The instinct to follow the upbringing of Father is insatiable within this world of wonders. Back home rows upon rows of stolen secrets and taken property mark the walls of the legacy of my life. For safety, morals were made into ash from a fire for survival. With unblinking eyes and an unfaltering face, like a living shadow carrying out dark deeds I knew no limits. My thirst for reward and the ecstasy acquired by success drove me to become a slave to my temptations. As a master my desires rule over me still, their shackles sewn into the core of my being. The only reason my hands have held no treasures for the taking, is because they can't be taken. Soon this world will wither and a stage of suffering will be all that remains. There is no room for pointless objects when the crown jewel lies ready for acquisition from a victory in the coming war.
Meanwhile, I remain here in this realm of white and lavished layers of luxury. My mind is turned towards preparation for the coming storm soon to strike us all. In the days to come the people, the children, I share this space with will transform into tributes, random warriors of their Districts. Each will learn to live off their strengths and to contain the dangers of their limitations. Each will bloom into a rose ready with thorns sharp enough to shred souls in protection of life, their own life. Now is only the incubation, the first phase of growth towards a new version of ourselves. It is the perfect time to observe the various natures of every other budding flower beside me.
Swords screech as tributes and trainers trade strikes. Screens shift as questions to questions of survival are answered. A plethora of people to watch and to contemplate but my mind meanders else where, to a girl seated alone in the quiet of the mess hall. Her actions are unlike the others, a captivating sight. Perhaps it's this rising curiosity to know more that leads me to a seat just across from her and an apple from her tray crunching beneath my bite.
"I don't think I've ever had an apple that wasn't at least somewhat rotting." My eyes glint with truth as another bite of the forbidden fruit falls into my mouth. "This is quite the upgrade, huh?"<><><><><><><>
