Flashlight beams weaving around dead pines. Voices echoing through the dark. Several people shouting. One person crying. Leaves scattering in the wind, brushing over rotting logs and wishless dandelions. Somewhere, exposed to the bite of autumn’s nighttime wind, a body.

No one’s surprised. Dreamers have earned a reputation for getting themselves killed. But deep down, you feel like this time was different.

You were there that night.

Mr. Smith’s camping trips had become infamous over the years, a last ditch effort to bring the children of the technology district closer to nature. Years ago, the infamous Dreamers had trekked up the hill to his famous camping site, and dozens of students had done it since.

That night was different, though. Nine students with barely any ties to each other or their teacher went camping with Mr. Smith, who promised them a life-changing adventure. By the next morning, they would come to realize that he was right. It was life-changing. But not because of a simple camping trip.

Their lives changed because, that night, Mr. Smith’s life ended.

That’s right, y’all, I am finally rebooting the League of Dreamers plot with an all new generation of characters. As always, each character has a secret to keep from their peers. However, this generation of Dreamers will also have some additional secrets - each will know different things about what happened the night of Mr. Smith’s death, and each will be able to choose whether or not they share that information.

For this generation I really want to open applications up to be as creative as possible, so I’m asking for completely original characters. They can be characters that you already have in Three or new characters, whichever you prefer. The only guidelines I have are that the character is high school age and has some kind of secret they are keeping. Other than that, go wild! Current characters and open positions are listed below:

Character Name: Samson Byte (WIP on the name, might change)

Brief Character Synopsis: (Gonna do this from his perspective.)  You never wanted to talk to people, because you always thought it would be a chore.  Usually when you were faced with a public event, you scoffed, thinking that you were better than it.  Your parents told you that you needed to learn to be more social, but you simply looked at them and walked away.  You never wanted to admit it, but you didnt like your parents, or really anyone for that matter.  But that all changed when you met Mr. Smith.  A man that you secertly idolized because that was something that you thought you could do.  There were things that he showed you that you never thought existed, like the sound of twigs cracking from underneath your feet, or the sound the water makes when it trickles from a higher plane.  Nature was something that changed before your eyes, and you could not believe just how beautiful it was.  

And after your trip with Mr. Smith, you were never the same.  Your idealism melted away with each day that passed, and soon enough, you learned to hate life again.   You looked at things with horror instead of hope, you thought of the world as something that couldnt be saved, and you prayed that whoever saw what you saw would forgive you.  

There was no emotion left in you as you went home one day.  You walked through the door of your home to find your father passed out on the floor, his hand over his chest and his body devoid of color.  You stood there in both horror and admiration, because you wondered what it had felt like to die.  However, you more wondered what it felt like to have someone watch what it was like when you died.  Your mother found you, glossy eyed in the foyer as she discovered what you had walked in on.  And your life was never the same.

Wide eyes, trembling fingers and glass skin; you see reality through alternate lenses.

"I hate short names--"

You're a walking contradiction, a paradox speaking through corrosive breath and a honey tongue. There are roses in your hair, but weeds take root at your feet, coiling themselves around your ankles and constricting your throat. You can't breathe, and you decide you like it. Orange smoke in your lungs, dead leaves on your tongue, you're coughing black as you smile. Yellowed teeth and a rotten core, you wake up and try to ignore the new notches that mark the expanse of your glass skin. You bleed and say you're fine; a walking contradiction.

"--but just call me Sera for short."

You see reality through alternate lenses, but no one knows. Butterflies make their home on your skin, blue violets blossom from your chest and lightning flash before your eyes. You come home soaking wet and swear to yourself that you're dry. Despite what your mother tells you. You're so good at lying, swearing to her that you haven't been chasing ghosts and losing yourself to a storm. You see the world through a selection of lenses, reality observed through eyes that don't match with the mind they whisper to.

White teeth and a fresh core; your hands shake when you forget what it means to be lost. Your mind sings a song you've heard a thousand times (that you don't want to hear anymore), you blink and tears cut your cheeks. Rot spreads across your tongue and you whisper corrosive lies to your mother every time she looks at you with something you can only discern to be concern. "I'm okay." Boy troubles, girl troubles, secret troubles -- they blur into a smear.

You lose yourself.

Until they tear at your skin, pull at your mind like a needle against loose thread. You're a good liar, but secrets and half-truths are greedy creatures. They devour what they can from the inside out, tearing down your rustic lungs like ruined clockwork, burning a hole in your chest and leaving a residue of ash behind like gunpowder from a bullet wound. That camping trip never destroyed your desire for the outdoors, never killed the curiosity growing in your chest, but when you observe reality through its natural lens you find yourself stumbling, crying even, into the arms of a better place. Where there is fire in your hair and butterflies on your skin. Where you don't thrash and writhe in your sleep at the memory of it all.

There is a hole in your chest, you pretend it isn't there.

Character Name: Blaine Edwards

Brief Character Synopsis: Blaine's favorite thing living in District Three is that it is easy to get overlooked. He can effortlessly become lost in the sea of faces, and no one ever bothers to go diving into it. He prefers it that way, having no attachments to keep himself bound to anything or anyone. Many consider him indifferent, stone-hearted, and cold, but Blaine used to be warm and effervescent. The only emotion that still manages to haunt and permeate him is longing, a longing for the ways that life used to be. He carries this through him as he navigates the alleyways around the factories with relative ease. Flashes of his memory penetrate his vision, minds of scents and sound long forgotten, of a time that he tries to bury under the factory smog and engines.

He shakes his head as he maneuvers into an abandoned factory, hoping to escape from the sea of the District. He can still taste the salt and rust in his mouth as he finds the emergency shower, stepping over the others who have claimed this place as their own. The building itself hasn't been emptied, it is just that the equipment was no longer viable to justify the maintenance, and it's cheaper to move to an already existing building than to get new machines. It proves easy to swipe some essentials in Three, Blaine has noticed. All he has to do is follow the current, and the store owners don't even see that anything is gone until he is too far downstream. It is easy to not stay in one place either, he just follows the undercurrent from hostel to hostel never making friends along the way. It's easier this way, having no connections to hold him down. No one ever said that this life would be so silent and lonely, but the silence has become his companion.
