emma;
We are all enough. Those words do not mean not to strive for improvement; for as long as we live, we are changing and growing. It means - despite our imperfections, to trust we can be loved for who we are and love others in return.
We cannot always seek control; we figure things as best we can and learn to embrace chaos and uncertainty. And I hope I can teach you that - sometimes we can't find all the answers, and that's okay. There's nothing wrong in letting yourself be lost, in forgoing the path you walk and plunging into untamed land. Know that we support you, even when you do not find your way.
I hope that you never learn to be ashamed of your truest self, of that little voice inside that emerges when all else is quiet. I hope as you explore, you will come to understand the ways you think and the things that bring you joy - and that you hold on tight to those as the years try to wear you down.
That's a kind of strength, too. It's easy to get caught up in talking about strength in terms of discipline and rigidity, in being the unyielding dam that holds back a flood. But it takes a different sort of strength, I think, to find happiness in the cracks of a world so often determined to keep it from us.
There are days when we stare ahead and see only darkness, when the faith that everything will be all right sticks hollow in our throats. We step forward into that darkness anyway, and love is - being willing to brave the tempest alone, yet at the same time trusting we won't have to.
So, if the storm doesn't end - if the sun cannot shine tomorrow - perhaps our greatest act of defiance is to wear brightly colored ponchos, let it wash over us, and dance together in the rain.
