Hi all,
After discussion and deliberation, the GMs have decided on the following to occur:
Ree picks up the tar, which causes a volcanic explosion. However, this does not trigger a swarm mechanic.
Instead, all tributes will take one roll of fire damage as they flee from the volcanic lava flow; as such, it is an IC swarm event without the swarm consequences. Tributes will roll for the damage when they claim their feast item. An immolation in this case is changed to +8 damage.
As tributes run from the flows, they spy a very large chicken fleeing while enjoying a nice meal of rock fondue.
Please see the Lava Flow conclusion RE thread for information on how to collect feast items. We will start with Wally. Reactions, Item claims, and fire rolls will take place in this thread (link)
Raquel and Wendell are swept safely along with the feast items on the fireproof raft, allowing for conversation with other tributes, if they so desire
Tributes who would normally need to flee with 3 posts may flee with 1 if they have the assistance of another tribute
If tributes wish to thread on this Games Day after the feast, it will be in the Obsidian Flows.
The GMs have worked together to create a swarm mockup of the lava flow, which will be sent to the Administrators to review and discuss so that we do not run into a situation like this again in the future. This will not be used in the remainder of the 76th Games.
We would like to emphasize that the goal of the swarm was not to cause more death today. It was to even out damages and allow for IC-development in a situation that not all tributes are typically involved in. We felt that we understood frustrations behind it and had worked for a very long time to make this into what we believed was a viable option; days were spent discussing mechanics and options to make this a more viable event for you all to partake in. We believed (and still do believe) that it was a good writing opportunity.
However, we did not realize all the effects of a swarm on tributes, both the IC and OOC consequences. It’s important to recognize that our experiences with swarms are different from some of yours: in the 75th Games, Shrimp was not in a swarm, and Lance and Dee had much different experiences than others while in their respective situations. We failed to recognize how painful the experience had been for others, and for this we would like to apologize.
We are human, and when we are wrong we will admit so and work to make things better. And in this case, we were wrong. Please know that we spend countless hours working to make this experience rewarding, challenging, and fun for you all, and we will not always be perfect - but we will always try our hardest.
