District 11 | {Speech} |
You know the thing about these people? They don’t want someone to love them. They want someone to lead them. Looking out into the crowd, it’s clear as day. Can’t you see it?
“My name is Sampson Izar, and I’m here to tell you what you need to hear.”
“You have heard about how people plan on fixing your precious little lives, and that they’re going to make sure that you have a bigger and brighter tomorrow. They promise you that with enough hope and togetherness that we’re going to be the best we’ve ever been. Well I’m not going to piss in your mouth and tell you it’s raining. Things are bad. Worse than bad. I shouldn’t have to tell you that. We won three games and now there are two victors, and people want to stand up here and talk about how wonderful everything is.”
“I’ve had my share of loss but I’m not going to bother enlightening you. The old folks running will tell you to trust their leadership and guidance and that they know what’s best for you. Well if they knew what was best for you then maybe we wouldn’t be in such a state. Hmmm? Do you want to stand here, and tell me that you’re fine with people running things who’ve always run things? That if we just stick to the way things have always been done—the promises of a better tomorrow, the half-baked futures, that we’re going to just turn it all around?”
“The other day, a peacekeeper was nearly incinerated because of some troubled folk. That’s right. There are bad people—people here in district eleven, the types that want to make your lives worse. No one wants to talk about it, but I’m going to tell you what other people won’t. We need to find out what the hell is going on, and we need to get to the bottom of it. It feels like a damn powder keg is about to go off, and you all need someone who’s ready to make tough decisions. Someone that won’t be the typical politician, the status quo, the man behind the curtain.”
“Don’t go looking to them for answers—unless you want more of the same. If you want a true outsider, someone who doesn’t care enough about you to lie, then you’re looking at him. You need to feel safe and be safe. Do you feel safe? Do you feel safe knowing that one of our victors is gone? Weren’t they supposed to protect one another? I know that doesn’t make me feel safe.”
“For a brief, shining moment I know you felt the greatness of district eleven. If Katelyn were here right now I know she’d tell you that we were great. That we can be great again. But you need a leader that’s going to get to the bottom of whatever the hell is going on, and someone that’s going to not treat this as politics as usual. You need someone that’s going to tell you all to work together—that—you know, people don’t even work together anymore? People need to get real, folks. They need to know that we all have to be working for the same purpose.”
“Don’t let hope and faith get in the way of reality. Vote for someone who’s going to tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. Thank you.”
