Day Two Anthem

Night falls for everyone except the Phosphorescent Orchard, which only seems to brighten in the dark. Above it an aurora dances until the dawn, spinning the floating star bodies of moonrise jellyfish in circles and giving any child who doesn't know how to tuck themselves into bed a vision with which to replace their dreams. The creatures that haunt the night suddenly seem less wild. Airborne sting rays could be passing clouds and the ever-present flutter of nakom wings is simply a lullaby of the breeze. In a land where up is down and the only thing stranger than reality is your ability to embrace fiction, the less you see the more you feel you know.

The coming of the dawn brings a truer song as a piano within the mansion begins to play itself and creatures from throughout the arena hum along. It becomes difficult to tell where the anthem is resonating from when even the plants and the violin bows carried by your fellow tributes seem to echo with the melody. Perhaps it's a mystery you could solve if only you weren't distracted by the faces of the fallen alight in the sky — called victories by some and beloved devastation for others.
