It's a cold, cruel, harsh reality

Training, day... whatever. Sage wasn't quite sure how many days they'd been training. This could be just their second day, and regardless, he'd lost track. Therefore, he knew that went he did his training today, he had to go all out, as he didn't know how much time he had left to practice and prepare himself for the upcoming death match that he'd signed up for. Sage had entered the training center quite early that morning after eating a sufficient breakfast and changing into his outfit that the Capitol had given him for training in.

Just as he'd remembered from yesterday, the Training Center was huge and full of a wide variety of stations that the tributes for this year's Games could use to prepare themselves. Along one wall, there were targets, and various tributes were training with different types of weapons. Yesterday, Sage had focused most of his time on hand-to-hand combat, so he figured it may be best to shirt to actual weaponry today. At first, the skinny boy observed from a distance as one of the tall, blond-haired boys from District Four as there wasn't just one of those was throwing spears at a target. He was really good at it, and Sage just decided to watch for a couple of minutes.

Sage looked at the boy's stance, and the way he readied himself when he was holding the weapon before he threw it. He saw the way he moved to launch the spear into the target, and hoped that when he tried, he'd be able to do the same. Sage eventually decided, as he'd been watching for a while unnoticed, that he could approach the boy when he didn't have a spear in his hand to see if he'd be willing to teach him how to do what he was doing. Although, Sage didn't expect a yes, as the older boy was clearly a Career from what his technique and skill showed.

"Would you be willing to show me how to do that?" Sage asked the Career. He knew that if he wanted to get anywhere in the Games, he had to at least try to learn something that would help him aside from building a fire and punching things.

District Four Male of the 75th Hunger Games

     It's simple, in a mere matter of a meticulous amount of mathematically added minutes fifty one of us were going to be dead. Some are training helplessly, some are crying, some are screaming from insurmountable rage, and some are serious with sadistic intentions hiding within the illumination of their irises. Me, I feel nothing. Not a single sense runs through my veins. The moment Chaos chose to volunteer I knew my death was inevitable. Since then my shock and sorrow have subsided into nothingness. I stand as a statue among a sea of potential victors and I know I'm not one of them. My own sister practically took a knife and slit my throat. I am going to ensure she survives, but I am well aware that leads to my own termination. For several seconds on that stage I thought I could survive, then she killed me. 

    A spear sails with pristine precision through the air and lodges into the chest of a dummy from my hands. Throwing them always makes me feel better, makes me numb to any thoughts in my mind. Clears away the curses crippling every thing that makes me myself. When I strike with my spears I'm not Lightning O'Hana, I am just a warrior, a survivor. I feel my senses of sadness beginning to swell and I swiftly send another spear flying after a short spin. It drives directly through a dummy's head. I turn my eyes to the floor. 

    It is beyond describable, the feeling of knowing you are going to die. Fear threatens even the strongest senses of Ripred and anger aggravates every emotion I have. I don't want to die, I want to grow old and have children of my own. Sing songs to them down by the sparkling sandy shores. To see just one more day without this dread. Yet I know its never going to happen. 

    Words well up against my ears from my side and I turn to see a boy with a death sentence of 12 marked on his chest. My eyes are cold and its clear he doesn't deserve my wrath but ice still etches itself into my words as stare into his eyes. "You realize this is a death game right? Meaning only one person survives. Explain to me why I would want to help someone in learning how to kill a person who could possibly be me in the near future? Give me a decent answer and I might consider it."

LIGHTNING  O'HANA

Sometimes our heads slip beneath the sea, and sometimes there's no way to breathe

The boy Sage had approached had what looked like rather similar facial features to a tribute he'd encountered not too long before; Chaos O'Hana. He'd known that there were two volunteers with that particular family name, and assumed this must have been the other one. It was getting quite confusing with all of the different blond-haired tributes from Four.

What was the name of the other O'Hana again? the District Twelve boy wondered to himself. Lightning, I think it was? He didn't think about the older boy's name for too long, though, as Sage had received a rather cold glare from him. He certainly didn't seem pleased that he'd been asked to share his skills. This brought a surge of guilt through Sage's veins. He hated to bother people, but perhaps that was what he needed to do to survive.

Lightning spoke to Sage. "You realize this is a death game right? Meaning only one person survives. Explain to me why I would want to help someone in learning how to kill a person who could possibly be me in the near future? Give me a decent answer and I might consider it."

Sage tensed up for a moment, nervous that his reasoning wouldn't be good enough. Then, he thought of what he could say. Perhaps if there was something he could teach Lightning in return, he would be willing to share his abilities in weaponry. Although, Sage wasn't sure quite what the other boy knew, so he didn't know what skills he could help him acquire. Regardless, he'd see what he could come up with.

"I know," Sage said. "Though, maybe I could show you how to do something in return. I have a lot of survival skills. I can do first aid, and a lot of other things. I'm just not the best with weapons yet."

Sage was dearly hoping that his offer would be accepted by Lightning, but he could never guarantee it. He just had to say what he could, do what he could, and wait for the outcome. Sage gave a friendly smile, trying not to let the other boy's cold look have an affect on him. Generally, the younger boy was a nice person, and didn't get angry too easily, so there was the chance of that working to his advantage.
