And while you are sitting indoors
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain

Food was an important thing in everyone’s lives, but especially in the lives of those who had to gather it themselves. Living in the woods would likely have been very difficult for most eight-year-olds, but not for Violet. She had lived there her entire life, and always had to supply food for herself and her family by going out and gathering what they needed. At least, ever since the age of five. Before then, her mother would often be there with her.
Now, however, there was no way her mother would be able to follow her around the woods as she gathered her food, whether Violet wanted her to or not. This was because of how close Violet’s mother was to giving birth to another child, and that she was not in the type of position to be able to wander too far from their little hiding place safely. If she were to get hurt because of her current state, there was nothing Violet could really do.
One rather dim, and somewhat rainy afternoon, where clouds seemed to almost completely cover the sun, blocking out a significant amount of its once bright rays, the small girl had just finished gathering some food for her family, brought it back to their small area that they called ‘home’, and ventured out once more, simply for a bit of an adventure. She knew how to be safe. She knew what to do if any dangerous people or animals showed up nearby, and she also knew how to avoid Peacekeepers the absolute best that she possibly could.
The light sprinkling of the raindrops eventually turned into a harder, slightly pounding rain. This would have been a sign for most people to return to safety, seeing as it may turn into a much worse situation, such as a thunderstorm. Normally, however, Violet didn’t care about the weather. She’d stay outside of her shelter in almost any type of weather, and today was no different. Violet had nothing else to do to occupy herself, after all, being an eight-year-old girl in the woods with no one else she knew of that was around her age.
She girl actually had decided to begin skipping around in the rain, almost as if she were dancing. This didn’t last long, however, as she slipped and fell, landing on her backside. It didn’t faze Violet, though, and she just got back up, and looked around, trying to make sure no one was watching her, as she didn’t want to get embarrassed over her fall. She wasn’t normally the type to get embarrassed over things, but falling down in the rain while skipping about was a bit more reasonable for her to be embarrassed about, she thought.
When she looked around, however, she did see some movement in the woods. Not knowing what it was, Violet immediately sunk behind the trees on the edge of the clearing she’d been in and tried her best to stay hidden. Although, had anyone seen her before she made the decision to hide among the trees, they’d know exactly where she was. Was there really a point in concealing herself? She seemed to think so, for some reason.
