Retrospection [Dymas Day 3 vs Zombie]

"Snow angels are my spirit animal" -Dymas Nyx The snow around me would surely match the color of my eyes. Everything seemed to be decorated by one of the coldest capitol game makers and one with very little style at all. Whoever said that less was more came up with this arena. Whites and blues cover almost everything and the frigid temperatures just don't mix with someone whose body is made from salt water. This freezing cold nightmare just won't quit and the snow just seems to be never ending. I've said it once already and I don't mind saying it just one more time out of the two hundred to come. "Whoever likes snow is FUCKING crrr...rrazy!" My bottom lip chatters away, giving in to the lower body temperature that I've seemingly acquired over the last two days. Death is an icy man who no sooner would want to drag me to hell, but only leave me here to serve out my torturous last days. "What a bastard!" I cringe in this icy death trap and I am glad that I can feel the weight of the pack on my back for what its worth. The canteen inside, I focus on that. I focus on the melted snow inside, warmed by the hot springs just the other day. I wish I had drank it when it was warm. At least it would have given me some form of heat. Just another day or two in this arena, and I'll try to retrace my steps back to that hot spring and just soak in it, I don't care what happens to me after that. If I'm going to die, then I'll die happy and warm. "Happy and warm, Snow. You hear that? At least let me die by fire or something. This arena is as cold as you are." I snicker. I used to look forward to the games but the arenas were always so much nicer. The sunsets and the tropical temperatures. The fun venues for deaths but this was mental and physical torture. "Water... canteen." I mutter repetitively in hopes that it would draw my attention to something other than the fog in front of my face with every breath or the fact that my lips were cracked and dry. My skin itched like crazy. What I wouldn't give to jump into the salty water and snorkel. I can't exactly do that here, but the googles are the only thing that make this place feel more like home. I come to a halt when the light had finally gotten to the point that I couldn't see in front of myself anymore. I sought refuge in the first tree I had found in ages after walking where lumps of snow were. I had been stable for as long as possible, narrowly slipping several times but I held it off. I trudged through the snow like no other and as I set up camp for the night, praying for heat, I fell into an unease of sleep. Boots, heavy and dragging against crisp snow drew my attention first. The sun had barely arose yet the creature coming closer was barely visible. It's shadow was cast aside and the face started to show itself. The silhouette of the person it once belonged to was like a nightmare coming to life. The first games that I had ever really paid attention to became my waking nightmare. I knew this tribute like no other. Everyone of the tributes in that iconic games for myself was zipping through my mind until it completely stopped on that girl from district seven. That Eryn... "You've got to be kidding me? I was 12, Snow! I was 12 fucking years old. You're cunning, but how could you? Hello Eryn. Nice to meet you. I'm Dymas." I latch onto the knife and as I peered into the rotting flesh of the eye socket, I deemed that this was my first chance to kill something other than just the mutt from yesterday. This wouldn't last long at all.

Something feels wrong. No, something is wrong.

A foot lumbers forward, then another, again and again as the cycles drives the silhouette across the mountaintop. Thoughts (thoughts?) drift in and out - almost tangible, yet floating away from her (her?) grasp. What remains is the feelings of pain that spike up limbs, lacerations oozing a thick tar. But what's the worst is a searing pain around a neck, breathing labored by a blockage, part of a weapon sticking straight out.

But there's a single directive, a single face etched into the synapses: the figure is in front, a weapon in hand (hands? vision is foggy, vitreous humor clouded to near opacity). A grumbling erupts out of the body, shuffling towards its victim, towards its goal. An a need, a need for... for...

Pain flashes back upwards as something gouges into her back, and as if on instinct she reels, lumbering forward with limbs as heavy as boulders, fingers, frostbitten beyond repair, gripping onto stability before feet pivot and arms swing with a ferocity long rendered dormant. And as a jaw unhinges and a feral roar echoes across the mountains, a thought finally arrives. What she needed, what she lost, and what she now must obtain.

"Snow angels are my spirit animal" -Dymas Nyx Frosted fingertips and black oozing wounds decorate the girl in front of me who is literally now frozen in time. Her features still youthful as if there hadn't been a day past her death, but that is what worried me. No amount of pain would be able to keep her back nor make me feel victorious with just my single hit. This creature was soulless, heartless, bloodless and lifeless. I only could stare at the deep gash from within her back for all of a breath before she lunged back at me. I held my breath. I stared at this rotting corpse of flesh with the immediate thought that in games futures, my own body would be used to exact revenge against future tributes. A longing in my heart drew a sharp pain as well as my arm. I glimpse over to my arm. The atrocious site of this weapon piercing my upper arm sends jolts of fear shooting through my body. My lungs exhale an incredulous amount of pain in the form of angered grunts. Immediately, I help to rip out the tip and watch as the crimson pool saturates the ground drop by drop of my human properties. "You were tough then... you're still tough now, Eryn. I wish you could understand this but you are just a hollow corpse. A demon that deserves non of my time." I flex my arm. Pain soars up and down it like an electrical current. My eyes tear up with an automatic reflex to the uncomfortable wound. I blink and breath, focusing on the unstoppable muttation in front of me. I remembered seeing her on the television. I remembered how tough Eryn looked and how she moved with such ease and wielded her weapon precisely just like she'd done it for years. It was the simple fact that her voice and commands were powerful. Her many battles still reel in my head on repeat. I'm not even sure what makes her fighting that special. However, It was the most influential moment in my childhood because I had just turned twelve. I looked up to her strength. I looked up to this district seven girl. A boyhood crush that was a mistake days down the road when she was jutted through the throat. Don't forget me, Moms. I beg. I plea with the idea that they will come and rescue me because I've never fully learned how to be so alone like I am now. I am an orphan in this arena. "I am alone, but I am mighty." Crumbles my voice, eaten by the snow's crunch underfoot. My gait shifts toward Eryn and I replay her final fight in my head. I replay the reaping in my thoughts. I press play on the voice I remember that this warrior had. It's all gone now. This corpse will become still once more. How dare they bring back a face of a loved one to torture them again. "I'm sorry. I don't deal with demons, Snow. My faith believes in Angel's."

For a moment she sees: flashes to a life gone by, but the memory's too short, the image not vivid enough and she's left wanting more. Needing more. Needing to grab whatever that was and hold on to it until she can make herself whole again; but with another stab straight to the head it muddles those thoughts and she staggers back. Already she feels her lifeforce draining, whatever she once was disappearing back into the ether and the remnants build up and rip through her being.

Loss. Again. Placed in a world that's too new and too foreign, the only things that provides an ounce of comfort are the trees that sway back and forth, and the laugh of a girl, kind and strong. She can't remember a face, can't remember a name; but once upon a time, in a land far away, it was important. She holds onto it as she swings one more time.

Around them the snow falls, turning into droplets as they land. Like a rainstorm, but gentler.

"Snow angels are my spirit animal" -Dymas Nyx Faith is so hard to come by when your nothing but a little kid. The mind is hardly even developed enough to grasp any concept other than what was in the physical plain. Children don't understand anything growing up and they are told what to do and how to act. You are told what is right and what is wrong. I grew up only knowing my two moms loved each other and they loved me. I grew up with my best friend, with whom I had feelings for. I loved everyone for who they were and as I stand here, I realize just how much this world is turned for the worst. I feel like I have been living in a bubble of awesome. I was surrounded by kindness and unjust fates, but I lived in the motions that every day brought me. I didn't think anything about anything else. Until the reaping that day and everything became inconsequential. When I was twelve, I stood in line all innocent like with the salty sea hair and wet clothes from the morning swim. It seemed like an eternity, what seemed like days that I stood there awaiting my fate. I was thrust gently into the world that would eventually take me in like an orphan to a village. When I went home that night, I was captivated. I witnessed a boy volunteer for someone else because I thought that is what you do. I never knew the reason why he volunteered until later. Unlike him, I didn't have the honor of volunteering to save someone else's soul. Mine was ruptured. The bubble of awesome depleated with every step I moved away from my saftey net. As the view of my own home lingered in the foreground, I kept it close and to myself. I never really left home. I just used my mood to feed it to the others I met along the way. Much like Eryn did, I suppose. She had to have kept her home close to her heart until she realized just how deep she got herself into the arena. How the impervious worlds we used to live in, because we didn't know any better, suddenly disintegrated right before our eyes. "You aren't worth my time... but you have my sympathy. Eryn - find your happy place again. Don't let them bring you back to this daunting world of malicious inhabitants." I know that my words mean nothing to this rotting corpse brought back from the dead. This once feirce warrior fought back without any oppression. And I will face the wrath of what the capitol has turned us all into.
