when you're a teen and as attractive as rafael was, it's hard to avoid taking that for advantage. those who resisted such acts were strong-minded and knew better than to fall so quickly. those who tripped under the pressure? they were weak. small minded. egotistical bastards who likely had money falling out of their pockets. sadly for rafael, he was one of those confident morons.
of course, he recovered from it. though he wasn't alone in his recovery; he had a friend. an ally. a partner in crime that almost made him better. of course as a teen he would believe attraction in the same gender was a flaw, was fake, so he bit his tongue and swung the other way.
he hit.
that's why karmen, his sweet little girl of seven, is alive to this day. she made him better. had him realize that making genuine connections and having peoples' backs was something worth needing. because raising a child is not an act one can do alone well. his parents didn't accept this lightly of course, making him start his new life as a single father at fifteen with rags.
