Concise Bio from RATMAS 2017: 3rd of 5!
Harper Finn Escoto’s family never had much money. They got what they needed to survive from one day to the next, but little more. And it’s like that for most in District Eleven. However, if there’s one thing the Escoto family hasn’t lost, it’s the desire to be rich like the other Districts or the Capitol. It’s not a tangible goal, but for H.F, money is the only thing on his mind.
He and his brother spend most of their time trying to get as much loose change from the citizens of Eleven as possible. Rhys sells artwork, mostly junk. Part of H.F gets a little jealous when he sees lame artwork exchanged for precious pennies and desirable dollars.
Harper Finn takes a mental approach. Since the first time he listened to his old man’s stories, he was hooked on it like some kind of drug. He told H.F about stories of ghosts and witches, evil spirits and seances, and most importantly, fortune telling. He would tell stories to the kids at his school, and they would ask H.F to tell their fortunes.
That’s where he started his money-making moves. Revealing people’s ‘futures’ to them, fortune-telling was intriguing to people. Now obviously, all of the ‘readings’ Harper Finn did on the kids at school were fake, but he spoke with charisma, leaving the other boys and girls on the edge of their seat to learn more.
That’s how he got them to come back, time and time again.
With cash in his pocket, H.F took his job as a self-proclaimed psychic seriously. It was the only way to keep his family afloat and make them proud. Pride is what he lives and breathes.
And what’s Harper Finn’s reading on himself, you may ask? Fortune, happiness, and the luxuries he has dreamt of since he was a little boy.
