I suppose the reason that the younger tributes in the Games always seem to get to me emotionally when they're chosen, as well as when they die is because they remind me quite a bit of my dear friend Cinder who's only 12 years old. She's so small, fragile and precious that I don't know what I'd do if something bad happened to her. I suppose that's part of the reason that I refused to let her volunteer for me when I was reaped for the seventy-ninth Hunger Games. I wanted to protect her, and the only way to do that was by forcing her to stay behind, rather than taking my place like she had so badly had the desire to. I also feel that there's another reason I get so emotional about losing young tributes, which would be because, most of the time, they're quite innocent and were reaped with such a small chance of it happening.
That's why I was drawn to Ollie Brooke of District Ten. Her small frame and short stature signified to me that she was young, perhaps even the youngest there, appearing to be around the age of twelve. She reminded me all too much of Cinder. She was precious and fragile just like my dear friend, and I wasn't quite sure what to do. I wanted to help her survive, but I knew that if I did, it would only put me even more in line to be killed. It's hard sometimes, protecting the weak. They're often targeted and therefore difficult to protect. That, and I know that, should I become allies with her, I'd become much too attached to her and not allow myself to win in place of her if it came down to it. I suppose that's why I decided against asking her to ally with me and instead determined that I'd just try to befriend her. Having friends in the arena was much better than having enemies.
I approached the young girl known as Ollie, all the while with a small smile present on my face. When I went up to her, I noticed that she was struggling with something that she was working on. I wondered if there was a way I could help her. Therefore, I decided to speak up.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked of her. Hopefully, I could at least be of some assistance when it came to helping this girl survive longer than she would without any advice whatsoever.
