Oasis Tuson
There's never been a dull moment in her life since she met Kirito. The blacks and white of District Six's hellish life that she had was now gone. All the colors of the green district known as eleven brought out the best life she's lived, even if there's so much pain in the brightness. Eyes glance at the screen as the color of Tamron's blood comes out of his body. It's a shock to her system as she wants to look away, but she has to see the dying light in another Rhodes' eyes. Her heart beats in tune for the Rhodes. All she could see was the child in her replacing Tamron Rhodes. The baby was at risk being related to Kirito Miristioma. The capitol could take away their child in moments, but at the same time, the colors were blinding her from her fears.
She's looking away from the screen as she prays to anyone that's listening for Tamron's safe passage to wherever he may go. Salome Izar and Tamron Rhodes were dead. Body bags coming home with victors being hard on themselves. She understood the pain in a way that she was suffering with them, but her focus was on something more. Something bigger than her own self. The creation of a family that she never dreamed of. The games were over. Shelby Leviane crowned victor of the 75th games. All she could do was try to ignore the fear in her chest of the nightmares of her child being thrown into something as violent as the Hunger Games. Their child could fall like Eden Turner, leaving broken hearts in the world.
That's the reason why she was in the market during the early morning of when Kirito arrived home. A present to give to her soon to be husband upon his arrival home. A gift worthy of her Kirito. Something that he could cherish for the rest of his days. The crescent moon resting upon her neck as she rubs over the sapphire with her thumb. Rafe tugging along behind her as she looks down at jewels and all sorts of rings and things. The roll of Rafe's eyes makes her want to laugh, but she's too focused on the items in front of her and the older woman. There's a small smile upon the older woman's face as she shows her the items. Rafe's voice comes out in a frustrated sigh.
"Are we done yet? You woke me up this early to go look at jewelry."
The look in his eyes is teasing. She wasn't going to fall for his traps so easily. A huff of air escapes her lips as she turns away and back to the rings. None of them are right for Kirito. A shake of her head and the older woman saunters off too another person. She turns towards her brother with a exhausted look as she speaks. There's a gentleness to her tone.
"It's for Kirito, so you can suck it up. Also, I'm the pregnant one here. What if I had the baby here? Who would I go to? That's the biggest reason why you're here."
An eye roll is all she gets in reply as she drags him to another stall in the marketplace. Objects glittering in her eyes as Rafe looks at her half interested at the things she's looking at. They were inseparable most of the time. If Oasis went somewhere, Rafe typically was somewhere close. She liked to believe it's because of their father, but in reality she knew it's because Rafe wasn't exactly great at making friends. Though, recently, he's been disappearing off to wherever. A good thing for him. He deserved friends, not a pregnant sister who dragged him along. His voice comes again to her.
"Why didn't you just invite Ikaia? Wouldn't he know Kirito better than me?"
Words come out of her lips sweetly.
"True, but you know me better than anyone else. That's why I brought you. I wanted it to be a gift from my heart."
The conversation ends there. They search the market for what felt like a long time, but was really only an hour. Feet begin to hurt as they sat down for a moment of rest. The words of her mother tickling her ear as she thought about how Rafe and her had been through so much together. They've traveled illegally to this district. They grew up together and raised one another. They were inseparable because they only had each other for safety long ago. There's been tears, smiles, fights, and so many other events, but they survived. Barely. They barely survived together. Now they were free to do what they wanted.
No father to own them.
No graves of dead ones to haunt them to sleep.
They were free to be Oasis and Rafe.
Her mother comes to mind again as she looks down at the child in her. There's so much that her mother was that she wants to be. Her mother taught her lessons that only a mother could teach. The memories she has of her mother were very few. Her death still in her mind as she told her to take care of Rafe. The words still ring in her ears. There's one thing that she remembers so vividly for being so young. The talk of children as her mother played with the dolls with her. Questions about when Rafe was born and if she was worried that they were a burden. Everything only came back to one phrase.
"You'll learn once you become a mother dear."
Back during that time, Oasis never wanted a kid. She still felt like having a kid was going to be rough, but there's a difference. It's a kid with Kirito. The image of them raising a child in the rough world sends fear through her, but they could do it. They could raise a kid together and make a family that was loving and caring. Oasis could do it as long as she had Kirito. Rafe turns towards her, a curious stare as she just instinctively smiles to nothing. The thoughts providing joy in her life.
Then there's a feeling. It's painful as she can feel her breaths become short. There's pain. Kirito was coming home on that day. Oasis could feel her already let the panic fill her chest. The thought comes to her mind. Not yet. Not now. It was already too late. Birth has no schedule when it decides its time. Her face feels pale as Rafe is already rushing around her. Arms steadying her as they move as quick as they can back to the Miristioma household. There's a panic in his eyes, but excitement. She can see that he wants to meet his niece or nephew. Mama Miristioma already has water and other things around. Other people rush into the room and she's in pain. Things slow down as she can see nurses file into the room. There's only one person she wants now more than anything.
"Kirito."
Mama Miristioma is already gripping her hand. Eyes staring at her in a loving way as she speaks in a motherly tone that reminds Oasis of her own mother. Rafe is rushing with other nurses, until he moves to her side. Oasis can feel the pain, but there's only one worry in her mind. Would Kirito make it in time? Would he know it's time for their baby to see the world with it's own eyes? Shortened breaths take her as she can hear Mama Mirstioma again, with actually words.
"He's on his way. He'll make it dear."
Eyes catch Rafe's as he looks terrified in a way that shows her the hollow form of her brother. Hand reaches her own as she forces a smile to him. She needed his comfort, not his fears. She can see what he's thinking right away. He worked in a hospital after all, but she feels the pain again. She squeezes his hand as she says kind of loudly to Rafe. There's a look in his eyes as he watches her speak. She's so scared. She's terrified. Though, she's excited. Overjoyed to meet her baby. There's just one person she needed to be there. She lets out a pained voice near the end.
"Brother! Go get Kirito."
There's a groan of pain as she looks over to him in pain. Hand squeezes in reassurance as she knows he means for her to take care of herself. He's about to leave to go find her Kirito and bring him home from the square. There's a soft kiss upon her forehead as he speaks to her. There's fear in his eyes as he looks at her. Oasis groans again, nurses continue rushing around them as Rafe listens to her words. Through all of their life, they had each other. She could trust him to get Kirito on his own. A soft smile is on her face and the words feel strong in her mind.
"I'll get him, I promise."
Memories of the night under the stars. The crescent necklace that now lays upon the desk next to her. The small kisses on her shoulder. The late nights of whispering sweet nothings. Everything of Kirito is flowing in her mind again. The image in her head of them growing old together with children and grandchildren. She held onto that image with all of her might as she speak the last words to Rafe, softly and happily.
"Tell him, that his baby is coming."
