Molly Malachite | 14 | D1F
This was far from what Molly had expected to encounter in the arena. As the distance between the broken girl and her attackers grew and the two boys faded from view, Molly slowed to a halt. (The pain!) Her leg was useless, a broken mess. Molly hopped, once, twice, … thud! She hit the ground hard. (My head… my leg… my shinies…) As the dazed girl tilted her face up, she found herself looking at a most unusual sight – a door … on the ground. Curious, she opened it… (Are the shinies behind here?) and had to blink her eyes multiple time to convince herself, (Is this real?)
Behind the door lay a staircase, which led to another door, and another staircase, on and on and onandonandon… Molly looked away, for the sheer sight was making her head swim. (Or is that blood loss?) Looking behind her, Molly realized she had no choice. She could either return to the scene of the bloodbath and risk losing her other leg, (I need to find Gentian), or descend into the labyrinth of steps.
Dragging herself one foot at a time, Molly slowly descended the stairs. It wasn’t long before she encountered her ally, standing… on the ceiling? “How’d you get up there?” she they called.
“What? I’m not up anywhere. I’m as down to the ground as it gets, silly. You’re the one standing up on the ceiling.” As Mollie watched, Gentian looked around with a thoughtful look on his face, then started running from the ceiling down a wall, then across the room so that he stood directly opposite Molly. As he approached, all Molly could do was gawk. (How? What? Did he just - ?)
“Well you’re just full of secrets aren’t you? They teach you how to do that in District 8?” She lit up with a thought. “Can you teach me?” As he helped the broken girl up, the pain in her leg intensified. “Careful,” she squeaked, “Some of us weren’t as lucky as you during the Bloodbath.”
“Speaking of which, where did you run off to? And where’s Salome? You’ve got a lot of explaining to –" Footsteps, just ahead. The duo froze, unsure about whether they should approach or not. (I’m useless like this. Maybe we should run.)
(No, then we’d just meet right back up with those other boys. Be realistic Molly, the only way to go is forward.)
“No use standing around, Gentian. We have to keep moving,” she said. (Perhaps they’re friendly, like Salome. Maybe they even have shinies they’re willing to share!)
Molly lit up at the possibility of finding more allies, individuals who could help – (Who am I kidding? They can’t be trusted. Hell, my own district partner crippled me the first chance he got. It’s like the trainers back home said – in the Games, you play to win, or you die.)
Nevertheless, Molly realized, even if they weren’t friendly, that didn’t mean they didn’t have anything she wanted. (My shinies!)
They were now close enough that Molly could make out the duo before them, two girls, one crippled just like Molly. (At least we know this will be a fair fight.) She smirked, and as visions of diamonds, emeralds and amethysts danced before her eyes, Molly lunged.
Of course, she failed to consider that Gentian would not be lunging with her, and, with only one leg to support her full weight, she fell, her fist colliding with the other crippled girl’s foot. She looked her in the eyes, a mischievous look on Molly’s face, and… realized that she knew the girl. It was Leticia, from District 7, in the dining hall, with the bracelet. (The shiny bracelet!) The mischievous look twisted into something much more sinister as Molly parted her lips and said with a giggle, "Nothing personal, but you’ve got something I want."
