Cold.
Being cold on the floor of a small tenement wasn't easy for me. It just....it didn't sit right with me when I was little. When you imagine a family, you see a brother and sister, mom, a dad....not for me. My dad ignores us every day to go out with his friends and do whatever horrible shit he does, maybe as bad as the things I do, our---my step mom divorced him because of this and he doesn't even allow her to see us.....and now my two siblings are both asleep and I'm not allowed to wake them up. Great....just great. I suddenly hear my little brother, 7 year old Cody get up from his bed, looking at me bewildered.
"Why are you on the floor? You can just start the fireplace you know Amy!"
My brother seemed concerned. Heh, of course he was. With our parents being how they were us siblings were forced to stick together. We don't fight too much, and when we do its always about safety.
"I like the cold."
That's a lie. I hate the cold. I hate the freezing icicles sticking up my skin like spikes. I hate this freezing floor that feels like at any moment the ice will break and I'll fall into the even colder water below. I just hate it all.
"I'll just wait for the girls to come pick me up. It's really no problem. Go back to bed Cody."
'Stop lying to them.' I quietly think to myself on the floor as Cody goes back to his bed, but I know I have to lie. How would they react if they knew what me and the girls did everyday when my parents are out and the kids are asleep? We're risking our lives....is it even worth it? Just for the joy of being noticed? Just for finally getting attention....even if its bad? Well, whatever the answer, with the life I live, and the Hunger Games....I might not live long enough to know the answer.
Age-Amy is 14. Her birthday is on March 29th.
District-Amy, like Annabelle, is from District 8. Her family is one of the many families facing poverty.
Appearance-Amy is a white skinned girl that is a bit tall for her age, allowing people to mistake her for 15 or even 16. She mainly uses this to her advantage in order to look impressive. Amy has good sneakers from commonly stealing from the 'better off' sections of District 8, and manages to get away with it by framing the crimes on others. Amy has no birthmarks, but does have multiple scars from nights gone wrong with the girls on her legs, arms, and face, some mild, and some that look severe. She also has a lazy left eye which she tries to hide from everyone by straining her right eye to see better. Amy is mainly quite skinny like Annabelle due to eating habits, but isn't as weak as her by far. She has slim red eyebrows along with her red her cut into a short bobcut. Amy also has light freckles along her face which she notes are close to that of a friend of hers. She has a small nose and attached earlobes along with brown eyes that have bags under them that look like Amy barely sleeps.
Clothing-Most of the clothing Amy wears is either left behind hand me downs, gifts from the Smith family, or sometimes stolen items taken apart and made into something else they wouldn't be able to recognize by one of Amy's friends that is quite a good tailor. On Reaping Day, Amy has a red dress with a brown belt around it, made by some stolen clothes they took from a better family and pinned the crime on a boy from the street. Amy usually keeps clothes for about a year before passing them down onto the other girls.
On the Outside-To most people, Amy is a very cold and mean person. She rarely starts a conversation, and if she does, you are in serious trouble. In school, she's less of a meanie and more of a prankster. Not many people in school besides the girls and a select few know about how Amy acts out of class. In class to regular people, Amy is a prankster troublemaker who is quite the bad, yet funny influence. On the streets, she's a hardcore girl running around too busy to pay attention to a lot of people, who basically just acts cold like she's bored of the conversation with whoever she's talking to and has better things to do. However, maybe she does have better things do. After all, she is just a delinquent. What could she not be doing?
To Friends, Family, and Annabelle-To Amy's friends/girls, she's mainly more of a caring person who tries to help them with their stealing so they don't get caught. They are all from struggling families after all, what other option is there for them? With her family, she's very distant from her father, and not even allowed to see her real mother or step mother. She's very close with her siblings and tries to not get them into anything bad or rough so they don't end up doing what she does. To Annabelle....let's just say Amy may or may not have a crush. Its probably the one thing she will never admit to herself. She admits that what she does is wrong, she admits she feels anger towards the better off....but not that she likes a tiny, scrawny 12 year old that shouldn't even be trying to make friends with her.....and besides, the way Amy is with Annabelle, its kind of weird.
Goals-Amy wants to get enough money one day to be able to support everyone in her family, and also wants to quit the pranking and stealing act and move on, live with the girls somewhere better. But, knowing that will never happen due to the Capitol....she knows its just wishful thinking. Because all District 8 is just a pile of smoke heaps, no sense of hope found anywhere in that place.
Strengths-Amy is quite street smart due to her need to go out at night to live, and is also very good at stealth and being alone at night. She's a good liar, being able to fake seeing someone steal something, She's also semi strong, but not too much. Her 'job' doesn't focus on strength too much. She's also not afraid of the dark and can stay awake during the night if so required.
Weaknesses-Even though Amy is basically a delinquent, she does have a soul. She is very protective of children, to where she would make a pact with a child or refuse to kill one. So, a 12 year old could easily betray her if they so desired. She has a hard time being nice to strangers, and because of her lazy eye, combined with no glasses and constant strain, she has the chance to go blind. She also isn't very calm and will snap at any moment if someone screws up, even for the simplest of things. She also thinks down on herself due to not having much positive attention growing up.
History: Amy's real mother was never in a relationship with her father. It was just a one night stand gone wrong. Her real mother made the father take the child, as he was the one who told her to do it and because she wasn't ready for a child. However, her father had never wanted the child, but he had to take her in regardless. She was mainly ignored by him, barely getting food while her father used all the money they had on himself and went out all the time. One day, her father met a woman and they fell in love and became a couple. However, after about 1 year the woman dumped her father after finding out about his activities. However, after a while the father learned he got the woman pregnant after hearing about their child and how she was different from both parents in a certain way. A while later though, her father met a final woman and married her. After that, he spent all his time with her, until the point where he didn't even make dinner for Amy anymore. Their relationship was never physically abusive....it was more neglect than anything.
At that point, Amy knew she had to do everything herself. At age 6, she started looking in trash cans after she saw another kid do it and got food that way. But mainly, the way she stayed alive was begging for food kneeling down on a doorstep. Most people ignored her, why wouldn't they? They had to fend for themselves. However, some did listen and gave her money or something to eat. It was better than nothing. Not wanting them to know about her father, she acted as if she was homeless instead of neglected. When she was 7, her step mother gave birth to twins by accident, Cody and Irena. But since neither of them liked children, the kids were also ignored. Amy was forced to take care of her siblings, and began stealing more and more to support them. At age 9, she met the girls and joined their stealing ring, them stealing food and other supplies from the better off and trading it around the families so none of them starved. Reasons were desperate. 'Our mother died, Were too poor, no food, no one cares, abandoned.....' Meanwhile, some did it to be heroes, while others just jumped in for the thrill.
When she was 10 years old, she started doing pranks. It was just so she could be noticed. All she ever wanted was just to be noticed by someone. She needed attention, something to keep her occupied. One day in class, she met this girl named Annabelle. They became best friends fast due to being eccentric, and pranked the schools together. However, when the lights went out, or when stealing called, she always keeps Annabelle out of it for three reasons. One, she's a little sister to her. Two, she may or may not have a crush on her. Three, she doesn't want her to get killed. Honestly, if it came down to it, she didn't know what she would do for Annabelle, Cody and Irena, or one of the girls. But she knew if she had the chance, it would be something not many people are willing to do. But Amy McCarthy always takes risks, does she not?
In conclusion-This is probably the most dramatic character I've ever done. And I've done Fey for godsake! Well, this probably will not be accepted due to edge. At least I tried.
