Name: Capricorn Rox
Age: 17
Gender: female
District: 9
***
Appearance:
I have always liked to imagine that I am a mermaid. A beautiful girl, determined in pursuing her goals and capable of loving someone like nobody else can. I think that there is some resemblance between me and this gorgeous fairy tale character. At least, my eyes are blue like the sea. I think that's what a mermaid's eyes should look like.
My hair is blond and long. I like to braid it when I have time. However, most of the time it is just messy. I am tall and obviously thin because the district I live in is not the most prosperous one in Panem. When I was little, I was playing with a kitchen knife and accidentally cut my hand. Now there is a small scar on my palm. I don't like showing it to anyone because I think it is embarrassing.
Personality:
I think being an orderly person makes life much easier and more productive. Every second of my life is precious and I don't want to waste it on some nonsense. I have a special happy timetable where I write everything I want to do every day:
Say a nice thing to every member of the family - 10 minutes every morning
Give hugs to my siblings - 10 minutes in the afternoon
Help my mother in the kitchen - one hour after dinner
Admire birds - five minutes after breakfast
etc.
I have plans for every minute of every day and it doesn't mean that I am a timetable-obsessed nerd who doesn't care about anyone. On the contrary, I ensure that I will make time for every person who needs it, including myself.
I enjoy studying but never get excellent grades because I have more important things to do than just homework. When I grow up, I want to work at an orphanage and bring joy to people who need to be loved. I babysit children for my friends often. Some people don't understand why I am so fond of kids, but maybe they just don't see that a child is not just a bundle of joy or a dirty diaper source. It is a human being, just like any grown up, but with less life experience and less understanding of how the world works - but this is what adults are there for - to help them integrate into society. If you are patient and eager to help, children will repay you by being adorable and loving. If they don't want to listen, you repeat it again and again without getting angry until they remember what you said. And it is important not to discuss the child's behaviour with their parents - you have to show the kids that you are a loyal and dependable person to be worthy of their trust.
Every time I spend a day with a child, I feel like I help them discover something new and it fascinates me. I also feel more confident about opening up to a kid than anyone my age because I am a little shy.
The one thing I don't like is nightmares. Every time I hear a scary story at school or at home, I know I am going to have a tough night. The worst part of bad dreams is that every time I try to scream, I can't. And it makes waking up harder. Creepy stories that trigger the nightmares might be different, but the dream is always the same: I am standing in the middle of a swamp, alone, with a bloody knife in my hand. When I try to move, my feet get stuck. And it doesn't stop until the morning.
History:
I've grown up in a weird family. For some reason, all the children in it were given names after astrological signs. It is fun to have a unique name though, so I'm not complaining. I have lots of cousins and we like to hang out with each other. I am especially fond of Saggitarius who made a necklace with my sign for me. Unlike my parents, I don't really believe in astrological mumbo-jumbo because it is just a bunch of confusing superstitions, but I think the necklace is pretty, so I like it and don't care what sign is on it.
I have loved hiding since I was a kid. When I was five, I always hid under the table, under everyone's beds, in the cupboard and other cosy places. I remember feeling warm and secure there. I often fell asleep in my little hideouts, so it made my parents worry about where I went. Every time they found me, I made promises not to scare them like that again... And did the same thing the next day.
On my seventh birthday, mommy said to me that I am grown up, so everything had to change. I decided that I had to be responsible and support my family in any way I could. Then I invented a happy timetable where I wrote down everything I had to do to make everybody around me feel better. It turned out to be easier to give enough attention to everyone that way. I never used timetables to organize my schoolwork though because it is not as important as making others happy.
