Tears of Joy or Tears of Sorrow? {Keres/Ronnie}

KERES CHEYNE district four Keres was thoroughly tempted to volunteer at the reaping. That is, until she hear her brother's voice boom out, putting himself forward. As he made his way to the stage, Keres watched. Ronnie was good at what he did. He was smart, strong, and definitely not someone she wanted to fight in a death match. Plus, he was her brother. There was no way she'd allow herself to fight in the same Games as her brother, as she knew that only one of them could make it out. Therefore, she let Ronnie go. She wasn't upset. No, she had a smile on her face. When she made her way to visit Ronnie in the Justice Building after all of the volunteers had stepped forward, she knew exactly what to say to him. Yes, he'd said the words right when she was about to, but that didn't frustrate her. She was a bit saddened, yes, but she was going to congratulate him. Keres was a Career, and therefore didn't see the Games as something negative, as long as the person going in asked for it. If anything, she found them almost enjoyable to watch. Though, would she feel that way when it was her own brother fighting and possibly dying? She hadn't enjoyed watching Hettie die. She was sure that she'd be even more devastated if she witnessed a closer family member's death. Entering the room that Ronnie was in, Keres immediately looked into his eyes. She was looking to find an emotion in them that would tell her how he really felt right then. She wanted to know if he was scared, or perhaps confident. Maybe he was excited or upset. Whatever it was, though, she couldn't tell. It's like he was wearing a mask over his emotions, hiding them, not letting anyone peer into see what was beyond his outward appearance. Keres gave him a smile. She wasn't someone who smiled a lot, but she did enjoy being around her family- most of the time, anyway. "Congrats," was the first thing she said to Ronnie. "You think you're ready for this?" she asked him. She wanted to know how prepared he felt, because if he were confident, she would be. If he were scared, however, it's likely that she'd be nervous as well. She wasn't usually effected by the emotions of people around her, but when it came to how her family was feeling, it was a bit different for her.

It is so dull, sitting in this room for Ronnie. He has only ever seen the Justice Building from the exterior and well, the interior is just as dead looking. Three years ago, he got the opportunity to visit Henrietta in here but he declined, well his side of the family did. He rarely ever saw eye to eye with his cousin, so her departure did not inflict even an ounce of emotion onto him.

A list of names fills his mind, those likely to step through the two double doors; he can see his twin’s reaction already. ”What were you thinking Ronnie?” If only he knew that he was doing it for him, to save his life. The voice in his head warned Ronnie not to tell him about the danger, something about it making it even worse than what it is. There has never been a time where the voice has been wrong in any situation so he will just have to agree with it.

Ronnie rests his head on the table, his breakfast medicine filling his head with pain, one of the many after effects that he has to endure. He just hopes the Capitol can supply his withdrawal, he needs to be able to listen to advice from the voice.

The doors swing open, the audio from it attacking his ears with an extra pinch of pain, he really hates it when the drug enhances noise. Everything in his head sounds so muffled. He scrapes his head off the table, his vision being met by his younger sister, oh, so it’s not Reggie then.

Forcing himself to sit up straight, he waits for the words of advice from the young female, advice he will quickly dispose of as soon as he receives it.

But instead congratulation is delivered, along with a question to follow it. ”Ready for what?” His mind ticks by, emptied of any intelligible content until finally something lights up. ”Oh shit yeah,” The palm of his hand runs across his forehead, as If trying to wake up his brain. ”I suppose so, whatever.”

KERES CHEYNE district four An eye roll was what Ronnie received from Keres next. Though, she wasn't angry that he seemed to have somehow forgotten what volunteering meant. Instead, she found it somewhat humorous. She gave him a smirk. Was he serious? He had said that he supposed so. In Keres's opinion, you shouldn't volunteer unless you knew you were ready. "You suppose so? Funny," Keres snickered. "Anyway, she continued, "I've got confidence in you, so you better not let me down. I'm not losing my brother because of him not knowing what he's doing, okay?" Keres was never the most polite individual, though she was the slightest bit more kind when talking to her siblings. Words like this coming out of her mouth could actually be considered friendly for her. Also, a congratulations from her? Her brother should be ecstatic to be receiving such a compliment from a girl who once tried to strangle two little boys one time. Granted, she didn't succeed and was landed in the detention center, but she would have gone through with it had she had the chance. Now, however, that wasn't what she needed to be thinking about. Most people in the Justice Building don't have a time full of joy and congratulatory remarks. It's generally either anger or tears, and Keres wasn't showing either. It was extremely rare for her to cry, anyway. Anger wasn't an unfound trait for the girl, but it wasn't what she felt necessary to display to Ronnie right then. Though, she would definitely feel anger if he refused to try in the arena. If he died, yes, she would be saddened by it, but whether or not tears would flow would be quite the thing to wonder. Keres generally showed her sadness with rage and frustration, not with tears and the usual traits of mourning a death of a loved one. "I know I'm not usually the kindest person, Ronnie, but that doesn't mean I want you to go die," she told him. Normally, Keres didn't express her feelings, but if there was a chance that Ronnie wouldn't be coming back, she wanted him to know what was going through her head.

Tick.Tock.Tick.Tock. Unfortunately the room was not decorated with a clock but the hands inside his head were slowly ticking by. Ticking by to the next stage, a train journey but something had to be completed before he could get there, a small task in-between and it certainly was not conversing with his little sister. Where is Reggie? They have delivered him a sibling but the wrong one. There is no time to speak to Ode, or Mom or Paps and certainly not Keres. Where is Reggie? The one person he was doing it for and yet, he hasn’t been graced with his presence.

Maybe he is next Ronnie. Only the voice can assure him, Keres is only the first person to meet him, after all.

His face is in the direction of Keres but his eyes wander elsewhere, focused on anything but her words. The train journey seemed to be doing a journey of its own in his mind. It was all excitement that fills him as he thinks about it. Alcohol, food, Leon Krigel and oh, alcohol! So many ways to keep himself occupied, maybe he can cater to the lot of them all at once.

But there is certainly one thing that he wishes to tick off his bucket list as soon as he reaches the Capitol, such an array of substances to enhance himself, better than the novelties sold in District Four.

”… but that doesn't mean I want you to go die," Ronnie is thrown back into reality, his focus forced onto his little sister immediately, only the drag ends of her speech being caught by his attention. Oh such dull predictable words, hopefully Reggie will not drown him with something similar.

Supporting his head, his elbow rests on the table as his chin sits atop of his fist, a blank expression projected on his face. There is nothing really he has to say to his little sister but he appreciates her effort. ”Oh yes thank you yeah. Yeah of course I’ll try not to die, whatever.” His head drops from the support, balancing in the air as he looks away. He waves his hand as if to say, next please. There are only so many seconds he can endure in such a sappy conversation.

KERES CHEYNE district four Anger and frustration were starting to build inside of Keres following her brother's comments. The 'whatever' that followed him saying he'd try not to die was the first thing to irritate her. This, however, was followed by a wave of his hand, as if trying to tell her to get on with it and move along. She hated the thought of her brother not wanting to see her in what could be there last moments together. Sure, she wasn't a generally sentimental person, but she still cared about her family, and if there was even the slightest chance that this was there final goodbye, she would have wanted to at least have some genuine feelings from her brother. Was Ronnie truly so irritated with Keres visiting him that he wanted her to leave before their time was even up? It certainly seemed that way to her. The girl let out a noise of anger and stomped her foot on the ground. Then, she got up close to her brother, placing her hands on his shoulders and looking him in the eyes sharply. Her grip was firm, as she wanted him to know she wasn't happy. Then, Keres spoke in a harsh tone. She was not going to let him get off with treating her this way if there was a chance they'd never see one another again. "Listen to me, Ronnie, alright?" she began. "I'm not going to just let your attitude go. Sure, I understand you don't want to talk to me on a daily basis, but if this is the last time I see your sorry ass, I don't want it to involve me talking and you ignoring me just because you're a little bit irritated. I don't want you to just go out there in die, no matter how much it may seem like I feel that way sometimes. No, I want you to come back as a victor, alright? I don't expect anything less of you," Keres's voice was stern and angry, and when she concluded with what she was saying to her older brother, she took her hands off of his shoulders, gave him one last glare, and stormed out of the room.
