After his fight against the lizard creature, his mind has been fairly groggy. In all honesty, he is not quite sure what actually happened that day. If he tries to remember, his head begins to throb painfully, so he's just choosing to drop the thought and completely forget whatever happened to him. In regards to what he is doing now, he has left the dusty, but relatively cozy home, returning back into the woods. All the prepared, cooked food that he thought was in the home strangely vanished once his fight ended, leaving him disappointed that the only minuscule benefit from the fight that he had to partake in was the tiny amount of meat that he was able to harvest from the terrifying creature that he fought against.
Once again the prior night had revealed to him that another individual had died, a male from 12. He had expected the games to move quicker, for more deaths to occur, but perhaps the tributes are not as bloodthirsty this year. Another possible scenario is that maybe they're just missing their attacks extremely badly. Whatever the case, he is hoping for the deaths to pick up soon. Although he does not have the strength or the willpower to murder, it is in everyone's best interest to kill in order to survive. Let natural selection weed out the individuals participating in the long and drawn out fights, draining all of their energy. In contrast, he has seen no one and will continue to attempt to not run into other people. Like a vulture, he will scavenge whatever remains, hiding in plain sight until he's forced to reveal his cards.
Strangely, no fresh source of water has been found, even though he has explored a seemingly large chunk of the arena, leaving him quite thirsty. In retrospect, his head has been hurting literally all day, so maybe it isn't from his thinking, but in actuality, just because he hasn't had one sip of water for several days. Weighing the pros and cons of drinking the seemingly normal water that he found in the woods a day prior, he eventually decides that a quick death from potential poison within the water is better than a long, drawn-out death from dehydration. Taking small sips from the canteen, he eventually finishes it. While finding a freshwater source was priority number one before, it has definitely solidified its priority position. If he wants to find a water source, he has to continue searching to find it...
