Name:
Deborah Riptide
Age:
14
District:
5
Gender:
female
Appearance:
I am not too tall and not too short for my age. Just normal. It is for
the best, I guess. I don't want to look like I am my best friend's
elder sister or my toddler brother's twin. Normal height is good. I
also have rather strong legs and arms. I also have an ugly scar on my
back. I got it when I was little and my mom accidentally dropped a
knife on me when she was peeling the potatoes for dinner. I like to
show it to my friend. She thinks it is impressive.
I am cute. Or I think I am cute, which is almost the same thing. Not
everyone has amazing red hair like me. I think that this color suits
me. I think that the way my hair looks represents my personality. My
bright personality. All right, maybe I am being too confident.
Narcissistic even. But I really think I have a bright personality. In
fact, everyone has bright personalities, in my opinion. Most people
just don't have theright hair
color that would match this personality perfectly.
My eyes are another story. I have been trying to figure out what they
look like for ages. They are somewhere
between hazel and brown, but I can determine their exact color. They
are pretty and big, like my father's. My eyebrows are the same color
as my hair, only a bit lighter. They are low arched and together with
my mouth, which is so thin that that my lips seem to be constantly
pursed, they give me a “hey there, I know all about you” look. I
don't know all about people, actually.
Personality:
But I want to know everything about people. All
right, I know that knowing everything is impossible. However, I
always try to do my best to gather a lot of information about the
people around me. I like to think that I am some kind of an
undercover spy and I love investigating. Whenever I see a new face, I
try to remember it. When I hear about pocket thieves or robberies, I
always make an attempt to find the criminal. It usually doesn't work
out... To be completely honest, I haven't found a single criminal
yet. However, I don't want to lose hope. It is stupid to give up too
easily. Eventually I will succeed. My best friend often makes fun of
my conspiracy theories and my clue searching and my investigations.
But I am not going to stop, because I like thinking that maybe one
day I will be actually able to help somebody.
When I was still little, I started to wonder what I could do to make
people happy. And finally I decided that I will be looking for
criminals. It happened after some guy stole my aunt's whole salary
from her bag. And he also stole the bag, which is the most awful
thing about this. I gave her the bag for her birthday. It
had beautiful flowers painted all over it. And it had a special
pocket for the house key. Her key were also stolen, by the way, so we
had to get a new one very quickly. And we also could only have one
meal every day and one of my sisters didn't get a new dress and had
to wear the ugly old one.
The most wonderful thing about my aunt is that she let me have my own
crime room in the basement. Our basement is bigger than the house
itself and it has four rooms. The smallest one is mine. I put all my
suspects' files, reports and clues in there. There is also a huge map
of our district hanging on the wall and I have memorized every part
of it. I mark the places where different crimes happen with colorful
pieces of paper. I also have the drawings of all my clues, crime
scenes, suspicious faces. My aunt bought me a lot of pencils and
paper when I was five and I have been drawing everything I need since
then.
I think my drawing skills are rather good. I have been practicing since
the age of five, as I have mentioned already. My aunt says that I
have a drawing talent.I think that it is
great. If I am talented, I can make the faces on my drawings
recognizable. It is also nice because I draw portraits of my friends
and classmates all the time. They like those drawings and I like that
my ability to draw gives me another wonderful opportunity to make
people around me happy.
History:
I was born in Spring. On the very first Spring day. When I was little,
I asked my aunt how I was born and she told me that a snowman brought
me to my parents in a basket. He melted right after that, so I have
never seen him. But I like making one snowman after another when
winter comes, because it can mean that more families will get babies.
I know that I had a mom and a dad, but I also know that they died when
I was very little. I live with my aunt, because that is where all the
orphans in our family find a new home. Despite her small salary and
despite the fact that she is not married, she still wants to help
everybody and never refuses to help people, especially when they are
small children. Our relatives help us a lot, of course, but it is her
who takes care of us and loves us more than anyone else in the whole
world. She also takes care of children of her friends, children of
her friend's friends and so on.
I call everyone who lives with us my brothers and sisters, because one
big family is what we are now. My aunt says that we must never leave
each other. She says that our family is the people who must always
support each other. We all carry her surname, some of us have double
surnames, but everyone's name has “Riptide” in it. My aunt told
me one day that “Riptide” means “RIP those who harm our
family”. I have always been thinking that there is also another
meaning for this word, but I want to believe that the word “Riptide”
has two meanings, just because I want to think that what my aunt said
is true. That no one will ever be able to separate us or damage
our family in any way.
Other:
I am not afraid of the Reaping. President Snow will not dare to reap
me or anyone else in our family, because it will mean RIP for him. I
hope he understands that.
