Other than a stubbed pinky toe as he ran away from the bloodied Cornucopia and twenty-three other tributes, Gabriel Alexander-Laws felt no new pains. Perhaps for now, he could breathe without the worry of almost two dozen other teenagers coming for his throat. Each second past, and the sounds of the hell behind him began to fade, and the noises of an unexplored, mysterious world began to rise. From a sprint to a run, a run to a jog, and a jog to a walk, he managed to catch his breath for a short time, chaos sparing him for a few short moments.
The Arena was quite pretty in his opinion, nice trees and welcoming glows, but after sixteen years of watching the Games, he knew better than to buy into the false sense of security. At the moment when one is least comfortable, they become most vulnerable to predators. For that reason, he remained weary, checking his back once or twice every minute just in case.
Gabriel prayed that for perhaps this night and this night only, he’d be able to sleep peacefully, without keeping both eyes restlessly open, but he didn’t get his hopes up. His best chance of seeing his nice pair of pajamas as the only red thing for the night was slim, but the last thing he wanted was blood, his blood.
Anything but blood.
A package that came in grey would soon suffice the desire for anything but blood. Inside lay a bag. Inside it was a medical kit, with a roll of bandages and some thread and a canteen for water (which he filled up rather quickly.) The third item came on it’s own. A sword, edges sharpened and ready for battle. He put the lined whip in the bag with the canteen and medical kit, and stuck the bag around his back.
For now, he hid. The lesser chance of being found, the lesser chance of death, and that was all Gabriel was able to afford in the fight for life.
