite a bit of attention when she didn't want it, too.
Until her cousin Rachel died, Julianna had never experienced the loss of someone close to her. She had bonded surprisingly well with her older cousin, making it very difficult to see her leave in death's grasp. Juli sobbed that day as she watched it all happen on the television screen. Now, she's become much more closed off from people, and wants to refuse to watch future Hunger Games, so as to not go through the same thing again. Though, she knows that her family will require her to watch it, mostly because it's mandated by Panem law.
In her free time, Juli could often be seen going for walks around the District, usually with one or two of her friends, as her parents usually prefer that she doesn't go alone. She also enjoys adventuring, whether that be climbing on things she's not supposed to and being scolded for it, or just digging in the dirt, trying to discover any types of insects that she can. Once or twice, she's fallen off of what she's been climbing on, and injured herself. Luckily, the injuries have never been too severe. Since she's never had too serious of consequences for her 'adventuring', she continues to do these things, and enjoys them, using them as a way to distract herself from the things in her life that are bothering her. Things that bother her could be anything from when she lost Rachel to just little arguments with a friend from school
